nc real estate agent: Photos for your myspace - 03/14/09 10:54 PM
The charlotte public library is holding an event for people to come get their myspace photos done. There's nothing worse than having your high school yearbook photo as your myspace photo.
I'm sure they'll have someone come up with something that is more intersesting than just a well lit shot.
The event is at Imaginon: The Joe and Jean Martin Center, which is downtown and frequently has events for kids.
It is one of the events I found on the city's website. It may seem like a lost cause to look on the city's websites for cool things to do, but … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: St. Patricks Day Parade set for next week - 03/07/09 11:49 PM
Everyone better figure out what shade of green they are going to be wearing next week. The Charlotte North Carolina St. Patrick's day parade will be held on March 14. It starts at 10 am, which is a really early start, if you ask me. The parade will be full of bands and drill teams and other cool people.  It will also feature the superintendant of schools as the Grand Marshall, which is kind of a downer.  When I think of St. Patrick, I really don't want to be thinking about education. But I'm sure he's swell guy and will marshall … (6 comments)

nc real estate agent: Rowan Cabarrus Community College makes a new home - 03/07/09 11:41 PM
The Rowan Cabarrus Community College will make a new home in Kannapolis, which is north of Charlotte NC Real Estate. Rowan and Cabarrus Counties are both north of Charlotte, but they are home to many people who commute to the city. It is only about an hour to Salisbury, which is the county seat of Rowan County.
Many people have settled into Salisbury Real estate in order to commute to Charlotte, especially if they work downtown because of the ease of access to freeways. However, those are a rare breed, without traffic, it is about an hour and fifteen minute commute … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Andy Worhol in Charlotte - 02/21/09 11:46 PM
One of Andy Worhol's last works is being shown at the Mint Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte NC until May.
He created the exhibition, called Cowboys and Indians, in 1986.
Worhol was a sometime controversial artist who featured everyday items in his art. He got involved with a bunch of rock bands and put his stamp on American popular culture.
Perhaps after modeling a lot of his art after everyday objects in American life, Worhol may have turned his attention to history for inspiration. One of his works from this collection is a modified portrait of Geronimo. He also depicts … (2 comments)

nc real estate agent: Elton John and Billy Joel face to face in Charlotte - 02/21/09 11:24 PM
March 7 will see one of the biggest shows in Charlotte for a while. Elton John and Billy Joel will play in the Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
Apparently, each one of them plays a set, then they join together and sing duets. They pick a variety of rock and roll songs, the event website says.
I wonder if they have to flip a coin to see who goes first. Going first is a bad thing in showbusiness I guess. But whoever goes first isn't the headliner. Maybe these two have been entertaining for so long that they've mellowed out and decided that … (2 comments)

nc real estate agent: Mountains vs. the shore from Charlotte - 02/14/09 09:23 PM
Oh dear, how to decide.
Charlotte is right in the middle of North Carolina, from east to west. That makes it really easy to get to the beaches of North or South Carolina or to the Appalachian mountains.
Which is better.
It's a good problem to have to ask that question. In terms of drive time, it is much quicker to get to the mountains from Charlotte. It is only about two hours to Asheville. It can be done mostly on interstates or divided highways.
However, the drive to Wilmington is four hours and much more difficult. It follows roads which … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Ikea in Charlotte NC - 02/14/09 08:17 PM
The furniture manufacturer IKEA is openining one of its stores in the Charlotte NC Area. The store is 350,000 square feet. The Charlotte Business journal says that they will decorate a corner of uptown Charlotte with a fully furninshed room. I guess, so people can relax there on their walk home.
The store is one of the largest stores that the chain operates. It will have several model homes inside the store and a ton of floor space to show off all of their furniture sets. They are known for inexpensive furniture that is assembled by the consumer at home. There … (1 comments)

nc real estate agent: City Tavern in Charlotte NC - 02/07/09 11:17 PM
In addition to awesome ice cream joints, I visited one of the many restaurants in Stonecrest, a shopping center in the Ballantyne neighborhood in Charlotte NC.
City Tavern has several locations around North Carolina. One is in Wilmington, NC, another is at Lake Wylie, and still another is in uptown Charlotte.
It is what they call an upscale casual dining restaurant. They actually have a ton of seafood on the menu, which is what I was thinking about getting. I was planning an offseason trip to the Wilmington beaches that got interrupted. Seafood in Charlotte would have to suffice. Sometimes, you … (4 comments)

nc real estate agent: Stone Crest Shopping Center in Charlotte NC - 02/07/09 10:58 PM
Right in the middle of Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC real estate there is a shopping center that has sprung up with the advent of the new outer belt highway. Stonecrest took advantage of one of the first legs of the outer belt and brings some upscale shops to South Charlotte and especially to the ballantyne and piper glen areas.
I went there tonight not knowing what to expect, what with the economy and all and came to find it packed. You tell me what that means about the state of the economy or how it affects south Charlotte.
Actually I know … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Tobacco ban in charlotte nc? - 01/31/09 11:37 PM
In a sign of changing times, and even more importantly, a changing economy, North Carolina is considering a statewide ban on smoking in restaurants and bars. That is big news because of the economic history of the state.
Tobacco played a huge role in the economic development of North Carolina and the city of Charlotte. It was a huge cash crop and an important export in the colonial times.
North Carolina was home to some of the largest tobacco companies, and a few years ago, you could even tour cigarette manufacturing facilities in the Charlotte area.
These days, it seems, Charlotte … (1 comments)

nc real estate agent: The Charlotte Business Journal - 01/31/09 11:17 PM
Charlotte also has a busines publication in addtion to the regular Charlotte Observer Newspaper. It focuses, as its name suggests, on business news and probably goes into more detail and depth than the Charlotte Observer does. Or at least it thinks it does.
The Charlotte Observer also has a business department and business reporters, but the business journal is meant to serve a certain type of reader that wants to see what is going on in the community.
There are a bunch of different journals for different cities.
It's an interesting read and a valuable tool for a real estate agent … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: College hoops get hot in North Carolina - 01/31/09 10:43 PM
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University squared off in Raleigh today. The Tar Heels beat State by about 20 points. Things got heated in the last few seconds when State's Ben McCauley hit the Heel's Mike Copeland with a really hard foul with 1.9 seconds left in the game. Copeland got right back up and let McCauley know that he was really angry about it.
They both got a technical foul out of the deal. But Roy Williams, Chapel Hill's coach, sent Copeland to the locker room for the rest of the game because … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra - 01/31/09 10:27 PM
The Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra is coming to Charlotte. Dublin, Ireland that is. A cursory internet search turned up some interesting information. The Dublin Orchestra is not like the London Philharmonic or the Berlin Philharmonic, it disbanded after World War II and is finally making a comeback.
The current director is taking the orchestra on its first american tour. It is a great opportunity to see a world class orchestra play music. I don't want to take away from the Charlotte Symphony, but I don't they are competing on the same level. I think the Dublin Philharmonic is competing with the London … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Charlotte Restaurant Week - 01/24/09 10:13 PM

Charlotte North Carolina is hosting a culinary extravaganza called Charlotte Restaurant Week.  Starting this week, you can go to one of the participating restaurants, which include some of Charlotte' s finest spots and dine in style on the cheap.
Each restaurant that participates - sorry folks Arby's isn't on the list - offers up a three course, prix fixe meal for $30. The idea is to get people out into the city trying new restaurants. Restauranteurs want you to get hooked on their food - and who can blame them.
Some of the restaurants on the list include some at South Park, … (5 comments)

nc real estate agent: Things to do when there is snow in Charlotte, NC - 01/24/09 09:08 PM
We had a big snow this week. There were a few inches across most of the state. Now, this may confuse some of our friends to the north, but Charlotte, and North Carolina in general panics when they hear that snow is coming.
It's just what happens. The reason is that we just don't get that much snow here, because it isn't normally that cold. Do you hear that, anyone living in an area with a continuous blanket of winter snow?
Usually before a snow, everyone goes to the local grocery store and buys up all of the bread and milk. … (1 comments)

nc real estate agent: Parks in Charlotte NC - 01/17/09 11:08 PM
Charlotte is one of the greenest cities you might find. I'm not talking about in terms of envirnmental friendliness, although it is no slouch, I mean in terms of the foliage.
If you ever fly into Charlotte, NC, you might wonder where the city is. The buildings in uptown Charlotte stick out like a sore thumb, but the rest of the city looks like it is constructed under the shade of a billion trees. That's just the way the city was built. The suburban nature of the city means that the city has a ton of open green space. Green is … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Community College in Charlotte NC - 01/17/09 11:01 PM
Central Piedmont Community College is a part of the state's community college system. They say they were chosen as community college of the year in 2002 by the National Alliance of Business. It's a two year school that offers associate degrees, as well as classes for just about anyone who is interested in just about any subject. There are tons of classes to choose from in tons of subjects at tons of different skill levels.
The college started in 1963 as the Mecklenburg College and the Central Industrial Education Center. After the two merged, it became a community college and took … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: The Panthers lost in Charlotte NC - 01/17/09 09:34 PM
The Panthers lost last week in one of the most dissapointing games I've seen. There is nothing worse than watching the fans walk out of a game early in the third quarter in a playoff game.  Fitzgerald had a great night, which is unfortunate because he's about all they got.  We just didn't cover him it seems.
What was most dissapointing was that we were so dominant during the regular season and came close to beating the giants and then completely impoded. It really makes me think of the Carolina Tar Heel's loss in the semifinals in March last year. It's … (0 comments)

nc real estate agent: Davidson's basketball season - 01/09/09 04:45 PM
Not like you can get any tickets, but Davidson has been playing some really big games lately. They played Duke the other night and almost scared them.  Davidson isn't ranked in the top 25 yet this year, but they really have a powerful weapon with Stephen Curry.  I've written about him before. He is the son of Dell Curry, who was one of the original Charlotte Hornets, before they moved to New Orleans. Dell scored more than 10,000 point I thought I heard them say on the broadcast.  He was an amazing shooter, I remember that.  He was part of the … (4 comments)

nc real estate agent: North Carolina Schools at the top of NCAA - 01/09/09 04:34 PM
Before you shout at me, I'm not taking sides.  But North Carolina schools are dominating the top five spots in the mens college basketball AP poll.  The ACC is a tough conference and I'm sure we will see some of these teams lose and they will spread out, but right now North Carolina College Basketball is really on top of things.
Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest are all at the top of the heap. Duke is 2th, UNC is 3th and Wake is 4th. I bet every bar in Charlotte is going to be jammed with alumi events for the … (1 comments)
