highlands ranch: Day 2 of Spring Snow Storm w/ pics (feels like day 28) - 04/18/09 02:23 PM
This is my diary entry for day 28 of being trapped inside because of the snow storm. Ok, kidding. It's only day 2. It's winter wonderland all over again!And for a status report - it's still snowing, wet heavy snow. I have to find a yard stick to give you exact measurement of amount of snow in our yard - the 12" ruler isn't cutting it any more. Estimating about 16". Oh and did I mention - it's still snowing.

This is the biggest snow storm we have had this (winter) season. This morning the snow was coming down slightly. A few hours later we have 10" of snow - and it's still snowing - A LOT. Supposed to last until tomorrow - Great! I just finished shoveling our and our neighbors driveway (I needed the exercise). The snow is really wet and heavy. I am ready for the beach season LOL. Oh, well. Enjoy some snowy "springy" photos from Highlands Ranch Colorado.

Highlands Ranch CO Trails - Winter Closures
Starting January 1st 2009 the Wildcat Mountain trail system in Highlands Ranch CO - which by the way is a great trail system - will be closed for the winter, until March 28th 2009. Over 400 elk live in the land around the trail systems and in the Backcountry Wilderness Area. The trail system closes each winter to let the elk get through the winter with least amount of human interaction possible. There are a number of coyotes living in Highlands Ranch. Occasionally you can see them running across an open field or in the open spaces that surround Highlands Ranch. Today Brian spotted this hungry guy about 2 pm right next to Southridge Rec. Center in Highlands Ranch. He even "jogged" across a recently finished playground area. The coyotes must be hungry and they are coming closer to homes. You can see this fellow is standing right next to some houses. Today was the first day of the two-day Third World Market at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Littleton/Highlands Ranch. We headed there shortly after it opened to beat the crowd. The event is very popular. There were beautiful and unique items for around the world including from Haiti, Africa, Central and South America. There were also some locally made items. We saw beautiful, intricate hand made jewerly, clothing items and wood carvings. There were tasty cookies, colorful quilts, large pinatas and so, so much more.

Highlands Ranch CO Events - Trick or Treat Street Tonight we went to a Trick or Treat Street at a nearby Rock Canoyn High School in Highlands Ranch CO. This fun free event was put together by the High School and there were many fun games and prices in store. All the neighborhood kids went too! Call it a dress rehersal for tomorrow night if you will. Our son and his friends enjoyed the event. They all dressed up and went from station to station trying their luck at bowling, fishing, and musical chairs. Living in Highlands Ranch has it perks. I often think how lucky I am to be living in such great community and surrounded by natural beauty. I get to live near trails and parks, and enjoy many, many amenities that Highlands Ranch Community has to offer.I am only minutes away from some great trails that connect Highlands Ranch - starting near Rock Canyon High School and Rocky Heights Middle School - to Daniels Gate and Castle Pines North.
