Wordless Wednesday - Can You Help Me Out? It's amazing how animals get along with each other. They even communicate well with each other. Here we have a goat on the farm, Leroy, who was left inthe stall because he was getting into too much mischief. (In case you haven't been around goats, you may be unaware that they get into a lot of things they shouldn't and get into trouble.) Here, it looks like Leroy is being very nice to the pony and begging him to open the door to freedom. Do you think Leroy will get his way? It doesn't (19 comments)

Wordless Wednesday - Going For A Drive In the Country with a Mini Going for a drive in the country is quite relaxing as you see nature. It is even more relaxing if you do it with a horse. Horses come in many different sizes and colors. Each of the different types of horses are suited for different jobs. Here we have my granddaughter going for a drive with a miniature horse. Miniature horses are not "baby" horses or ponies. They are actual horses that only grow to a maximum height of 36". They also come in different colors. Since they are too small (12 comments)
horse photo: Wordless Wednesday - Wow!! You Are Huge!

Wordless Wednesday - Wow! You Are Huge!! My youngest granddaughter came up to the farm to see the horses. One of the horses was a HUGE Percheron. Now Percheron's are draft horses that are better known for being used on farms to help by pulling plows. This Percheron was about 18 hands high. (Horses are measured in hands. A hand equals 4". Therefore, this means that this horse is 72" tall, or 6' tall. Now this does not include the head and neck. The measurement goes from the ground up to the area between the neck and the back, or the withers.) (14 comments)

Wordless Wednesday - Who's Fastest? Let's See! Ready? Set? GO!!! Children love to play and compete against each other. Horses are no different. They tend to be very similar. Here you have a Quarter Horse running with an Off-the-Track Thoroughbred, racing not against the clock, but to see who is the fastest between the two. They are both the same age, and they are both mares, so it is a fair competition. To make it more challenging, you will note that they are running on mud. Now I don't know who won this race, but here in the photo, you can see (10 comments)
horse photo: Wordless Wednesday - Let's Play!

Wordless Wednesday - Let's Play! At first glance, this photo may look like the horses are fighting. In a way they are. They are actually playing rough. These two horses are truly the best of friends and every so often they decide to be rough with each other. Other times they may just run around, rear and buck with each other. It's amazing how the Thoroughbred is challenging the Percheron (big black draft horse). You would never know that these two stick by each other most of the time, and look out for each other, as best friends do. Just don't get (21 comments)

Wordless Wednesday - Free As The Wind It is so wonderful and beautiful to watch horses, when they run and play in the field having no worries in the world. They take time to actually enjoy themselves. We should all take a lesson trom them by taking time out of our everyday lives to play and have fun instead of working all the time. It gives our brains and bodies a break from stress and relieves tension. It is good for our mental health as well as our physical health. So include in your schedule to take some time to relax by (10 comments)
My granddaughter comes up to the barn with me whenever she comes to visit. While I work on getting my chores done, she will go to each of the horses and visit with them. Now, she does start out willingly helping me with the chores, but like any child, especially her age, she has a short attention span, except when it comes to horses. She can spend hours at a time with the horses and not be bored. Here, she is tending to one of our senior horses. It looks like they are having an (16 comments)
And they're off!! As they round the first turn, Pippa and Coco are neck in neck!
Pippa and Coco are both nine year old mares. Being the youngest of the herd and of the same age, they make for great play friends. After being cooped up after a rainy period, they had a lot of energy to expend. So, they decided to race each other. Pippa, being an Off-the-Track Thoroughbred, has racing in her blood from the past. Coco, a Quarter Horse Paint, is a great sprinter. They are both racing each other in the mud. (14 comments)
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Let's Go Driving! Last week my granddaughter attended horse camp for the very first time. She was busy with so many horse activities, met many new friends and had so much fun. One of the things that she did was went driving. Driving is where a horse is hitched to the front of a cart or wagon in which you ride in while the horse pulls it. Here we have a miniature horse, Lil' Bear, hitched to the cart. My granddaughter even had the opportunity to try her hand at driving Lil' Bear. From the smile on her (6 comments)
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Enjoying A Passion of Horses
This past weekend, my oldest granddaughter spent the weekend with me. My granddaughter is totally horse crazy and always looks forward to spending time with me because we tend to do horsey stuff. Of course, we went to the barn to groom and work with the horses for a while. She absolutely loves Pippa. As you can see here, Pippa adores her and is enjoying time with her. (12 comments)
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - It's Spring Cleaning Time Horsey Style!
It is the beginning of April. A good time to get started with some spring cleaning. But guess who is doing the cleaning? It's Pippa. She decided to pick up the brush to get started at the barn.
Now where to start cleaning in the barn? Such decisions.
Hmmmmm. The walls would be a good place to get started.
Of course the stall floors need cleaning, too, Can't forget those.
I must say, at times, Pippa is such a great help at the barn.
At the farm there are two goats, Leroy and Momo, in addition to the horses. Leroy (named after the song "Bad Leroy Brown", to which he lives up to because he is always in mischief) and Momo (short for Moses) are loveable and have their quirks. Momo, pictured here, favorite thing to do is to chew on horse manes and tails. Most of the tails of the horses have been trimmed short already by Momo. Here Momo is busy "trimming" King's mane. What is really amazing is that the horses don't seem to (10 comments)
During the cold, windy and snowy time here in Eastern Pennsylvania, the horses have been pretty much penned up in a small area. No one really wanted to wander out into the open and the cold winter weather. After our snowstormlast week, the sun finally came out, warming everyone and everything, as well as melting the snow. Pippa decided to take this time to take a well deserved snooze in the warm March sun. It gets rather tiring to stand around and do nothing but freeze. (14 comments)
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Grazing Under the Super Moon
Earlier this week the super moon was out and I was enjoying the nice weather and the peacefulness at the farm after doing my chores. The horses were quietly munching on their hay in the paddock. I couldn't resist taking this picture perfect photo. That is Pippa looking over at me and King is on the left eating. (12 comments)
Do you think this year's candidates have gone through this training and trained well to run for their offices?
With the way they have been running their campaigns this year, it does sure seem like they have been using this method to train. At least they did help by cleaning out the horse paddocks.
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Enjoying a Quiet Fall Evening
It was a beautiful autumn evening. The temperatures were comfortable, with a slight breeze, and the sun setting after a beautiful sunny day. The fall colors at their peak in Eastern Pennsylvania. Watching the horses grazing in the pasture. What a great way to just spend some quiet time out in the pasture!
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Little Horse, Big Power
This past weekend Equi-Librium Therapeutic Center in Nazareth, PA held their second annual horse show. The participants were the students, who showed family and friends what they learned over the year. The weekend was also the Northampton County Open Gate Farm Tours, of which Equi-Librium participated. At the end of the horse show, instructors had their chance to show what they were able to do in a speed class using the school horses. Here, the driving instructor has Li'l Bear hitched to a cart. Li'l Bear is a miniature horse that is about the size (6 comments)
Horsey Wordless Wednesday - Fun Day for Horses, Riders and Spectators
Have you ever been to a polo match? If you haven't, it is well worth your time to go and see what it is all about. It is exciting to watch the riders gallop the horses down the field with mallets in hand hoping to be the one to hit the ball into their team's goal. Believe it or not, the horses have as much fun as the riders and spectators do. When the riders are getting the horses ready, you can seen the horses are looking forward to the game (14 comments)
Here you see three of the of the six horses from the herd at the farm. From left to right, they are Noah, King and, you guessed it, Pippa. These three hang out together most of the time. Noah and King are usually together no matter what. Pippa seems to tag along with them. Noah is 31 years old, the oldest of the herd. King is 17 years old and Pippa is the youngest at the age of 8. In this photo it looks like King has an itch and is using Noah as a (6 comments)
My granddaughter had been asking me about riding a horse for about a year now. I finally took her to a local horse farm for her first riding lesson. She was in heaven! As you can see from her expression, she absolutely loved it! As you can see, she was riding on her own, steering the horse. She even trotted a few steps. At the end of the lesson, she went out for a short "trail ride" around the farm. At the end, she helped untack the horse and brush it. I know my granddaughter (14 comments)
