Central Piedmont Community College is a part of the state's community college system. They say they were chosen as community college of the year in 2002 by the National Alliance of Business. Ok, I know I'm blogging a lot about sports, but this is big news. Julius Peppers, a defensive end - one of the big guys who tries to sack the other team's quarterback, has announced he wants to leave the Carolina Panthers next season. He has been at the Panthers for seven seasons and has shown tremendous athletecism. He is awesome. He actually went to UNC Chapel Hill, which isn't known as a football school. After a hiatus and a drop from number one in the sports polls, the Carolina Tar Heels decided to win one this week against Virginia Tech. It is a momentus occasion for a team who had all kinds of hopes for being one of the top teams in college basketball this year. The Panthers lost last week in one of the most dissapointing games I've seen. There is nothing worse than watching the fans walk out of a game early in the third quarter in a playoff game. Fitzgerald had a great night, which is unfortunate because he's about all they got. We just didn't cover him it seems. What was most dissapointing was that we were so dominant during the regular season and came close to beating the giants and then completely impoded. Not like you can get any tickets, but Davidson has been playing some really big games lately. They played Duke the other night and almost scared them. Before you shout at me, I'm not taking sides. But North Carolina schools are dominating the top five spots in the mens college basketball AP poll. The ACC is a tough conference and I'm sure we will see some of these teams lose and they will spread out, but right now North Carolina College Basketball is really on top of things. Bojangles Coliseum is hosting a Blues Festival aptly named the Charlotte Blues Festival. Performers include Mille Jackson, Calvin Richardson, Marvin Sease, Latimore, Roy C, Theodis Ealey. Charlotte has a great resource at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The J Murray Atkins library is a huge building which houses the university's main collection of books. It was named after the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Charlotte College, the name of the school before it became part of the University of North Carolina System. Charlotte NC is going to wake up on Saturday. The Panthers are going to be playing the Cardinals in the first round of the real playoffs. It's going to be a fun game because we beat the Cardinals last time they visited Panther's stadium in uptown Charlotte earlier this season. The score was 27 - 23.
