Spook Cave Campground...is it haunted? - 10/30/08 08:19 PM
Local legend has that this cave is haunted!  Local legend in some areas say that Big Foot is around also.  ON our last trip, we were down in Praire du Chen, WI.  We crossed the river into Northern Iowa and about 6 miles in we came to this Campground.
we had some time and like to get off the beaten path so we pulled in.  We found a quiet campground, for one night stops or all year setups.  The one thing that brings people in is the Spook Cave.  We took the tour of the cave by BOAT!  It is … (6 comments)

A good dog is hard to beat! - 10/24/08 09:35 AM
A friend of mine asked me to go on a day hunting trip.  Part of the day was going to be spent in pursuit of squirrels.  This can be very challenging to just see the critters in the big oaks.  Well, Max brought along his dog and said the dog will help us.
We were only in the woods a min, when the dog went up to tree and put one paw on the trunk, Max said that there was one squirrel in that tree, and sure enough there was!
A bit later, the dog put 2 paws on a trunk … (15 comments)

Spring Lake Church's Kropp Kakor supper...tonight! - 10/23/08 04:00 PM
So what is a kropp kakor?  It is basically a potatoe dumpling.  It is the size of a baseball (nicknamed cannon ball) Has meat inside of it usually, and is a pain in the but to make.  Claimed as a scandenavian dish, others also claim it.  I have seen the Polish do something simalar, but a lot smaller.
This is the main fundraiser for the ladies in our church, but all the guys also chip in and help.  It is one of the great get togethers for our little Spring Lake Church.    Thewe is a bake and craft sale that goes … (6 comments)

A bountiful harvest!! - 10/21/08 09:57 PM
With the fall harvest fast approaching the finish line, I ran across a picture of my fishing buddy, Roy, from the year before he died.  He had a small garden and called me over one day to halp him with his cabbage heads.  He was going to make sour kraut.  When I got there I almost fell over...
Roy was confined to a wheel chair most of the time, but had stripped these heads so they were ready to shread.  the smallest weighed 20 pounds, and that was after the outside layers were taken off.  This made some excellent kraut!!!

Down Country Roads...John Denver - 10/17/08 07:34 PM
I was out showing a client some hunting land this morning.  After meeting him and walking the property, we went our separate ways.  I took some back roads for a change to to see the area.  I had on my favorite county station on and John Denver came on singing 'Country Roads'.  As I listened to the words, my mind drifted for a bit.
The farther into the song the more I could relate on this beautiful day.  My wife is out of town and I could tell how much I did really miss her, although the time alone is … (14 comments)

A Night of Dancing! - 10/11/08 10:03 PM
Well, after about 3 hours of hopping around the floor to Polka's and Waltz's and a variety of other dances, I am ready for BED!  It is surprising what muscles you use that don't get a lot of use otherwise.   A crowd of about 100 most over 50, tuned out to dance, listen or sing along.  It was fun seeing people I hadn't connected with for 6 months or so.  I made a few connections on Real Estate, which will be future business, and all the while I was having fun and burning the calories.
Get out of the house and get … (10 comments)

A Musical at the Guthrie Theater. - 10/11/08 09:36 PM
Well, being that business is a bit slow, now is the time to fit in all those little things you have always wanted to do, but didn't have the time.
We went to see Little House on the Prairie.  In the TV show Melissa Gilbert played the 2nd daughter. (I am really bad with names).  In this production she played the mom.  What a fantastic performance form everyone including the younger actors.
It doesn't matter what you go see or what you do, things are going to change, so get out and o something while the time is right.  There are … (4 comments)

And It's Polka Time with Tony Jambor! - 10/11/08 10:09 AM
Time to kick the heels up once again.Tony Jambor and his band will be playing at the Isanti City Community Center.  This is a great time to enjoy some of the old time music and dnace.
For those of you who do not know how to do the Polka or a Waltz don't know what you missing.  In todays world, when you dance you stand a part.  With a nice Waltz, you get to touch the 'merchandise'.  That goes for both the me and ladies.
If you already have a partner it's a great way to start the evening.  … (3 comments)

Early Season Starts Tomorrow! - 10/10/08 06:14 PM
It's that time again that many outdoors men and women, and even kids, head for the woods after the elusive white tail deer.  Although always a worthy quarry, it isn't as hard as it was 30 years ago.  Intensive management has brought on many opportunities to come in contact with the Whitetail Deer.  That also includes with your car.
For me, this weekend is the early antlerless hunt.  It means that many families will be out with the younger hunters.  It means it is time for me to pull out the orange clothing and check all the equipment so I am ready … (4 comments)

How to call the Police when you are old and slow! - 10/04/08 06:45 AM
My dad was having a problem in the sixties with the neighborhood kids steeling form us.  Dad had two broken feet and was in a wheel chair.  After several calls to the Police dept.  He resorted to something like this...
George was an older man, and sort of forgetful.  His wife Mary yelled one night, "you forgot to shut the light off in the shed".
So George went out to shut the light off, but he saw someone in the shed steeling from him.  He called 911, and the dispatcher said, "sir being they are outside, please stay in your home, … (14 comments)

Turn out the Lights, the parties over! - 10/03/08 10:05 PM
Well, it's basically over for another year.  It is time to close up the cabin and squirrel away the gear.  Here are a few tips for the cold weather people.
1. If you don't use your cabin in the winter, make sure the water is drain very well.  Look for sagging pipes that can collect water and freeze.
2. Make sure to use RV anti freeze in the drain traps.
3. Make sure to drain the washing mach hoses!!!!!
4. Rodent proof.  We use bounce dryer sheets.  For us, it has been the best deterrent and no offensive smell, like moth … (4 comments)

Do we really need to have a new style dollar!? - 10/03/08 06:08 PM
We have been seeing this for a long time.  The gov. has been updating our currency to make it less viable to counterfeit.   So now, we have all kinds of currency in circulation and I wouldn't know if if it was real or not!
But, I think they have finally hit the nail on the head.  Here is the new One Dollar Bill and it reflects the current economic conditions!

The Church Basement Ladies.... - 10/03/08 05:36 PM
I just had the pleasure of seeing the Church Basement Ladies play at the Plymouth Play House. This is a sequel and the say it was just as good as the first one.  We took a small bus tour, 18 friends and relatives among 20+ NEW friends.  My wife and I hit several plays a year, and if you haven't taken the time to do this, find a small playhouse and set back and enjoy.  It's down home fun!!!

White Sox Win...AGAIN!!! :( - 10/01/08 08:15 AM
It was a great pitchers game.  2 hits for the Sox and one hit for the TWINS.  Chicago scored 1 run and blanked the Twins.  To many of the ones who don't watch baseball, it would be a boring game.  For many who do watch the game it was a boring game.  But for those who understand the pitching and hitting mechanics of this game, there is a lot more then just throwing the ball and hitting it.
But, for now I will watch and cheer for the teams.  I will enjoy the great defensive plays, and a well hit ball.  Who Do I favor...that depends on who … (3 comments)
