Michael Phelps Olympic Gold Metal Swimmer & Home Staging, What's the connection?

For the last week the World has been focused on the US men's Olympic swimming icon Michael Phelps and his stunning ability to win all the gold metals and break all past recorders in the races he has swam in so far.

He has the chance to win 7 Gold metals in the 2008 Olympics alone, and he has already became the all time individual Gold metal winner with 2 more events still to come.

Well when I was watching the news this morning an interesting point came up and I thought about home Staging for some reason...

The point was that every 4 years when the Olympics come around the Swimming team captures the attention of the world for about a week during competition then kind of fades away. There maybe a cereal box with the Gold metal winners, or a commercial or 2 with a swimmer in it but that;s it.

The news ankerman ''Tiki Barber'' for the ''Today Show'' then asked what do you think will happen this year after all the exposer Michael Phelps has brought to the swimming team? She answered I believe you will see a big boom in people wanting to join swimming teams, or joining swimming classes from all the exposer. Her prediction was correct as they interviewed a youth swimming team coach that said there is already a 11% boost in class attendance since the Olympic swimming team has been featured.

This is what I believe is happening to the Staging industry and it's big boom were having from the exposer HGTV, DIY, BRAVO, & A&E is bringing to the flipping & Staging industry. The only reservation I have is I think the Boom is to big these TV shows are bringing and you have people going out buying homes to flip that don't have a clue what they are doing... But it looked so easy on TV and those people made money! Or I moved a few times and people say they love my style, so I believe I will be a good Stager,and off they go Starting yet another Staging business not having a clue what it takes and the hard wok involved!

Anyway what I I'm getting at is there has been great swimmers even before Michael Phelps, and there have been great Stagers like us here who have been Staging before all these TV shows appeared.

My advice to the folks who are selling their home in this buyers market is... I'm sitting at my desk at the office and just kind of drifted off and started thinking of past jobs I had. I was remembering back when I was a stock boy for Jenny Craig back in high school, to working as a construction worker out in the cold in the winter months here in Chicago.

I did these jobs because I had to in order to make money to live. I never even liked those jobs to much; but did them to the best of my ability.

I was always taught if it's worth doing; it's worth doing right.

As I sit here tonight after having to go buy some items for a vacant house we bid on and got; I come to realise I really truly Love my job.

I Love helping people; and Home Stagers really do help those in need of assistance to let go of the past and help them look forward to the future. We just don't go in like a machine and start reorganising the clients home. We talk with them; explain what we need to do to get them and their home in the best possible showing condition so it sells in this down market.

You can't just sit here on AR and wait for them to come....

I just read a blog that Bevin did on Realtor shows and it gave me a picture that I hope your not painting.

First off I would like to make it clear I love coming to AR to read some great blogs and getting some great pointers.

BUT, you can't reliy Souly on AR and your website or Blogges to generate the majority of your business. You must get out and hit the ad campaign you set up for your company.

You can do this by:

Sending out newsletters
putting together a flyer hand out and pass them out either by looking on the MLS for homes for sale in your target area and placing them on the door knobs or
Going to every Real Estate company in your area and hand them out with maybe a bag of jellybeans
Giving presentation on Staging at your local library or park district
Attending your local Chamber of commence functions
Joining business groups

There is a ton of other ways to get your name out there. You just can't expect people to find you, YOU must find them!

I think you get out of it, what you put into it... no matter what business you choose!

I hope this gives you a boost of confidence to get out there and show what you have to offer, because you do have a lot to offer and having the Internet is a great way to network, but in all reality it has only got us a hand full of clients.

Am I wrong about this? I would like to know if you believe the same as I do?

(another great idea and what we do is hire a kid from the neighborhood to pass out your flyers on the homes they see with for sale signs on them, it saves us gas money & the money we pay the kids can be written off as business expenditures:)

I was just watching the news here in Chicago and one of the opening story's was how the housing market has dropped over 34% since a year ago.

Now I ask when you hear these numbers and then see the overwhelming proof that Staging homes help sell homes faster why not give us a chance to help turn these numbers around, it can't get much worse then it is now!

The investment in Home Staging is far far less then having to keep reducing your homes asking price.

I know I posted about the importance of joining your Local Chamber of commence before, but I just wanted to refresh it again.

Last year we at All in One Staging & Redesign inc joined our Local Chamber of commerce which is

We are based out of Bartlett IL. We serve the north west suburbs of Chicago IL and the surrounding areas.

Here in the Midwest Home Staging & Redesigning has really been growing with the overwhelming evidence that Staging Homes = Selling Homes!

Some of our best Leads came from the participation in all the great functions the Chamber of Commence holds.

For example Bartlett's Chamber holds gatherings to invite other Chambers in the area to participate in, which means more exposure for us to Realtors in our surrounding area.

I felt I would post this for those who think that because I'M in here, I'm not making money out there....

Hello fellow AR members, My name is Brian Bloom I'm the co-owner of All In One Staging & Redesign inc.

My job title is Project Manager & day to day operations. We meaning Sandra Montemayor ASP IAHSP the other owner and I meet about 5 years ago when I purchased a investment property out west and her cousin was the Realtor.

I have 2 other investment properties that I rent out (they are 3 flats). Anyway I was talking to her Realtor about 2 of my apartments at the time were simply not getting rented because back then so many people were buying homes rather then renting. She told me about Sandy who she had fluffed her apartment building to make it more desirable for the people who were interested in renting them, I had NO CLUE what she was talking about (fluff) she said it's like getting the home in showing condition to make it look it's best like a model home.

I asked if I could meet her and that's in short how we meet. SO she came in and had me paint and upgrade the dated appliances put some furniture in that I had in storage and a week later both were rented.

Well I have Relatives and friends who own Mortgage companies, title companies, Real Estate companies, and a Bank so I thought this worked so well for me I would let them know.

They have heard about "Staging" but never used it, I convinced them it would work great for them and offered to work with Sandy if they let us Stage their properties, again I had no Idea back the it was called Staging, we just called it getting the home in showing condition. So they agreed to let us work for them to see how well it worked, plus the extra money came in handy, I was a union foreman and was off 3 months of the year because here in the Midwest construction outside stops to the weather permits.

Well Sandy and I were doing just a couple jobs a month at first for them, Making plenty of mistakes on the way (you have to remember we never took a class for this, we just were helping out family members and not offering our services to anyone else.

We started getting pretty good at getting the homes in showing condition and were now getting more and more work to do for them, plus both of us still had full time well paying jobs. We started noticing what we were doing was being shown on HGTV and other channels so we watched almost every episode to get more ideas. This went on for 3 years before Sandra and I made the choice to go to one of the Staging classes that were now being offered in our area.

We decided Sandra would attend the class and see if this is something we would consider doing full time. We both agreed after she finished and told me the class was pretty much what we have been doing for all this time now, and we made the choice to open our own small business up to other folks besides our family's businesses.

At first they were a bit disappointed because we were going to have to charge them our rate rather then them paying us the rate they were, but it worked out well in the end because we got insured and licenced on our own and we now had to pay for being insured and licensed and now accredited.

So this in short brings us to today, Today 90% of our business is doing consultations, for us we make more money doing 2 or 3 consultations a day and picking up the upgrading contracts in which we work with 3 different contractors all very reasonably priced to do the work for them if they don't have the time to paint ect.

I have 2 other Stagers that work with us in the day time, and when Sandy gets off work, yes she still holds down a full time job, then either I or one of the other Stagers accompanies her with the last consultation of the day which is booked no later then 7pm (we always send 2 people for every consultation for safety reasons).

So yes it is possible to make money being in here, if you own the company! I do accompany Sandra on Staging presentations we do for Realtors, and I go to the job sites we contracted out to check on the workers.

So as you can see this just didn't happen over night, I put my time in trying to Stage in the dark because the homes electric was turned off on a vacant, and finding things I really didn't want to find during occupied consultations.

This is something we have loved for years now. We are not newbies, or Hobby Stagers. I just spend a lot of my time with my computer since I got the air card so I can take my laptop anywhere I go, and usually do. I have went as far as installing computer docks in my new Land rover and Tahoe. So I can have AR running in the back ground as I'm doing my invoices.

Wide Angle lense for your camera....

Did you ever wonder if you could turn your digital camera into a wide angle camera?

Well the answer is YES!

From what I understand, all you have to do is attach the lense to your camera using a magnetic strip that is provided to the lense of your camera to have a superior Wide Angle picture.

Canon powershot SD 750 ELPH ip 1800 series w/ photostitch?

Does anyone have any input on the new canon power shot SD 750 digital elph with the photostitch?

I bought one a couple weeks ago and love it, I'm still learning all the settings and just wondering if anyone knows the best setting for indoor shots?

I wanted the v705 but could not find one in time, my last camera got crushes and I needed a camera for my Staging shots like the wide angle of the v705 and was hoping the photo stitch would do some what the same, but I'm not sure what settings I should have it on?

Any feedback would be great.
