A New Year is fastly approaching and will over take us soon. If this has been a tough year, now it the time to turn it around.

It can be fairly simple...When told that won't work, Don't say Oh...OK. Say, well then what will or how can I make it work. Meet the challenge head on.

Don't say, I'm no good at this. Say...I know I can be better, show me how.

Don't say...Life SUCKS. Say, Life is a real challenge right now, but it will get better.

The point is, life is as bad as you make it. Yes, some people are saddled with some extreme hardships. Look at your situation and ask yourself...am I as bad off as they are? If not...Say...Today is a good day to be alive.

Life is what you make it. Go around with a smile and you will feel better and make others feel better.

Laughter helped my Mom and Dad through many tough times and hardships.

Out of the Mouths of...Seniors?!

This week my wife and I delivered Anonymous Santa gifts to the Elderly shut ins. We met some nice people and some really genuine ones also. One was a 94 year old lady that didn't need a walker to get around. Her secret to life...A High Ball for breakfast, A High Ball for Lunch, A Beer for Dinner and a High Ball before bed...She said she didn't need sleeping pills!

Well, here is one that I think could have come from several of the residents that we talked to.

An elderly man in his 80's got up and started putting on his coat.

"Where are you going" asked the wife.

"I am going to the Dr."

"Are you sick"? his wide asked.

"No, I am going to get me some of these Viagra pills".

The wife got up and started to put on her coat.

"Where are going?" he asked.

"I am going to the Dr. too>"

"Why is that?" he replied.

"Well, if you are going to use that rusty thing again...I am going to get myself a tetanus shot!"

North Branch Bridge Project is underway...FINALLY!!!

WE have been waiting for this project to get off the ground for many years. The Bridge the crosses interstate 35 (State hwy 95) has been a bottle neck for years. As the population grew...the old 2 lane bridge that serves a busy State Hwy became obsolete.

The New bridge will have 4 lanes and a turning lane. This will allow traffic to travel through and into town at a quicker rate by eliminating the back ups of long lines.

Although the roads will remain open, if you are traveling through North Branch...allow an extra 10-15 min. There will be times of single lane traffic, and a lot of construction traffic moving about.

This project will last through most of 2010 so be prepared for the delays. BUT, when finished, traffic will move much smoother all year round.

Anonymous Santa in North Branch...For the Seniors!

My wife and I did our annual distributing of the Anonymous Santa gifts for the Seniors. These go to many of the shut ins who have no one to visit them for the Holidays.

We delivered 15 boxes today and the smiles we got were priceless.

Most of the Begging goes on for the kids. Very understandable, but, this is another part of society that gets forgotten all to often. This program is service double the number of seniors this year as last.

This very nice center piece fit really nice in the apartments of most of these elderly gems. We heard some great stories and some heartaches also. We sat and talked with all who wanted. For 6 hours we enjoyed the stories of days gone by and hardships to come.

Please...don't forget the Seniors in your life. At the very least, pick up the phone and call...you will be glad you did!

The Fall season ended Today...at least at My house!

Many people will argue as to when the Fall season starts and ends. Many say it is when the sun gets to a certain point which is usually the 21st or 22nd of October. The fall season emcompasses both Halloween and Thanksgivings Day.

Many have gone to the thinking that Black Friday is the start of the winter season and certainaly the Christmas Season. Well, I have a sure fire way to tell at my house...

Fall ends when...

My Wife puts all the fall decorations on a pile to be packed away.

Winter starts when... again, My wife breaks out the singing Santa by the fire place. The end of fall and the beginning of winter sometimes even falls on the same day.

It is also funny how my 'Honey Do' list gets really big all of a sudden.

I would like to thank all who sent prayers up for my Mother-in -Law. She did come home today, although My wife and I are not thrilled about it being so soon. She still has many issues that she is battling besides the broken ribs.

Why we should proof read...

I am one of the worst spellers around. I have Dictionary at hand( By the way...if I don't know how to spell the word, how will I find it in the dictionary?) I use spell checker every chance I get. I still miss some of the mis spelled words.

Well here is a great example of why you should proof read.

Coca-Cola is fixing an embarrassing typo to the word 'disk' in the copy write information on about 2 million 12 packs of the drink. In the misprint the 's' is replaced with a 'c'. Normally the small type under the copywrite information states that 'the red disk icon' and contour bottle are trademarks of the Coca-Cola Co.

I think I will try even harder from now on!

Prayer Request...

I am asking for prayers for my Mother-in-Law. She took a fall yesterday and this morning was in severe pain. She has bee taken to the hospital where we believe she may have broken a rib or 2. She is 85 and has very severe heart problems also. She is also not real tolerant of some medication.

I thank you for any prayers sent her way.

It was a beautiful Minnesota Fall day. One more round of Golf.

It took a few phone calls, but we found one. A Golf course that would let us play a round. Some think we are crazy, but why waste a nice day when snow is knocking at the door.

That was the statement of my friend Bob. Him and his buddies are die hard Golfers. I guess, I can't ridicule them. I am the same way with my hunting and fishing. So, get off the couch while the weather is still nice and enjoy the nice days.

NOW A QUICK FUNNY FOR THE NIGHT!

A golfer called one of the caddies over. He said..."I need a caddie that can keep count. What's 3 plus 4 plus 5?"

The Caddy responded..."10"

The golfer then replied. "Perfect...you will do nicely!"

Every Year we talk at this time of year what we are most thankful for. We run the gamut that happened each year. It is surprising what we forget during the year.

But for this year...Although we are so very thankful for the Skill of the Dr.s...we salute the researchers that come up with the new ways of medicine and for them passing it on to those skilled enough to make it work. So, THANK YOU RESEARCHERS!!! You have been a blessing to our family this year!

The Best Part of Entertaining...

We hosted the Turkey Day dinner today. We have taken all week to get ready. Cleaning, food prep, games and beverages to to name a few.

Then it's up early and to bed late with the final prep. I made 3 last trips to town for that forgotten item(s) yesterday. Then, the crowd starts to trickle in. The noise factor starts to grow. Laughter is everywhere. In an hour the dinner is done. All that prep for an hour meal.

Games are played and jokes are told. Some good natured ribbing goes on about someones skill, or lack thereof. Then...the best part of entertaining happens...everyone start to leave. A couple here and there until it is quiet. We turn off the TV and the Radio's. The silence is soothing.

Yes we love to entertain, but many times the best part is when our loved ones leave.

All our visitors bring happiness to our home...

Some when they come and others when they go!!!

Mark the Calenders...Santa is coming to Town!

Santa will be making an appearance at Peterson's Country Mill Dec. 5th between 10 am and 4 pm. Bring the kids and the pets, Santa loves them all. Pictures with the kids, family or you can even include your pets.

There will be a petting zoo for ages 3-10 and also Carriage Rides for all. There will be many other activities during this time with Santa!

Christmas Shopping is starting...Think twice before buying a Pet.

There are many things that are purchased for Christmas presents. Pets being a popular one. But is it a smart one.

Most puppies and Kettens are very young when brought to anew home. They need love and attention. With all the presents that are received, many times the pet is set aside. Now it''s alone in a new home and scared.

The Christmas season is also a dangerous time for pets. So much fun stuff to play with. To Chew on and eat. Things that were not ment to be eaten.

If you must give a Pet for Christmas...think of doing this. Give the supplies, collar, food, food dish, toys. A picture of the Pet to be given a few days after Christmas. The rush will be done, and it will make a happier transition and a safer one for you pet and the whole family.

Make this a thoughtful gift..PLEASE!

Tradition is at Stake...The Turkey is Missing!!

It has been a long standing tradition. The Sunday before Thanksgiving, we Butcher the Turkey. (NO Pardon from any Government officials for this Bird) My Dad has and is a master a smoking Turkey's. When done it is better than ham than ham. We use this turkey for snacking.

Well, I went out this morning and grabbed my be-heading instrument and headed for the coop. When I got there, GONE. The Turkey was gone. I have spent 2 hours looking all around the farm and it is no where to be found. He was there last night when I gave him his 'last meal'! I have called in re-enforcements to help. (8 in all)

Now I know that some of you will say, just use one that is frozen or fresh from the store. Sorry, not the same. Frozen takes to long to thaw and get ready to smoke. Fresh birds at the meat market are cold and not what Dad likes for the soaking process. (But we may have to resort to this).

So, I have until 2 pm to find this Turkey or go with a sub-par bird. For now...I am back to looking. Anyone have a good Turkey caller I can borrow?

Do you realize how much 'DARK' we have?

Because I have to watch my time fairly closely, I am in tuned with the sunrise and sunset times. We have, at least in my area, 7 hrs and 59 min. of Daylight. A minute short of 8 hours. Now for most of us, we are up and attem to work more than this. Many go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. And, the days are still getting shorter.

We now drive in the dark more and don't have as much time to do our outside duties that need to be done. During the summer, many people complain they can't get to sleep because it is light so late.

So...tell me please...What is everyone's excuse now? It seams that everyone is a walking zombie. Even I am getting an extra hour of sleep without any problem of the sun waking me early...and I still feel like I could use more.

So, I will just keep my alarm set and on the other side of the room, and enjoy the sunrise for a change!

It wasn't anything to serious. I got a stick in my eye and my wife got all excited and insisted I go right to the Dr. I was sitting in the exam room when this young lady Dr. walks in and askes How I was.

"Not bad, considering" I was looking out the window. Nothing out there but a cemetary.

"What you looking at?" she asked me.

"Oh...I was looking at my future home," I responded.

The look I recieved was priceless. Oh, and my eye...a small scratch on the lens as I suspected. Nothing to worry about. But, I could have bought a new Gun for what the office call cost me.

Feeding Wildlife...What does your Local Government Say?

There is some big concerns about the feeding of wildlife. Anything from Birds to Deer to you name it. Many say that it is unnatural and if you stop feeding, the wildlife suffers from the lack of 'Needing' to look for food.

Many concerns are about disease. This one is more of a large game issue. The big issue on this one is that by feeding large amounts of food to deer and bear, always in the same spot, and animal with a disease will transmit it much more quickly in the close quarters of a feeding area.

SOLUTIONS:

First...birds. Most birds will migrate south when the weather gets cold or food becomes scarce. Hummingbirds being the biggest concern. Be sure to pull your feeders at the right time so the birds will continue their trek south when food is still available.

Animals...Other than them becoming Pests, let's look at a couple of things. Bears are not 'Teddy Bears". They can and will do alot of damage all times of the year. DO NOT encourage a Bear. Deer...Do transmit several disease among themselves. So if you are going to feed the, (WHERE LEGAL), spread out the area where you do the feeding. This will help limit the exposure of any disease.

The othething that feeding does is makes an area able to support more wildlife. So if you start to feed...DON'T STOP! The wildlife become dependent on your support and stopping could mean a Death sentence in the colder climates.

The last concern is Hunters. Many feel that hunting over food that has been supplied is unethical and not sportsman like. Most State Game Agencies agree. This is Illegal in a majority of states.

So, when feeding the wildlife...take these concerns to heart.

This morning I did something that I have never down before...I went to Church. OK, I had better clarify. I went to GOD'S Church. His Cathedral. Here in Minnesota, it is Deer Season and I don't miss very many days afield.

But I walked out and seen the hints of the morning sun, I stopped and walked back into he house and grabbed my Bible. I have NEVER taken any kind of reading material with me as I am on a constant vigil. I read many a passage as the light grew brighter and I gave GOD my concerns. GOD in return gave me a peace of mind.

I feel more at ease things morning than I have in a long time. I think I have found a new place for prayer.

I have always been of the attitude that we need to laugh at ourselves. Maybe it is because I have done some really stupid things when I look back over the ages...(OK the last week). I enjoy poking fun at myself.

I have had people belittle me because of my humor, but, if I can't laugh at my own stupidity...I should not be allowed to laugh at others.

So...Look at yourself, and laugh at that dumb thing you did today. Embarassing...yea, maybe...but it's better than stewing over it and being misserable.

Well, the tax credit has been extended and expanded. So, for those of you who had put off buying or just couldn't get your act together...you have another chance. Unlike, one of my neighbors.

One of the Good Ol' boys was relating his marriage story. He married a great gal, Mary. ( don't ask me how that happened, but it did). He was telling me how they were on a shoe string budget for the Honey moon.

They caught a ride on a bus with a bunch of hunters. They left North Branch and headed towards Duluth. 10 miles down the road the bus broke down. "Mary", he said..."Let's go over into the bushes and made a little Whoopie". "No!" she said..."you can wait a little longer".

Well the bus was moving soon again and about a half hour later it again broke down. Seeing a chance..."Mary, let's go over to the little spot behind the trees and make a little Whoopie". "NO!", she again exclaimed, "You can wait until we get to Duluth. And don't ask again!"

On the road again in a short time all was good. 1/2 hour away from Duluth, the bus got a flat tire. My neighbor said he just sat there dejected, waiting. All of a sudden, Mary came running back onto the bus..."Come on, there is a private spot right over there we can go and make a little whoopie!"

"MARY!...What are you talking about. When I suggested that you got all mad. Why now?"

Mary Replied..."Well, I was listening to the hunters talk outside...and one of them said if we don't get to Duluth pretty soon the F***ing season will be over!!"
