south carolina realtor: How many "For Sale" signs can there be in one community??? - 10/30/08 11:37 PM
Actually I guess it depends on the size or the community. Wow, it just looked astounding!!! While visiting some friends in Orlando Florida last weekend I was simply amazed at the number of signs in one neighborhood. There are signs everywhere;  in every neighborhood!!! It looks to be a field day if your a Buyer!!! Guess I'm just not used to that porportion here in the Upstate. Our market is good, (but not inundated) even for those looking to purchase. Makes you feels good to be home again.

south carolina realtor: A long weekend in Florida is not all bad... - 10/30/08 11:21 PM
Especially when your celebrating your Birthday with a bunch of your old friends and (long time) colleagues. A wonderful was had by all on Saturday evening. Actually, celebrating was a bit early but I just hate to travel  the roads on Halloween!!! YUK YUK!!! The weather was great but then it started to cool down the day I left for home (SC). Seems like its pretty cool all over the Eastern US right about now. But no matter what the weather, it's always good to take a couple days R&R. No I did not get a chance to see MICKEY this trip. Maybe next time. I'll … (1 comments)

south carolina realtor: Real Rain and "ActiveRain" - 09/26/08 09:38 PM
Yes, I'd say quite a bit of difference. But today actually it's some of both. You see, it's been raining (the wet type) outdoors just about all day (tropical storm hanging around the Carolinas). So it seems to me that if your finished with all the days work, then it is a perfect time to sit back and catch up on reading some posts and create a blog or so. The ActiveRain world is so vast and so informative. Such an array of professionals commenting and stating facts and figures is so overwhelming. Although this can be very addicting and quite time consuming, I don't want to go out in … (6 comments)

south carolina realtor: It's a sinking feeling when your on "E." - 09/14/08 11:01 PM
I mean when your getting off work at 5:30 PM Friday evening and you need to fill your gas tank up for the weekend's work, (sure we've heard the news and weather about hurricane Ike coming ashore) and you drive to your local gas station and it's pump handles are covered. (but the first clue was there was only one car driving away, like myself, when normally it is packed!!) Then I look across the street to the small station where hardly anyone frequents and there are cars lined out in the street in both directions! "Nope, I'm not gonna do that!!!!" … (5 comments)

south carolina realtor: What we don't do to keep our home and yard looking good!!! - 09/10/08 09:05 PM
If you could have seen me today you probably would have laughed. I looked like something from the movie Ghost Busters. You see, we have these beautiful Leyland Cypress trees lining both sides of our 2 acre property. Well, guess what, they have been invaded by an insect called a "bagworm". And to top it off they are eating and destroying our trees. We decided to try and take control of these varmits ourselves since the cost of a prefessional company was way more than our budget would allow at this time. So we donned our garb, (me in long pants, my … (6 comments)

south carolina realtor: Why do they wait till the last minute... - 09/08/08 09:33 PM
I'm speaking of a certain couple in particular. These folks originally came to me in the middle of June 08. They explained their lease would be up the 1st of August. So we had about six weeks for a search. Good enough....but just as I get them to the Mortgage office for approval they informed me they had spoke to another Lender and had some type of affiliation with a Realtor agent tied with the Lender. Well, not being pushy and listening to the wife, she wanted to "give this person a chance" all the while the husband had faith in me and wanted … (14 comments)

south carolina realtor: Addicted to HGTV ??? - 09/06/08 10:25 PM
Just wondering and taking a general survey to see if HGTV is addicting?? I certainly watch it whenever I can, which is only an hour or so in the evening. I'm especially fond of "House Hunters". I'm actually getting pretty good at guessing which home they will choose. It facinates my husband to hear my choice... if I can get him to sit still to watch it (no choice of his, mind you) Sometimes I wonder why this Realtor on TV even shows some of these homes to the Buyer. It's not even in their "wants and needs list" or they say they would like a … (11 comments)

south carolina realtor: This look familiar??? - 09/05/08 11:04 PM

Are we getting tired of this yet??? Seems like many of the palms will look like this along Floridas East Coast and the Eastern Coastline of the US this weekend and the week to come. I hope everyone heeds the warnings and takes the necessary precautions to keep your home and your family safe.
The local agents at Keller Williams Realty in Upstate South Carolina are offering to open their homes or  any available property or rental they may have, to another Keller Williams agent from the coastline that may have to evacuate their premises. I think this is a wonderful gesture and it just goes to … (5 comments)

south carolina realtor: It's time to purchase a new cell phone... - 09/01/08 07:50 PM
Yep....Been putting it off long enough. Guess it's time to "get with the program" and get a "Smart phone". Is a Blackberry the best way to go for Realtors? Or is an I-phone proven any better?? I see my fellow agents with both and they seem to be content with their purchase. Or are they???  Are there any features that I must have that I'm not aware of? Besides unlimited minutes....(which I seem to be using a lot of lately.) I always have my digital camera with me and I'm not one to constantly take pictures with my phone, but I guess it's always a nice feature … (8 comments)

south carolina realtor: It's almost like I having an "Assistant": - 09/01/08 07:11 PM
And the BEST part is.... I don't have to pay her Assistant wages. I have been very fortunate to have such a dedicated client who has had more time than I have to search the internet (along with what I'm sending them) for their new home since moving here to South Carolina. She claims she just loves searching the internet so she says she doesn't mind at all. She has forwarded every site and everything they want to preview and finding sites that I don't frequent or have never come across. I'm glad she has nothing to do except this and it HAS been very helpful. Course … (1 comments)

south carolina realtor: Do we "Blog" or do we watch the Weather Channel??? - 08/30/08 11:59 PM
As we keep a constant eye on all the active Hurricane and Tropical storm activity this weekend, I'm sure it's going to spoil a lot of weekend plans. Having a weekend picnic sure beats evacuating your hometown. My heart goes out to these poor people. Taking time out to write blogs at your computer may not be #1 priority on a many peoples mind the next couple days. Reminds me of three years ago when we had such an active August with four Hurricanes back to back. I remember it quite well sitting through a couple of these myself in Central Florida. Best of luck to you all.

south carolina realtor: WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE????? - 08/30/08 11:45 PM
Actually I'm speaking of Home Restoration or those Investors that like to "flip" properties. After visiting a couple again today I find it quite discouraging that some of these "guys" or "rehabers" as we'll call them for sake of this discussion, would do such a thing as to cosmetically cover up flaws that actually may have a horrible outcome in the future. I guess I'm from the old school. "If your going to do something, do it right.... I have seen excellent jobs and I have seen those that look pretty shabby, in my opinion. Makes a person wonder!!!???
Still wondering...

south carolina realtor: Keeping in touch with past "Clients" - 08/29/08 10:44 PM
Well, it's finally paying off. Since relocating and starting over with a data base of new hometown clients, The phone is ringing and the emails are coming. I'm getting referral business from them. This is good. Of course, as Realtors we all know that emails are a constant touch and can be automated, but I personally try and keep in touch with former Buyers and even a couple Sellers. I always try to make a quick visit now and then if I'm going to be in the neighborhood, or drop off something special. Checking on their children or pets is always a good reason to connect.  Had 2 phone … (7 comments)

south carolina realtor: Looks like many will be watching the "WEATHER CHANNEL" this Holiday weekend - 08/29/08 10:09 PM
Well , here we go again!!! Hurricane season is upon us. Looks like Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Hanna will be the hot topic this weekend and first of next week.
After "been there, done that" I know exactly how some folks are feeling..... watching the weather channel constantly. Stocking up on food items and medicines and preparing your home for the worst.  Although I didn't suffer the consequences of Hurrican Katrina, I did manage to survive Hurricane Charlie. And mind you I have nothing to whine about because I was in Central Florida. But heh, 90 MPH winds are nothing to shake a stick at. … (7 comments)

south carolina realtor: People are finding SOUTH CAROLINA a beautiful place to live.... - 08/28/08 03:57 PM
And to move to. It seems this is really what is keeping our economy in South Carolina and our Real Estate Market prosperous especially here in the upstate. As a matter of fact, I have 3 current Buyer clients that are all from out of state. I'm talking New York, Florida, and not too distant North Carolina. It appears that the weather, the scenery, (such as the mountains, lakes and the ocean not too far) and the lower than national average home prices are drawing people from all over. I think this is wonderful and there's still plenty of room.... and homes for many more. It … (1 comments)

south carolina realtor: Just when your getting ready to SELL... the bugs attack your trees: - 08/25/08 08:34 PM
And at a high rate of speed I might mention. Yes, would you believe it.....Just put our house on the market last week. We have beautiful Leland Cypress trees (about 20-25 ft. tall) lining both sides of our property. All 2 1/2 acres of it. They provide a great privacy barrier, so of course we wouldn't want to loose them to a few (thousands) of bagworms. So we are educating ourselves real quick on how to eradicate these pesky insects that are "nibbling" away at these poor innocent  trees. We are going to put it in the hands of a professional, since neither my husband or I have time … (3 comments)

south carolina realtor: IF YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO, YOU'LL NEVER "WORK" ANOTHER DAY IN YOUR LIFE. - 08/24/08 08:00 PM
No matter what type of job you have. I hope this rings true for you. It's Sunday evening and I'm just taking poll of the day. Yes... today caught me working. I realize Sunday is most commonly known as a day for church and a day of rest and in this area of the country many folks consider it just that. It's a time for family get togethers and big dinners. I always have time for Sunday morning church but since I don't have a large family and my children are out of state; (and my husband is on the road) I may as well make good use of … (9 comments)

south carolina realtor: How many Websites can one truly have???? - 08/23/08 07:46 PM
And have them work effectively. I am certainly not the biggest dog on the block!!! and don't plan on being either.  Granted, technology is not my forte', so I don't consider myself an expert on this subject. (and probably couldn't handle more than one or two sites at the most.)  But I'm just curious if having more than ONE website (even two) is beneficial. Am I correct in assuming that if you have it marketed correctly, and linked properly what would be the need? Lately I have been investigating internet website marketing companies and who can do a decent job and have it affordable. They made mention for me to be thinking of another domain … (13 comments)

south carolina realtor: WHO'S NAME IS ON THAT SIGN??? - 08/22/08 09:50 PM
Just wondering.....Do ready, willing, and able BUYERS really pay attention to what Brokers name or which agents name is on the "FOR SALE" sign in the front yard? I recently had a seller tell me (at the end of the listing appointment) that they wanted "the other company's sign in their front yard because "this company" was better known in the area, and that particular agent has lived here longer!!! Is this for real??? I tried explaining and convincing my way to securing this listing but to no avail. Maybe this was all an excuse... guess I'll never know.

south carolina realtor: "PRICE" WAR AND "BEAUTY" CONTEST - 08/22/08 09:35 PM
Yes, that's what I seem to be telling all my clients now days, especially my seller clients. You might say this has always been true, but it seems imperative in todays market that you have your home in the best possible condition and "looking good" if you want those continued scheduled showings and a contract in hand. A most important factor is to have it priced fairly. Make it just a little better than the one down the street. Everyone is looking for a good deal, so make yours on the top of their list.
And...as I say to all my Buyer clients: I'm … (7 comments)
