brendan cooke: A social media experiment. Can you help me make this happen? The REAL Marriage of Figaro. - 03/27/10 12:38 PM
Many of my faithful blog followers know that in addition to my career in real estate, I am a professional opera singer.  This has led me to meet some really colorful characters in my day.  Everyone has a story, but there is none more amazing, devastating, encouraging, hopeful, touching and worth sharing, than the story of my dear friend, Jason Hardy.
I met Jason in 1998 when we began our graduate work together at the Peabody Conservatory, we were immediately "thick as thieves."  Jason spent much of his time pining away for his then girlfriend, Bevelyn...who also had quite a story. … (7 comments)

brendan cooke: Realtor.com enhanced listing package, any thoughts? - 12/16/09 03:57 PM
I have used REALTOR.COM's enhanced listing package for a couple of years to no avail.  I recently let the subscription lapse, as I couldn't justify the expense.  They presented to our office today, and I had a hard time sitting through the presentation, after I'd spent thousands of dollars for no results.

Has anyone out there in AR world had any good experience with REALTOR.COM enhanced listings that they'd be willing to share?  My broker and owner are considering doing a package for the office, and I have certainly shared my opinion, but thought I would check in to see … (6 comments)

brendan cooke: Baltimore, a great town to ride out the recession! 10 evenings out for $50! - 10/27/08 05:50 PM
The entertainment budget in our household (as well as many others I'm sure) has been slim as of late.  Thank goodness we live in Charm City!  This is the first of a series of posts which will document how easy it is to enjoy Baltimore on a budget.  I will chronicle ten outings, in and around Baltimore, and I am giving myself a whopping budget of fifty bucks!  Wish me luck!
My first event took me to Baltimore's Homeland neighborhood.  This fantastic North Baltimore neighborhood, close to Loyola University and the College of Notre Dame is home to some of Baltimore's … (1 comments)

brendan cooke: Silo Point, Baltimore's newest luxury condo...blowing my expectiations out of the water! - 10/21/08 11:24 AM
I had the opportunity yesterday to tour Turner Development's newest project in Baltimore's Locust Point neighborhood yesterday, and the day before.  I feel that I need to consult a thesaurus prior to making this post, as I don't think that my feeble vocabulary is stocked with enough superlatives to describe this truly amazing project.  I want to be clear, that I have been skeptical of this project since its inception, but am truly blown away by the progress, and with the finish line is sight, the end result.  I originally and naively thought that it would be crazy to build a … (0 comments)

brendan cooke: My favorite neighborhood - 08/15/08 10:41 AM
I realized a long time ago that I don't just sell houses, I sell neighborhoods. It's a good thing that I love my neighborhood! Here is some video footage that was shot on a lovely Spring day this year of the Mount Vernon Cultural District in Baltimore City. It is home to the Baltimore Opera Company, The Baltimore Symphony, The Peabody Conservatory, Walters Art Gallery, Center Stage and many more wonderful arts organizations, not to mention a ton of fabulous restaurants. I hope to get some more little video tours of my favorite place up and running soon!

brendan cooke: Peaks and Valleys - 04/12/08 11:45 AM
In my relatively short eight years in this business, I have experienced many peaks and valleys.  Months with eight settlements, followed by months with one, or none.  If there is one thing that I have learned, it is that the most important times seem to be the valleys.  If you put your nose to the grindstone in the tough times, you will reap the rewards.  It's also important, however, to remember that when you are in that month of eight closings, you need to be finding some way to spend some time focusing on the next couple of months, or these … (1 comments)

brendan cooke: Is the Open House dead? - 04/08/08 10:37 AM
I have written before regarding resisting the temptation to overlook tried and true techniques as we branch out as a field into the world of cyberspace.  I firmly believe that there is still great value in a good old fasioned yard sign.  What about the open house?  This past weekend, we had a cooperative brokers open.  Five brokerages worked together to just get some people through the doors in some available units in a downtown hi-rise.  We advertised pretty heavily in local papers, and on all of our websites.  We had ONE person come through.  Is the open house dead?  I … (6 comments)
