Sex Offenders…some want to know where they live, others would rather not. From our research, we found that 50% of people want to know where they are, and 50% of people want nothing to do with it.  Why the separation?  It depends on who you are.

If you’re a young family with children, or a single woman looking for a good safe neighborhood, this is something you should look into. You want to make sure you’re safe and you’re family is safe. If you’re a young guy who just graduated college and is looking for anywhere to live, you probably don’t care as much. That’s fine if you don’t care or aren’t worried about it, but at the very least you should be aware of your surroundings.

I’m sure there are those of you who are out there who are wondering, “How accurate are the sex offender lists or maps?”.  We have found that these lists are updated daily and sometimes even multiple times a day. However, accuracy is definitely an issue and it’s true that when a sex offender moves, they are SUPPOSED TO check in with the local police department to notify their whereabouts, but this doesn’t always happen.

Another thing I’ve often heard people talk about is, “Is Urination in Public a sex offense?”. The answer to that is yes. Even though to some it may seem harmless, it’s still an offense. The good thing about most maps is that they do a good job differentiating and labeling who did what crimes. We will be providing a Sex Offender Map, similar to the one Family Watchdog provides. Here’s an example.

What it all boils down to is awareness and preparing for the future. Whether you’re researching for your first or final home or apartment, do yourself a favor and get to know the area and any potential harm that could be affiliated with the area. Yes, you may only be looking to move into this area for a year, but things change, and it’s best to plan ahead.
