blogging: Goal setting - More fun than a poke in the eye, just barely. - 01/06/10 08:27 PM
One of the hardest things for me to do is goal setting. Something about it always feels contrived or insincere. I always agonize over what to write down and if there's a chance someone else might see it, I feel it has to be profound and insightful. Well, I've decided to approach it the way I do most things, head on. So in my determination to become better at expressing my goals and stating objectives, I decided I would do some research and write a blog about it. First I wanted to find a definition of a goal that made sense

blogging: How to link icons to your profile - 10/11/09 10:00 PM
In a recentl blog post I offered up some social media icons for use that were Active Rain themed. There were some people who weren't quite sure how to use them. So here's a quick tutorial. First you need to download the images to your computer. Right click on the icon that you want and click save image as. Name it something you will remember and save it somewhere you can find it. (I like using the desktop as a temporary place for images I'm going to work with quickly). Next you will need to link the icon. AR makes this

blogging: If you want new clients, give this a try. - 10/08/09 07:09 PM
I took two new listings this week from brand new clients. I always like to ask how they found me and why they decided to go with me vs. any of the other thousands of real estate agents active in Boise, Idaho? In doing so I've discovered, re-discovered, and confirmed the largest return on investment of all the things I do to generate new clients. The answer to the first part of the question is somewhat predictable, they found me on the internet, usually Google. That's to be expected, it means what I'm doing online with my websites and Active Rain

blogging: There's no point reinventing the wheel - 06/10/09 05:15 PM
There is a great mix of people here on Active Rain. The diversity of industry professionals old and new, successful and soon to be, and just about everything in between. If you're looking for ways to grow your business using AR or just about any other social media you can find success easily by modeling (keep in mind modeling doesn't mean plagiarizing. You should model your posts and they type of content you produce after what others are doing that generates business.) those at the top of their game here on AR. Take a look at the state of Texas for

blogging: Please forgive my abrubt retort... - 06/01/09 04:08 PM
I don't know about you but some of the people I enjoy interacting with most here on AR are the people I've had the rockiest starts with. Usually a couple heated exchanges and some good debate produces some great conversations down the road. I try to always be objective (key word being try, I have weak moments) in stating my opposition to their point of view. I do know for a fact that sometimes I come off as aggressive in nature and it's really only because I'm passionate about my views and I have a lot of respect for people who

blogging: Blog subscriptions - How long do you keep someone who's not posting? - 05/25/09 11:47 AM
The longer I'm on AR the longer my blog subscription list gets. I like seeing those people who I read consistently jump toward the top so I know to click on them and get the latest installment. But what do you do with the lost souls dragging along the bottom of the list who have gone without posting for so long you start to wonder when do you un-subscribe to their blog? Are they really gone for good? Who knows, I can't begin to imagine how many bright stars have burnt out on the rain. I think I have people on

blogging: Points mean nothing if you don't have the content to back them. - 05/24/09 06:55 PM
Content is king. Blogging here at AR is so much fun it can be hard to remember that. It's already been determined that the points are of value to rainers but they mean nothing if someone finds their way to your blog and it's filled with fluff, political rants, re-blogs from people with more original ideas and content in their little finger than you can come up with in the whole of your being. Remember why a user may happen upon Active Rain in the first place, real estate and topics and discussions related to it. There are some great members

blogging: Who are some of your favorite AR Bloggers? (A list of famous, infamous and fun to read little known bloggers) - 04/10/09 06:55 PM
Okay, we see the big boys and girls on the featured pages all the time. They're the "MEGA" contributors to AR what they write we all like to read. They're well known and well respected for their talents. I've been fortuante enough to grace the featured pages twice but these people have been there hundereds of times. What I wanted to do is compile a list of little known favorites of ours. The people yet to hit the big time here on AR. I know it's not proper to post links in the commnets section but for this post I'll make

blogging: The Power Of the AR Blog - How I ended up on the news. - 03/04/09 09:11 AM
Anyone doubting the power of the AR blog can't deny this. I wrote this little blog in September "Why Are We Paying For An Empty Mansion" about the governor taking a stipend for because he didn't want to live in the governor's mansion. Well about a month ago I was contacted by the Associated Press who found my blog and wanted a quote. I didn't think much of it and asked that he email me the article if it was published. Yesterday I got a call from Channel 2 news asking about the article that had been published in the San
