4h: 4H Members Test Their Horse Knowledge - 03/22/12 08:09 AM
The past weekend I had the pleasure of volunteering at 4H Regional Hippology Competition held in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, which was in my back yard.
The competition consisted of 2 parts:
50 multiple choice questions and 10-12 stations to identify different horsey items
The members were divided into 3 divisions:
Novice Juniors Seniors
Each member competed as individuals and on teams of 3-4 members. A total of approximately 100 members from the southeastern region of Pennsylvania competed.

4h: 4H Is Not Just for Agriculture - 10/08/11 10:10 AM
4H is a wonderful organization for youth. This organization has projects not only in agriculture (which it is well known for), but also in other areas such as sewing, crafts, leather crafting, wood working, shooting sports, cooking, etc. Whatever the area of interest, there is most likely a project for it.
4H teaches youth not only about their project, but also about leadership skills, community service, working with others, organizational skills, and so much more. The 4H leaders are there to teach and guide the members.
4H works in conjunction with Penn State and the local Co-operative Extension Offices.

It's that time of year again for different fairs being held all over.
This weekend, August 12 - 14, 2011, the Northampton County 4H Fair is in full swing. There are various demonstrations and games being held by the 4Hers. Also, the many projects in many different areas that the members have worked on all year to complete.
The projects consist of not only real live animals, but also in sewing, crafts, woodworking, leatherworking, reptiles, and many, many more.

I received the following in my e-mail today. It is a message to support your local Pennsylvania 4H youth.
4H is a wonderful non-profit organization. It teaches our youth not only about the area of their interest, but also about helping their community and learning leadership, citizenship and life's skills. They also make lifelong friendships here.
4H has projects not only in agriculture, but also many other areas, such as crafts, shooting sports, sewing, cooking, etc. Practically anything you can think of.

4h: Northampton County 4H Center Part of the Northampton County Open Gate Farm Tour - 10/04/10 08:44 AM
Yesterday, October 3rd, 2010, was a gorgeous day. It started out with a chill in the air, but the sun eventually warmed up the day. This was the second day of Northampton County's Open Gate Farm Tour and the day that the Northapmton County 4H Center was open to the public for all to see what 4H is all about.

4h: 4Her's and "Paint Your Pony" - 09/14/10 12:57 PM
Last Friday evening, the Northampton County 4H Horse clubs had a unique experience. They were able to "Paint a Pony".
Native American friends of mine spoke to the 4H horse club members (and their parents) about the symbols that the Native American tribes painted on their ponies. They explained that the symbols told a story and what each symbol meant.
The adults were also very much interested.
Afterwards, the 4Hers had the opportunity to "paint" 2 ponies. (Native Americans always called their horses ponies, no matter what their size.) Each one told quite an interesting … (8 comments)

The Northampton County 4H Fair 2010 is right around the corner.
It will run from July 30th, 31st and August 1st. Join us as 4H youth from across Northampton County demonstrate thier skills and talents at the County 4H Fair held at the Northampton County 4H Center, in Bushkill Township just north of Nazareth, PA. 4H youth will participate in competitions ranging from handicrafts and foods to project animals.

4h: Youth Schooling Show June 5th, 2010 - 06/02/10 09:14 AM
This coming Saturday, June 5th, 2010, will be a youth schooling show at the Northampton County 4H Center just outside of Nazareth, starting at 9AM. It is being put on by Backtrackers 4H Horse & Pony Club.
There will be many classes held such as Grooming & Showmanship, Hunt Seat and Western classes along with some jumping classes. The judge will make suggestions to each participant at the end of the class on how to improve.
In addition, some fun classes will be held such as "Egg & Spoon", "Musical Mount" and an adult lead-line class.

The annual Northampton County 4H Tack Swap will be held this Saturday, April 17th, 2010 from 11AM until 2PM. It will be held at the Northampton County 4H Center in Bushkill Twp. in Pennsylvania.
This is a great place to find bargains on horse "stuff".
For those of you that do not know what a "tack sale" is, in simple terms, it is a horsey yard sale. Many different horse items will be sold here at good prices. If your child needs new riding boots, this is the place to look for it.

Tractor Supply in Nazareth, PA is helping out the 4H.
They are running a 4-H Fund Raiser from March 26 to April 18.
Anyone that stops in can purchase a 4-H Clover for $1. The 4H will receive $.60 from each dollar for the 4H program.

4h: The Disappearance of the Granges and Grange Halls - 10/08/08 02:12 PM
The other evening, I attended a Northampton County 4H Leaders Meeting. It was held at the Grange Hall in a small village of Moorestown in Northampton County, PA, a few miles outside of Nazareth.
I have been in the Hall years ago when my kids were small. It is a really neat place with a lot of history behind it. Ribbons that were won at different competitions are displayed on the walls in frames dating back to 1928. Plus, framed photos of the members of the Grange are hung throughout the meeting hall.

The Northampton County 4H Center will be sponsoring an Open Youth (ages 8 - 18) Schooling Show in Bushkill Township, just outside of Nazareth, PA. The show will be held on October 5th, 2008, in conjunction with the Northampton County Open Gate Farm Tour.
A variety of fun walk/trot and walk/trot/canter classes will be held including "Egg & Spoon", and "Musical Mount". Northampton County Annual 4H Fair is coming!!
The 4H Fair will begin Friday, August 1st and run through Sunday, August 3rd. It will be held at the Northampton County 4H Center in Bushkill Township just 4 miles north of Nazareth, PA. The admission and parking are FREE.
The 4H members will be exhibiting their project animals at this time. You will see: pigs, cows & steer, poultry, sheep, goats, rabbits, and yes, even horses.
