fishing stories: If I use you as an agent, does the service include fishing lessons? - 08/01/11 07:59 PM
Yes, I got that question today.  Someone looking at my Blog saw I did a lot of fishing.  This guy said he has not fished in over 20 years.
Of course I said yes.
I am thrilled that I will be able to help him learn the fun side of fishing.  Seeing what else Mother Nature has to offer while out on the water.  I am also loving the fact that I am going to be able to use my hobby as a selling tool also.
WE will start looking at lake homes this weekend.   Meanwhile, I set his computer … (10 comments)

fishing stories: The Winner of the new Bass boat...Ole! - 07/13/11 09:07 PM
That is right, Ole won a NEW Bass Boat.
"What are going to do with dat boat, Ole?" Lena scowled.  "We should sell it and take the money!"
"NO Way!  I won it and I am going to keep it!"
"But Ole, there isn't enough water withing 70 miles of here to float that big thing!" growled Lena.
"Dis is Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes.  Every one from Minnesota needs a boat."
Ole storm outside after that.  A few days later, Sven stopped by, "Lena, where's that Ole?"
"She pointed out back..."He is in his New Bass boat."
So Sven … (7 comments)

fishing stories: My Minnestoa Fishing Licence is signed and ready! - 05/02/11 06:31 PM
I was getting my fishing license today and heard someone talking about how expensive it was.   Really I thought.  Well let's look at the cost...
A husband/wife combination license costs...$26  Kids under 16 fish for free.  Now, that is for 365 days.  A FULL YEAR!   What can you do all year long for $26.
Go to a Football or other game and what do you pay?  $25-$75 on average and that is only for a few hours.   All sporting events for the most part are the same.
There are plays, museums, art galleries, and an entire host of things that will … (10 comments)

fishing stories: That is one expensive fish. - 12/31/10 07:46 PM
Here in Minnesota, there are a half dozen or so destinations the people flock to for the elusive Walleye.   If you are fishing for meat on the table, you need to stay very close to home or just buy the fish sticks in the store.   Here is an example of what I mean...

My Buddies Sven and Ole went to the Lake of the woods.  For 3 days they sat in the ice house fishing.   ON the way home,  Sven pipes up..."do you realize that we jsut spent 3 days and only caught one small walleye."
"Ya, I do" replied … (11 comments)

fishing stories: Fishing Romance! - 08/28/10 08:32 PM
No secrete about my Fishing, but including Romance is a bit different on my side.
After a good morning of fishing, handling over 2 dozen fish and being splashed with water, not to mention the sweating in the hot sun, I come back to the cabin.
I walked into the house and my wife met me at the door.
"I missed you," as she touched my hand ever so softly..."NOW get those smelly clothes off before you go any farther in this house!!!
And I thought my luck was being extended!!!

fishing stories: My Strangest catch yet! - 08/15/10 12:46 PM
It was a beautiful morning Sat. as I floated onto the lake at 5am. NO ONE else around.  There was barely a hint of a breeze.  I was surprised as the weather man said 'Heavy fog in the morning'.
  Well, he was wrong, 'Again'.
Then all of a sudden in minutes...
The fog rolled in as thick as a horror movie.  It nearly blocked out the rising sun in seconds.  The morning took on a completely new quietness with the new impending darkness.
Then, as quickly as it rolled in, it was clearing.  The world was waking up.  … (11 comments)

fishing stories: I fish therefore I am.... - 08/04/10 08:04 PM
I catch a bit of grief when I talk with friends about my fishing.  Of course...they start it!. ;-}.   So when having coffee this morning one of the guys started in about if I had been fishing lately.
It wasn't long before I was being ribbed about them not seeing any of the big fish I 'claim' to have caught.
"What's the biggest fish you have ever caught?" one asked
I replied..."14 inches!"
"WHAT?...That isn't so big!"
To that I replied..."14 inches was measured between the eyes!"
There was a couple of ..'He got you there Fred'.  Yes I did, … (8 comments)

fishing stories: Some people always seam to catch the big ones! - 08/01/10 10:44 AM
Those of you know who I am talking about.  There is someone you know that always does it best or better than everyone else.  This is one of those people...
A small town Dr. was known in the area as always catching large fish.
One day while out on one of his numerous fishing jaunts, he got a call  that a woman in the neighborhood was giving birth.  So off he rushed to her aid.
After the child was born, the farmer didn't have a scale in which to weigh the newborn.  So the Dr. took out his fish scale to … (10 comments)

fishing stories: My wife is having a Garage Sale and I have un-invited myself! Fishing anyone? - 07/26/10 08:55 PM
I hate garage sales.  At least the ones that we put on.  More work than they are worth and you still end up with stuff you don't want.
So, now that she is ready to set up, I am going to help and then go fishing while they make all kinds of money!(Yea Right)
So, to get ready, I call Jim, one of the good ol' boys from down the road.  He loves to wet a line and his wife is really glad to see him go.
"Jim, I am shedding the leg irons Friday.  The Bass are calling.  You … (13 comments)

fishing stories: "X" marks the spot!!!! - 07/20/10 09:21 PM
A bit of light humor for the end of the day.   Things seam to be a bit tense so enjoy!
Bob and Fred are out in the boat fishing.  They are having a great time and the fish are biting non-stop also.
"This is the best day of fishing we have ever had", said Bob.
"It sure has, to bad we couldn't mark this spot for the next time", replied Fred.
Bob reaches into his tackle box and pulls out a big marker and puts a big 'X' on the bottom of the boat.  "There, now we will know!"
"That is the … (9 comments)

fishing stories: Sometimes you just look guilty! - 07/10/10 09:39 PM
As a kid I grew up on the farm.  We did a lot of things that were, well, let's say the law wasn't in agreement with us.  Nothing that harmed others per say, just timing issues with the local conservation guys usually.
A couple of young lads were fishing in one of their favorite spots at an out of the way lake.  All of a sudden, from behind the bushes, out jumped the game warden.  One of the boys dropped his pole and took off running.
Seeing this, the Game Warden was hot on his trail.  After about a 1/4 … (12 comments)

fishing stories: TGIF!!! - 07/09/10 06:37 PM
WOW, what a fast week. It has been busy and I won't complain.  It does mean that my weekend fishing tip will be postpones.   But, here's a short story for those of you getting to the lake.
Jim had a tough day of fishing.  He sat in his boat under the hot sun and didn't catch a single fish.  On his way home, he stopped by the supermarket and ordered 3 catfish.  He told the guy behind the counter...
"Give me 3 of the largest ones, and then throw them to me."
"Why do you want me to throw them to … (16 comments)

fishing stories: An evening with Mother Nature. Worth every minute! - 06/19/10 10:10 PM
I was out on the lake last evening.  I Know, what else is new!   But, with the hectic schedule as of late...a bit of down time was in order.
Now Nature has a sense of humor when mixed with Human wisdom.  I seen an Eagle up in a pine tree.  (Not a great picture)  Seeing and eagle is supposed to be good luck.
As I was taking it's picture, it swooped down and grabbed a fish only about 20 feet from my boat.  It was in the same spot I was casting my lure to next.  The old saying didn't say … (5 comments)

fishing stories: The one that got away.... - 05/17/10 02:03 PM
I said I would post a few photo's of our fishing excursion.  We had a lot of fun although the fish did not cooperate the best.
We caught enough for a meal...that was the goal in the long run.
This sunfish was a very nice size for the lake we were fishing.  It gave this angler a thrill for the weekend.
My biggest one was a challenge.  A Huge Northern hit my spinner bait and took off with out much I coud do.  I would bring him to the boat and it would make another run away.  It finally made a … (10 comments)

fishing stories: You Just got a Fishhook Impales into your cheek...Now What?! Panic!!!! - 05/16/10 11:07 PM
NO!!!! Don't panic!!!
This happened to me this weekend.  Fishing with some friends that just get out once or twice a year.   They are not very proficient in their casting abilities, but I take time to teach them.
Everyone on the pontoon is being careful but accidents do happen, and all of a sudden...I KNOW how the FISH feels!
There is a fish hook the is impales into the side fo my cheek.  WHAT DO I DO NOW!?  Panic...Jump over the side and swim for shore...UM, NO, we are in 5 feet 10 inches of water and I am only … (13 comments)

fishing stories: Let the fishing stories Begin.... - 05/10/10 06:33 PM
I try and get on the lake as often as I can as many know.  I also like to fish with others, it is a great way to get to know people.  Here is an excerpt from last year.
I was out fishing with a couple of the 'Good Ol' Boys from my neighborhood.   We were in a rented boat as mine was up at the cabin.  Fishing was GREAT and the catching was even better.  We each had caught our limits of several varieties.
One of the Boys said..."We need to remember this spot, but how?"
"I got it", … (12 comments)

fishing stories: A smile for Friday! - 10/02/09 03:29 PM
I have made it no secret how much I enjoy the outdoors and my fishing early mornings.  I spend enough most years to put a child through private school.  I bring home enough to eat that saves a bit of pocket change.  So this is very close to the truth...
I was talking to 2 of the Good Ol' Boys in the neighborhood.  They were telling me how they had just got back from a week long fishing trip.  They had caught one Walleye.  One of them said you know, I figure that one Walleye cost up about $400.  (I thought … (11 comments)

fishing stories: Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed...Update! - 07/05/09 06:08 PM
I wrote the first blog on 6/18.  I explained about how I had won a package of fishing gear for submitting a readers tip.    this weekend I finally had the chance to get out and try some of the lures.

The fishing was great as usual, but the catching was a bit slow even for me.   So I thought it would be a good time to try some new stuff.  The 15" 1.8# Bass hit this lure on the 2nd cast.  I got 3 more in the 7 casts.   Yup...gonna like this lure.
As a try fisherman...I will not … (8 comments)

fishing stories: Some Days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed, but... - 06/18/09 10:21 PM
...But, some days it does.  See my previous Post and you will see a closing that took a lot longer than expected.  So, today is PAY DAY!!!   I have all the paperwork done and I am heading to town.  I hear a noise outside, and see UPS driving out of the drive.
Just outside the door is a package.  I called for the wife and told her that UPS left her ANOTHER package. (She is always getting something ).  She looked at it as I was heading for the door and said, "This is YOURS!"
"IT IS?" I replied.  … (8 comments)

fishing stories: Yesterday, June 6th was Opening Day for Esox Masquinongy. - 06/07/09 09:20 AM
Yesterday evening, after the Rain died down to only a mist, I was on the lake after one of the most fierce freshwater Preditors...Esox Masquinongy!  Also Known as Muskellunge, and more commonly called Muskie.(Mostly becasue most people don't know how to properly pronounce Muskellunge.

A very close Relative of the Northern Pike, it will tackle prey 2/3's it's own size.  Now, don't get the idea that a 'muskie' is easy to catch.
The Muskie for years was known as a fish of 10,000 casts.  In other words, the chance of catching one was once for every 10,000 times you cast your lure.  … (9 comments)
