Time for Reflection - 11/30/09 03:54 PM
As 2009 quickly draws to a close, today offers a special time for reflection.  Taking time to count our blessings and consider our failures, creates a wonderful opportunity for reflection and personal growth.
Any time you reach for new heights personally or professionally, it can be painful.  How you handle change depends greatly upon where you set your mind.  You can be discouraged or inspired by change, it's a choice.
As we head into another challenging year, it's important to prepare our minds and renew our spirit in a positive way.  One of the best ways that I've found to reflect upon my blessings and the opportunities before me is to view this … (7 comments)

The Blind Side - A Heart-Warming Story - 11/29/09 10:16 PM
The Blind Side - A Heart-Warming Story.  Based on a true story, "The Blind Side" is a movie about a homeless African-American youngster, Michael Oher, who is taken in by the Tuohys, a well-to-do white family who helps him fulfill his greatest potential.
This is truly a triumpant story about a young man who is blessed with an opportunity to rise above his unfortunate circumstances and go all the way to the top to become an All-American offensive left tackle, and eventually a round one draft pick in the NFL.
I am not usually a big fan of sports-type movies, but this heart-warming, inspirational story will literally hit you on your blind side … (6 comments)

Blame it on the Blog - 11/28/09 06:42 PM
So, I must confess, today I had to blame it on the blog!  As some of you may know, it it easy to become a little obsessive and compulsive about blogging.  It sometimes consumes your every thought.  And, it can at times, make you late for certain events.  Today was one of those times.
I needed to send a letter by Fed-x to someone in San Diego.  I figured I had plenty of time to do so.  I continued to blog about events in Grants Pass Oregon and I seriously lost track of time.  Once I realized it was 3:30pm, I started calling around for … (46 comments)

Western Bagel - Southern California - 11/27/09 09:18 PM
Today, I visited Western Bagel, one of my favorite places in Southern California!  Any time I'm visiting Los Angeles, I make a special point of patroning this family owned business.
They offer a wide variety of bagels to choose from.  I love their sprouted whole wheat bagels and Hawaiian Hazelnut coffee.  My other favorite bagels are onion and cinnamon raisin.  Let's not forget the yummy cream cheese too!
If you're ever in Southern California, be sure to visit Western Bagel and enjoy a bagel.  You'll love em!

A Brief History of Thanksgiving - 11/24/09 05:36 PM
A Brief History of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving Day is now a favorite American holiday...but did you know it took awhile to catch on as an annual tradition?
According to scholars, the first known Thanksgiving took place on September 8, 1565 in Saint Augustine, Florida when Spanish settlers held a Mass of Thanksgiving after arriving safely in the New World. English settlers in the Virginia Colony held a similar day of thanks in 1619. Two years after that, the colonists at Plymouth Plantation celebrated the most famous Thanksgiving, during 1621.
It wasn't until October 3, 1789, that it actually became a holiday, when then President George Washington … (13 comments)

The Evolution of the Virtual Culture - 11/23/09 02:06 AM
The Evolution of the Virtual Culture.
An interesting commentary was recently written by James A. Crumbaugh III, CEO of Allison James Estates and Homes, and published by RIS Media.  Here is what James had to say about the evolution of the virtual culture.
I recently returned from the NAR National Convention in San Diego, California, a convention that had a feel of celebration.  I believe that's because every one of the 19,000 attendees is a survivor of the past three years of the worst economic and real estate crisis this country has seen in 80 years.
For me, the experience was one of confirmation of … (6 comments)

Coffee Girl - Astoria Oregon - 11/18/09 03:16 AM
Coffee Girl - Astoria Oregon.  Many people who know me, know that I am a huge coffee lover.  From the first time  I visited Portland Oregon in 1987, I fell in love with the atmosphere and ambiance of Oregon's coffee houses.  Little did I know then, that I would eventually move from  southern California to southern Oregon.
It's been 10 years since I walked into the Dutch Bros Coffee House in Grants Pass Oregon for the first time.  The atmosphere was a bit funky and eclectic, but nonetheless warm and inviting.  After tasting a Dutch Bros mocha, triple shot topped with whip cream, I knew I was hooked.  It … (3 comments)

Cause for Pause - The Superman Slide - 11/17/09 01:17 AM
Cause for Pause.  As I was walking to the Grants Pass MLS office, which is located only a few short steps away from my office, I had a cause for pause.  You see, there is a resident homeless man who camps out on the side porch of our local MLS office.  As I was walking on the sidewalk, he called out to me saying; "Watch your step, you don't want to trip, like the last time."
Initially, his comments startled me as I didn't see him right away.  My next reaction was to focus on the sidewalk which was barely visible this time of year due to the fallen leaves from … (14 comments)

How Grants Pass, Oregon - Got It's Name - 11/14/09 04:16 AM

How Grants Pass, Oregon - Got It's Name.  Grants Pass is a quaint Oregon town nestled between two mountain ranges (Cascades & Siskiyous) in the Pacific Northwest, approximately 55 miles north of the California border.  In the 1860's, Grants Pass was called "Louse Creek."  The locals had petitioned the U.S. Post Office to establish a local post office (at that time, residents had to travel 17 miles to pick-up their mail).  They didn't think the name "Louse Creek" would draw people to the area, so they decided to name it "Grant" in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant.  However, they were told to choose a new name, as there was already … (6 comments)

The Grants Pass, Oregon Caveman - A Bit of History - 11/14/09 03:44 AM

The statue was erected in 1971 by the Grants Pass Caveman Club.  The group was formed by local business people in 1922 to boost awareness about the town of Grants Pass and the nearby Oregon Caves.  It is said that the local business people wore shaggy animal skins to welcome such visiting dignitaries as John F. … (7 comments)

She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes - 11/10/09 11:34 PM
She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes!  The title of this blog comes from a lovely keepsake book about friendship, written by Kay Shanley.  However, it represents a much deeper meaning for me, and one that has withstood the test of time.
When I was 11 years old, my mother taught me how to eat artichokes.  It may seem like a simple task for any parent to teach a child.  But coming from a young single mother of two, stricken with Multiple Sclerosis, simple every day tasks were quite a battle.
I am not sure how my mother came to love artichokes, or how she learned to cook and eat them.  But, I … (13 comments)

Here's how to get started.  Categorize your blogs by creating a few simple titles (i.e. Funny, Inspirational, Sights To See, etc.) in a word processing program.  Then copy and paste the url of your favorite posts under each category title (this is a little time consuming at first, but … (49 comments)

Character Counts - Curing Your Victimitis - 11/09/09 02:24 PM

Practice What You Preach - With Great Pictures! - 11/07/09 06:12 PM

Because the end result of a staged home can be a great visual impression, home staging is seen as an image industry. Invasion of the Body Snatchers - It's Not What You Think! - 11/03/09 01:41 AM

In the 80's, I worked for a large insurance firm, who had announced that with the advent of fax machines, we would soon be a paperless society.  Not sure what paper they were smoking, but here we are 20+ years later, and still buried in paperwork.  … (3 comments)
