Lake Oconee Detail

Lake Oconee is a 19,000 acre lake with 375 miles of beautiful shoreline, making it the second largest lake in the state of Georgia. It is bordered by three counties, including Morgan, Greene, and Putnam Counties. Lake Oconee is formed by the Apalachee and Oconee Rivers, neither of which pass through industrial cities, making Lake Oconee an environmentally safe body of water.
Lake Oconee was built by Georgia Power in 1979 and its shoreline serves as a wildlife refuge. While enjoying an evening boat ride, it is not uncommon to see deer, geese, turkey, or squirrels roaming along the shoreline. Considered the best fishing lake in the southeast, Lake Oconee has more than 350 pounds of fish per acre. But wildlife and fishing are not the only activities you can enjoy.
	Boating, skiing, swimming, golf, and tennis are just a few activities that can be enjoyed in the area. A constant water level allows for permanent docks and year around boating. In addition, Lake Oconee is home to four country-club communities, each with its own Championship Golf Course designed by such greats as Jack Nicklaus and Bob Cupp. Each of the four gated communities also offer tennis with lighted courts. In addition, horseback riding, arena polo, and croquet can also be enjoyed in the area.
No matter what your lifestyle, there is a haven for you at Lake Oconee. You can choose one of the lavish gated communities or live in a smaller subdivision surrounding the lake. You may wish to buy a farm or acreage in Morgan County or purchase one of the beautiful pre-Civil War homes in Madison, the town that Sherman didn't burn! Regardless of your tastes, you will enjoy the serenity and relaxation that the Lake Oconee area has to offer. At the same time, you will not be far from major cities such as Atlanta, Conyers, Athens, and Augusta.
