It's time once again for the Canton High Drama Club's annual fall musical. It is going to be hard to top last year's smash performance of Legally Blonde but I am sure this year will be just as great!
As I am sure most readers know, Footloose was originally a 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon. It was modified for a stage production in 1998 and the movie was re-made in 2011.

This weekend, the Canton Community Theatre opens its summer musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" Performances are August 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 at 8:00 pm the Canton Community Theatre located at the Village Shops, 95 Washington Street, Canton, MA.
The cast includes a mix of new and familar faces - featuring Rachel Lazerus, Kevin Fortin, Kelly Lane, Cassie Jones, Reggie Joseph, Allison Ristaino, Mitti Bhattacharya and more! The Canton Community Theater has been enriching the lives of Canton citizens since its inception in 2001, from the annual summer productions like The Wizard of Oz, Music Man & Beauty & The Beast to their spring/winter productions like Death by Chocolate, Love Letters or Just Desserts to providing holiday cheer during the annual Holiday Stroll at the Village Shops.

More theater news in Canton MA! This show was supposed to open on February 8th but the blizzard forced them to cancel the first weekend of performances.
Canton Community Theatre (CCT) is giving the people of Canton their "Just Desserts" this weekend and next. Their most recent production was written in part by longtime CCT members Kathy Fox Alfano and Renee Hanscom, with contributions from other cast members.

Last year Canton High Drama started the tradition of performing a children's musical. Their production of "Free to Be You and Me" was a big success last spring and so the tradition continues this year.
This year, the Canton High School Drama Club is proud to present its Second Annual Children's Musical. "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" will be performed on Friday, May 18th at 9:30 am and on Saturday May 19th at 2:00 pm at Canton High's Morse Auditorim.

Canton MA Dancers Bring Home the Gold Twenty two Canton MA dancers from the Hazel Boone Dance Studio recently competed in the Dance Ovations competition held in nearby Norwood MA and brought home the Gold to Canton. Teen dancers competed with their jazz number to "Footloose", their ballet routine from "Pirates of the Carribean" and their tap routine to "I've Got Rhythm" from the movie "An American in Paris." It is time once again for Annual Town Meeting in Canton MA. Call me a geek, a political junkie or someone who needs to get a life....but I look forward to it every year!
For those who do not know, Canton MA has an Open Town Meeting form of government. There is a five-member Board of Selectmen who run the town and oversee the town administrator, but the legislative body is made up of the citizens of Canton. All registered voters in Canton MA are eligible to attend and vote at the Annual Town Meeting.

One of the nice things about living in a smaller town like Canton MA are the annual traditions. Now that the cool crisp air of fall is returning and Halloween is approaching, it is time once again for the annual Halloween parade through Canton center. The Canton Youth Basketball Association is a non is a not-for-profit organization. According to their website, their goal is to provide an opportunity for Canton youth in grades 4 through 8 an opportunity to develop their baseketball skills in a positive environment. On September 24 and 25, the Life is Good Festival returns to Canton MA for the second year is a row. Last year's was a big success. Canton MA Concludes Successful Music Camp
The Canton MA Performing Arts Department held a two-week music camp for middle-school aged students. Run by high school and middle school music teachers, high school musicians also helped out and provided leadership.
The two week program gave budding musicians a chance to practice their skills and also learn some new ones. The camp ended with a rousing performance this past Thursday to the delight of the parents of the campers. Students took part in some or all of the camp programs, which included Concert Band, Jazz Band and Strings.

Canton MA is home to one of the oldest family-owned dance studio in the country - the Hazel Boone Dance Studios. The Hazel Boone Studios celebrated 100 years of dance education last year and they are now finishing up their 101st year. The studio was started by Miss Hazel Boone in 1910. Upon her death her daughter, Sandra Philpott, took over the studio. Upon her retirement in 1996, Miss Boone's granddaughter, Holly Costa took over the role as director.
