Meals on Wheels, Another way to reach your community - 07/28/08 06:41 PM

The Meals on Wheels program that has been such a wonderful blessing to so many of our elderly is now struggling to reach the elderly due to the high gas prices.
This may very well be a wonderful opportunity for those of us who have a little extra time and a few bucks for gas to bring an elderly person or 2 some food.
I never really thought about Meals on Wheels having difficulty but I sure do think about the elderly who were barely making it before this surge in prices.
Here in Ocala Florida we have plenty of 55+ … (0 comments)

Is it a Trailer, A Mobile Home or A Manufactured Home? - 07/27/08 10:32 PM
Stereotypes have really heaped Trailers, Mobile Homes & Mobile Manufactured Homes in the same pot.
They don't belong together!
Years ago my parents bought a trailer that was more than tired and put it on some property that they purchased in the Catskills NY.  It needed a hand grenade!  It was a hunk of junk!!!
Later they bought a new singlewide mobile home but the standards were still very loose on construction.  After 20 years it is still on the property but uninhabitable.
Here's a glimpse into the current market for Mobile Manufactured Homes:  Click Here

What to expect from a home inspection - 07/23/08 07:09 PM
One of the home inspectors that I've worked with has graciously given me the privilege of recording the following video.  It explains what you can and can't expect to be checked during an inspection.
Selecting an inspector is your choice as a buyer and it is you, the consumer who needs to decide the service and attention your soon-to-be home should get during an inspection.
Remember, The inspector works for you, you're paying him.

"Investors", What's the difference between real and wannabees - 07/23/08 04:57 PM
In 2004 & 2005 if you could fog a mirror, you could sell real estate, especially to the "investors".  Here in Ocala Florida we had those investors coming out of the woodwork, they came from near and far like the gold rush!
Some took home equity loans so they could build houses and flip them, some bought for cash.  Deals were being made that were putting builders at a 6-18 month backlog.
The buzz was that if you build these homes at the current rate of increase in value you'll make a killing!!!
The media was pushing the "bubble burst" mindset, … (0 comments)

Safer driving, better gas mileage, longer lasting tires. Are you interested? - 07/22/08 09:50 PM
Realtor, Realtor do you wear your tires out driving all over town?  This is not some great revelation but I hope it helps those of you who are interested.
I have been hearing about putting nitrogen in my tires and how it would be beneficial.  I blew it off most of the time and then I started to inquire about it.
I bought a new Hyundai Elantra in February and turned in my old Elantra.  I like the car model, I get great gas mileage and have had only minor repairs over the last 4+ years with my previous Elantra, so … (6 comments)

When Money is a Concern, How do Hotels Treat You? - 07/22/08 05:32 PM
$100 per night, $150, even $300 or $400 per night.  It depends where you're going and why you're there.
From a Realtor's perspective I really appreciate when local businesses treat my customers with a great deal of respect and understanding.
Often I have had customers comment about accommodations at various hotels, motels or inns.  Some good, some not so good.
Economy is often a factor in making a decision as to where you will stay, but should economy mean dumpy and dirty, no amenities and an uncomfortable bed?...I think NOT!
In a few weeks I have a customer coming here to … (5 comments)

Does Your Agent Care about you? Find a good Agent! - 07/14/08 07:35 AM
Every person who has a job is doing it for one reason, to sustain themselves, lets make that point perfectly clear!
Realtors come with many personalities and traits, some good, some not so good.
Whether I am working with a buyer or a seller, my goal is to get them what they are looking for and to see them happy at the closing table.
Nearly 2 years ago I had a young lady who was 22 years old (only a couple months older than my oldest child).  She is an awesome person, the kind of gal you just want to work … (0 comments)

Virtual Tours Sell Houses, Even For Sale By Owners - 07/08/08 08:09 AM
This is not a topic that many Realtors like to hear about, but it's true!
Of course there are many factors that need to be considered when one is selling their home themselves.
As long as MLS remains a strong, viable force in the real estate industry it will continue to attract the lion's share of buyers.
That doesn't mean that For Sale By Owners can't compete on an effective level.
The questions are:
How effective are you as a FSBO? Are you attracting the kind of buyers that will get your home sold? What is your time worth? Do you … (2 comments)

My nephew in China Skyped me this morning... - 07/06/08 05:09 PM
My nephew is in China on a semi-school exchange.  He has been there for over a week and longs for home.
He's a young man and has never been away from home, so this is a really big adventure!
Last week he emailed me twice along with all his other contacts...not really a personal way of communicating.
Yesterday I downloaded.  It was pretty cool this morning when I turned on my computer, all of a sudden there he was ringing in. We talked for quite a while...it was wonderful!!!
He is exactly 12 hours difference so my 6am was his 6pm.  … (1 comments)

New York Canoli's in Ocala Florida? Could it be??? Oh Yes it's true!!! - 07/04/08 10:57 PM
Being of Italian decent and being raised in New York I developed a taste for good Italian food, and better yet good Italian pastries.
I've lived in Ocala Florida for 4 years and have returned to New York twice.  When we went back it was a necessity to have a slice of pizza and then visit our favorite bakery in Kings Park on Long Island.
Well its been 2 years since my last visit so I've had a hankering for canoli's, pignoli cookies and good pizza for a good long while.
There are a few good pizza places here, one being … (5 comments)

This 4th was a real estate BANG! - 07/04/08 07:55 PM
When the office is traditionally closed for holidays, I have found that it is a good idea to man the office,  take calls and be available for walk-ins.
It seems that when there is a holiday that is not necessarily a family holiday like Christmas, Thanksgiving or Easter that people take the opportunity to look for that special deal.
Today I had a call for horse property and another renter/hopeful homeowner.  It was one of the most fruitful, or potentially fruitful floor times.
I usually hate floor time because we end up being an answering service for the staff.  Not Today!!!
