equestrian: Proud To Be An Equestrian!! - 01/19/12 08:41 AM

A friend of mine had posted this and wanted to share it with everyone.

You lift weights, I lift water buckets, 50 pound bags of feed and hay bales.

You run 1 mile, I ride 10.

You dance in your Zumba class, I dance with an elegant equine partner.

You work with a team, I work with a 1000+ pound animal that I have to communicate with, without words.

Who's the athlete now?

equestrian: 10 Exercises to Become a Better Equestrian - Funny Friday - 09/30/11 11:29 AM

Equestrians need to keep in shape just like any other athlete.  (Yes, horseback riders do more than just sit atop a horse.)

Here are 10 exercises that will help to become a better equestrian:

10. Drop a heavy steel object on your foot. Don't pick it up right away.  Shout, "Get off, Stupid, GET OFF!"
9. Leap out of a moving vehicle and practice "relaxing into the fall."  Roll lithely into a ball and spring to your feet.
8. Learn to grab your checkbook out of your purse and write out a $200 check without even looking down.

equestrian: Horses Are More Than Just Animals And Riding Machines - 09/29/11 11:57 AM

Horses are more than just animals and riding machines.

They are our angels.

They are our partners.

Horses are our friends.

Horses mean so much more.

Watch this video to get an idea of what horses really are to an equestrian.  I hope it gives you a better idea why some of us love our horses.

equestrian: Equestrians Share and Learn Much With Their Partners - The Horse - 09/29/11 08:44 AM

Equestrians share and learn much with their partners - the horse.

Some may never understand, while others know well what it means.

Being involved with horses teach equestrians more than just riding.  I would like to share this video to help show the lessons learned and what is shared between human and horse.

equestrian: The 2008 Paralympic Equestrian Games Set to Begin in Hong Kong - 09/07/08 08:15 AM

The 2008 Olympic Games are now history, but Hong Kong still has more excitement occuring.  The 2008 Paralympic Equestrian Games will be held from September 7 - 11 at the Sha Tin Equestrian Center.  It is the same site that the Olympic equestrian events were held this past summer.

The equestrians that participate in the Paralympic Games have some sort of physical impairment.  To watch them is truly inspiring.  A total of 28 countries have sent atheletes to the 2008 Paralympic equestrian competition.  The US has 5 horse and rider combinations.  The dressage team will consist of:

equestrian: Beezie Madden of the US Wins the Bronze - 08/21/08 01:57 PM

The top 22 riders out of 50 from Round A of the Individual Jumping Final went on to jump in Round B.  There were only supposed to be 20, but because there were 10 clear rounds and 12 riders with 4 faults, they invited 22 riders back.  Among them, U.S. riders Beezie Madden riding Authentic and McLain Ward with Sapphire.

Beezie had a clear first round and McLain had four faults.  In the second round, Beezie had four and McLain was clear.

With only two riders with a double-clear, Rolf-Goran Bengtsson of Sweden and Eric Lamaze of Canada, our U.S. riders found … (10 comments)

equestrian: U.S. Wins the Gold in Team Show Jumping - 08/18/08 01:25 PM

The U.S. Olympic Equestrian Show Jumping Team has done it!  They won the gold in the final round of team show jumping.

In a jump-off against Canada, U.S. riders had three clear rounds.  The U.S. and Canada were tied with 20 penalties after 2 rounds.  Under Olympic rules, all team members return to jump-off.  The United States was first in the ring with a clear round from McLain Ward on Sapphire.  Canadian rider, Jill Henselwood with Special Ed,  was next and had one rail down.  Laura Kraut, aboard 15.2 hand Cedric, followed with the second clear found for the U.S.  The next Canadian in the … (6 comments)

Switzerland and the United States are tied for the lead after the first round of the Olympic Equestrian team Show Jumping.

The Swiss team of Christina Liebherr, Pius Schwizer, Niklaus Schurtenberger and Steve Guerdat completed the round with 12 penalty points, as did the defending gold medalist U.S. squad of McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Will Simpson and Beezie Madden.

Sweden is in third place with 13 penalty points, followed by Great Britain and Canada tied for fourth with 16.

The competition serves as the third qualifier for places in the individual final.  The top 50 riders will be able … (6 comments)

equestrian: U.S. Show Jumpers Have a Great Qualifier Round - 08/16/08 08:06 AM

Even though the Germans were a favorite, the U.S. Show Jumpers put in a great qualifying round.  In the first Individual Qualifier, the United States was the only nation to have three double clear rounds.

The Olympics changed the format for the Show Jumping.  The competition starts out with a qualifying round, with a technical, but not a difficult course, which does not count towards points.  Since there are more countries competing in Show Jumping, and some are small countries, this allows their horses get used to the arena and the footing.

Since this round did not count … (0 comments)

equestrian: U.S. Dressage Team Places 4th - 08/15/08 08:31 AM

Our U.S. Dressage team finished 4th with a 67.819%.  Courtney King-Dye and Mythilus finished in 7th place with a score of 70.458%.  Steffen Peters, riding Ravel, finished in 10th place with a score of 70.00% and, with an entirely uncharacteristic test, Debbie McDonald and Brentina finished 34th with a 63.00%.  Apparently, after warming up beautifully, Brentina began spooking coming into the main arena.  There were significant mistakes in the canter pirouettes and McDonald could never ask her to really go for it in the ring.

Germany, on the other hand, won their 3rd Equestrian medal in Dressage.  Germany has won every Olympic Team Gold medal in Dressage since hosting … (2 comments)

equestrian: U.S. Starts Out Well With the Grand Prix Dressage - 08/14/08 07:18 AM

Now that the Olympic 3 Day Eventing is complete, it is now time for the Olympic Grand Prix Dressage competition to begin.

The Grand Prix Dressage started out well for the U.S.  Courtney King-Dye, aboard Mythilus, was the first American to enter the ring in the Grand Prix and the pair got the U.S. off to a good start with a score of 70.458.  German rider Heike Kemmer is in the lead with 72.250 and Imke Schellekens-Bartels of the Netherlands is in second.
Although the Grand Prix is the team competition, with only one ride yesterday, the U.S. is … (2 comments)

equestrian: U.S. Wins It's First Equestrian Medal in Olympics - 08/13/08 07:48 AM

Last night I had the opportunity to watch the last phase of the Olympic 3 Day Eventing, which is the show jumping.  Not only was it the medal round for the team competition, it was also for the individual.  Even though the U.S. team did not win a medal, it was still exciting!

The U.S. finished seventh in the team competition.  The complete team results are as follows:
1.  Germany - 166.10 2.  Australia - 171.20 3.  Great Britain - 185.70 4.  Sweden - 230.50 5.  New Zealand - 240.90 6.  Italy - 246.40 7.  United States - 250.00 8.  Ireland … (6 comments)
