Ever wanted to play that special course in the Carolinas but just haven't had the opportunity to do so? Well now you can through the Rounds 4 Research program sponsored by the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association. Beginning April 19th (Heritage week at Harbor Town) through May 6th (Wachovia Championship in Charlotte) golfers from all over the world will have the opportunity to bid on over 250 tee times at courses across the Carolinas. The Carolinas GCSA set up this tee time auction to benefit turf research at Clemson and North Carolina State Universities. The funds raised will be used to further turf research in our state which helps us as golf course superintendents to keep your courses beautiful. The courses and clubs involved have donated one tee time this calendar year to this initiative. Please go to www.rounds4research.com to view the courses which are participating and consider putting in a bid to try out a new course you may not have played. Its for a good cause and you'll enjoy a great round of golf. For those of you who receive the South Carolina Golf Association newsletter, there is an excellent article discussing the program in more detail and they also give some interesting stories on how the research dollars are being used effectively.

Okay... Another one of my pointless rants!! I hosted a fund raiser last night at the British Open Pub at Cat Island, SC. With the help of Chef Tom Miller and his staff, we had a great turnout for our spaghetti and meatball dinner!! My rant today is simply thanking The Sanctuary Golf Club and The British Open Pub who allowed us to use their facitilities! Chef Tommy is always willing to make himself available for so many different functions... and mind you he does it without looking for the angle to make a profit. He donates his time and his only day off, two weeks in row for MDA!!! The staff there are professional and they to were simply volunteering!! Wow, what a great place!

Retirement looming?

What are most folks heading towards retirement looking for? Besides financial security, good health, and the other stuff that goes along with it! In real estate terms? What kind of place do most retired people want to live? A place that is active? Where there is a lot of events going on? Golf? Tennis? How about different clubs where like minded people can interact and enjoy each others company?

Okay Okay, this is an advertisement!! What I am getting at is a place that is as I described. Dataw Island! Two 18 hole championship golf courses, eight har-tru tennis courts, even two championship croquet lawns! There are about 25 different clubs from the yacht club to our art club including pottery, water color, oils, sewing... then there are the other social clubs poker, bridge, fitness of every kind! We even have a supper club that allow our new members the ability to meet others in a comfortable environment--- there homes!

One of my clients always tells me and my new clients (she lives on Dataw)... the hardest part about living on Dataw Island is that you will have to learn how to say "no thank you"!!

The great thing that is happening now on Dataw Island is the developer incentives that we are offering. This is a great deal! We have 55 developer lots remaining and each of these lots will be sold (at market value) with an Equity Golf Membership... that's a $39.000 value! And for the next five lots that sells, the developer is going to pay two years worth of unimproved dues! That's a pretty dog gone good deal.... RIGHT?
