laguna beach real estate: 1 Minute Housing Report - Homes Sell Every Single Day - 11/07/11 06:45 PM
I read statistics every day about how home sales are up or home sales are down or predictions that home sales will recover or predictions that homes sales won't recover. I'm in the business of real estate and I can't figure out what all these numbers mean. However, I did see some statistics that caught my eye and actually did make sense to me. Everyday so far in 2011: 13,780 homes sell in the United States 72 homes sell in Orange County, Ca 500 homes sell every week in Orange County, Ca 2000 homes sell every month in Orange County, Ca I speak with buyer's and

laguna beach real estate: 1 Minute Housing Report - How do Americans View Owning a Home? - 03/18/11 03:13 PM
1 Minute Housing Report How do Americans view owning a Home? Last week, Fannie Mae released the National Housing Survey. Here are the survey's more interesting findings. 96% of all homeowners said homeownership has been a positive experience. 84% of Americans still believe that owning a home makes more sense than renting. Even 68% of renters believe owning makes more sense. 64% consider buying a home as a safe investment. Buying a home was considered safer than buying stocks by over three times the number of people (64% vs 17%). 2 in 3 Americans believe that lifestyle benefits of homeownership (65%)

laguna beach real estate: One Minute Housing Report ~ It's a Great Time to Sell (and Buy)! - 02/18/11 09:44 PM
Is now a better time to buy a home or to sell a home? The general consensus is that the housing market has hit a long-awaited neutral spot, meaning that prices have somewhat stabilized but could still go down a little or up a little. It's a good time to sell! If you believe that the banks are holding on to a shadow inventory of homes that will be released on the market causing a downward pressure on prices then it's better to sell now before prices drop. It's a good time to buy! Home prices have come down drastically from

laguna beach real estate: Laguna Art Museum Exhibits Artist John Paul Jones - 12/02/10 09:34 PM
I was fortunate to attend UCI at a time when the Fine Arts department was enjoying a resurgence of attention to the arts. Every quarter we would have visiting artists come in and teach classes; there was Billie Al Bengston, Joe Goode, Ed Moses and other highly accomplished artists who would critique your work and tell stories but what we as students found most interesting was their insight into the fine art world. The reason this comes to mind is the excellent show at the Laguna Art Museum featuring the works of John Paul Jones who died in 1999. John

laguna beach real estate: Pink Toilet Seat, Pro Football and 41 Laguna Beach Homes - 12/01/10 07:09 PM
A pink toilet seat, pro football and 41 Laguna Beach homes - what's the connection? My wife and I take the dogs for a walk every evening and last fall we kept seeing a pink toilet seat move from house to house in the neighborhood. Finally, we asked the question, "So what's with the pink toilet seat? Is this some form of punishment and how do we avoid getting this pink badge of honor?" It turns out that it is indeed a punishment for losing the weekly pro football fantasy pool. Based on some obscure formula - something to do with

laguna beach real estate: Laguna Beach Real Estate: Classic Car Show in Downtown Laguna - 10/22/08 10:56 PM
The annual Laguna Beach Classic Car Show was held on a cool fall Sunday in October. This event is sponsored by the local Rotary organization and takes place on the grounds of the Festival of Arts, the location of the local art shows that take place every summer. The show was like attending a class on the history of car design. American muscle cars - Corvettes, Camaros, Barracudas, hot rods - looking like they just came off of the lot - ready to growl, eat up blacktop and guzzle 29 cent gas. Classic Jaguars, Fiats, and Aston Martins. Elegant Rolls

laguna beach real estate: Banks, Brokers and Real Estate - 09/16/08 01:30 PM
Whenever I need perspective on this crazy real estate market I stop by a mortgage broker that I've known for many years. These are the people that actually pay attention to the movement of the 10-year treasury, the ever changing guidelines and the economic reports. What's even more amazing to me is that they actually enjoy it! Nothing makes them happier than a small blip of economic activity that means interest rates may drop an eighth of a point. But they also love expounding on the news that some small storm in some unknown country means that the price of

laguna beach real estate: Holiday Peanuts (with apologies to Charles Schultz) - 12/16/07 02:29 PM
One of our continuing family traditions is to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas Special and, in a slightly more twisted bent, I'm proud to say that my daughter can quote almost every line from the National Lampoon Christmas Vacation movie. Chevy Chase's performance is definitely Oscar material in our household. Of the two pieces, Charlie Brown, though somewhat dated, has the more wholesome sentiment with Charlie Brown decrying the commercialism of Christmas. Even his dog Snoopy, much to Charlie Brown's dismay, wins the annual house lighting competition by decorating his doghouse in grand style. As a Realtor my favorite part is when Lucy tries to

laguna beach real estate: This Starbucks or the one across the street? - 11/19/07 04:21 PM
Like most agents, I prefer to have my clients ride along with me when we are looking at properties. It gives me a chance to get to know them and, in turn, it gives them a chance to get to know me. It may take a few of these outings for us to connect both with each other and with the right property. Some clients insist in following in their own car, maybe they have a baby, small kids or a dog. One client brought her family and friends along to help look at homes. This isn't the ideal situation but I will usually print

laguna beach real estate: Who's the Boss? - 11/04/07 07:32 PM
I took my daughter to experience Bruce Springsteen at the venerable Los Angeles Sports Arena last week. I had promised her that if Bruce got back together with his group, the E Street Band, we would find a way to go. It was 27 years ago that my wife and I saw Bruce prove it all night in the same arena and left feeling exhilarated. The Boss still pours as much ragged passion as humanly possible into his performance. For those that haven't witnessed him live the shows are equivalent to a good old fashioned tent revival - always impassioned, articulate

laguna beach real estate: St Joseph to the Rescue! - 10/09/07 12:26 AM
I dug a small hole, the earth still soft from the recent rain, and dropped in the small figurine. Upside down, the rear of the house, facing the house, 3' from the wall, 12" deep. Those were the instructions ... now it's up to St. Joseph. It's amazing the lengths we Realtors will go to in an effort to sell a home. I purchased several St. Joseph home selling kits from The King's House in Scottsdale, Az. The owner of this family business, Bob Weflen, said that he has sold nearly 600 of these St. Joseph kits in the last 3

laguna beach real estate: We're Getting Our Town Back! - 09/06/07 05:04 PM
We're getting our town back!! Summer is over, the Art Festivals are closed, vacationers have packed their bags, school has started and our little beach town is quiet once again. You may think of Laguna Beach as a laid back artist community but in the summer you can't swing a beach towel without hitting someone. Don't get me wrong, I love the Festival of Art, the Sawdust Festival and the Pageant of the Masters. Our art scene supports many artists and craftsman (my sister-in-law included - an outstanding jeweler) who work year round to build up their inventories of pottery, paintings, jewelry
