Concerned about the Current Water Crisis

There are a lot more organizations than you might think who have a vested interest in the current Georgia watershed crisis. Local Trout Unlimited Chapter (Upper Chattahoochee Chapter, #436 - Roswell, Georgia) members have put in a lot of time and hard work in local fisheries and stream restoration on many of the very waters you are using. Even if you are not a member, you can support this not for profit organization with a donation that will net you a gift for yourself or for one of your special clients.

Trout Unlimited Today

Today Trout Unlimited is a national organization with more than 150,000 volunteers organized into about 400 chapters from Maine to Montana to Alaska. This dedicated grassroots army is matched by a respected staff of lawyers, policy experts and scientists, who work out of more than 30 offices nationwide. These conservation professionals ensure that TU is at the forefront of fisheries restoration work at the local, state and national levels.

The Gift

Volunteer some time or make a donation and give the gift that keeps on giving. Worst case, you might make some new friends, and surely benefit from a cleaner watershed.

When it Rains it Pours

Obviously very old, yet very brilliant cliché, especially during this very scary Georgia drought condition. It is truly amazing the magnitude of what will be impacted by this situation. I am fortunate to be a part time guide/instructor at a North Georgia Outfitter, whose very livelihood is dependent upon rainfall. On Monday and Tuesday of this week the Guide staff found themselves knee deep in the River rejoicing during the two day rainfall. It reminded me of my childhood when I ran outdoors in my swim trunks and laughed while running through curb filled puddles. It made the trout happy too as they became very aggressive at the new found food source pouring into the river. Conditions are good there as water temps are perfect for the metabolism of the finned creature. The River rose approximately three inches during that period, allowing the trout to leap without hitting rock upon re-entry. Now is the time to head north for this experience which could become fewer and farther between. It truly is a precious recourse!

Once dialed in the new student could visit River Through Atlanta Guide Service, for a guided trout fishing trip through seemingly remote sections along the Chattahoochee River just inside or just outside the city of Atlanta! Real Estate Professionals Fish Too

Shocking? Maybe to some, as I have often made the comment that the two didn't seem to mix like oil and water. More often than not, I find such things being revealed in my Fly Fishing journey. I am fortunate to be involved with both as well, as my support role at Richterkessing Inc., is flexible enough to fulfill my passion for Fly Fishing as a Guide and Instructor. Building lasting relationships at both professions is crucial to remain in the game at a high level. So there I am at the Outfitters, usually the first, preparing equipment in anticipation of my client's arrival. It is a gorgeous October morning, light rain in the forecast, comfortable temperatures. We will be fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout in North Georgia on a beautiful stretch of river North of Clarkesville. When everyone arrives, we divvy up the group between guides and select a beat on the river. My clients are eager to learn as they are relatively new to the sport, and it reminds me of the beginning of my journey. As the morning passes and new skills are developed, and relationships are built, it happens, the first trout of the day. I have seen it a multitude of times and never get tired of it! Joy, laughter, pride, a gamut of emotion that only comes from Fly Fishing. Amazingly all that emotion opens up vibrant verbal exchange that seemingly ties each of us together as long time friends. As the day progresses and more trout are caught, I find from our lively "River Banter" that I am supporting the group's leader who is a Chairman with a local Chamber of Commerce. My clients, his clients, are Real Estate professionals, and represent one of the largest Real Estate Development companies in North Georgia and the other is in Commercial Real Estate! Shocking no more!

Proof again that once the waders are pulled on, the globe shrinks and everyone is on the same playing field!
