Talk To The Hand... I'm Not Listening! - 04/29/11 01:22 PM
Talk To The Hand... I'm Not Listening!  I'm certain we've all been in situations where we tried making a point to someone and we felt like we were talking to the hand.  Silence is a form of communication, but many 'salespeople' often miss the signals.  Not this gal.
In anticipation of a difficult negotiation, and knowing I would most likely be talking to the hand, I examined (ahead of time) what my response would be to such resistance.  I considered (ahead of time) how badly I wanted to make the deal happen.  I weighed (ahead of time) my losses.  I was clearly prepared to face the hand.
Mental preparedness is critical in any negotiation.  … (14 comments)

Good Morning Sunshine! I've Been Missing You... - 04/28/11 01:44 PM
Good Morning Sunshine!  I've been missing you... but I'm glad you've decided to pay me a visit.
You've been a little distant lately... what's up with that?!  I won't hold it against ya.  My welcome mat is still on the porch awaiting your grand arrival.  Forgive me if I don't leave the light on for you... I'm hoping your most excellent rays will guide you to my door.
I'm very excited to see you.  In celebration of your visit, I"ll be whipping up a batch of something special just for you.  You can count on it being warm, sweet and yummy!  You know there's always something good brewing at the Cafe.  See you … (8 comments)

The 24-Hour Rule... - 04/27/11 04:08 PM
The 24-Hour Rule...  I've been practicing the 24-Hour Rule for decades and it works beautifully.  For the most part, it has saved me from the embarrassment of saying or doing something that I might regret in an emotionally charged situation.
Here's how the 24-Hour Rule works:  If someone pisses in your cheerios, don't respond directly to that person for 24-Hours.  It's okay to rant to a neutral 3rd party, but not to anyone who is closely tied to the situation... and especially refrain from any online rants (as they become a permanent record).
Typically, you won't feel as emotionally charged the next day.  However, in rare cases (after applying the 24-Hour Rule), … (19 comments)

Are You Running From Mediocrity? If Not, You Should Be. - 04/25/11 07:33 PM
Are you running from mediocrity?  If not, you should be.
No more are the days of easy sales combined with ordinary service.  Expectations are on the rise and our performance should be as well.  ‘Getting by' is simply not a sufficient state of mind or being... it's ordinary and less than.  Times like these demand the extraordinary.
If your current state of mind is wearing you down, perhaps it's time for a pep talk.  Albert Einstein said the definition of insanity... is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  Profound.
Are you running from mediocrity?  If not, … (4 comments)

Gallivanting Off To LA For Some Much Needed R & R... - 04/20/11 02:09 AM
Gallivanting Off To LA For Some Much Needed R & R... It's been three months since I've seen my 2-yr old grand-daughter... and I'm going through withdrawals.  So, I'm headed off to the sunshine state today for a little R & R.

Celebrating Easter with this cute little bunny should be a hopping good time!  Isn't she a cutie patootie?!  Of course, I'm a little prejudice!

As They Ride Off Into Their Delusional Sunset... - 04/16/11 11:57 PM
As They Ride Off Into Their Delusional Sunset... I'm patting myself on the back.  For what, you might ask?  For standing up for myself and saying NO.  Saying NO to what?  Saying NO to a bad business decision.
Have you ever worked with a seller who was completely delusional about their asking price?  Or perhaps a buyer who wanted you to drive them around for three days looking at 50 properties when they haven't bothered to get pre-approved.  You were so excited to get the call, that you never asked yourself the important question... Is this a good business decision?  Absolutely NOT!
How do you define good business decisions?  Here's a barometer … (62 comments)

Great Leaders Are Made, Not Born... - 04/13/11 10:53 PM
Great Leaders Are Made, Not Born... a great quote from Colin Powell... and I tend to agree.  The General said it best in an article that appeared first in Network World, December 21, 1998 and again in the The Journal of Accountancy June, 1999.
"The Eight Universal Laws of Leadership"
Maintain absolute integrity.  Leadership is a trust. If others don't trust you completely, they will not follow you in every instance.
Know your stuff.  If you're a leader, those that would follow you don't care two straws about whether you're good at office politics or not. They want you to be competent.  That's what counts … (25 comments)

Chillin in my Comfy, Cozy Office... Check it Out! - 04/11/11 07:52 PM
Chillin in my Comfy, Cozy Office... Check it Out!  Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to chill in a comfy, cozy atmosphere.  And, where there's music, mochas and interesting conversation... I'm there.
Since I spend the majority of my day at the office, it's important to me that my surroundings are pleasing to the senses.  Here's the view inside my door... along with smooth jazz playing in the background and the fresh aroma of coffee brewing in our cafe... This is my home away from home and it sure feels good!

Even the Easter Bunny loves to chill at the Real Estate Cafe!

Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be... - 04/10/11 03:04 PM
Congressional Reform Act of 2011 - As It Should Be...
Of the 27 Amendments to the Constitution, seven took 1 year or less to become the law of the land... all because of public pressure. The 26th Amendment (granting 18 year-olds the right to vote) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple... 'We The People' demanded it. That was 1971... before computers, before e-mail and before cell phones.

Let's see what 'We The People' of The United States of America can do with this message...

I Specialize in Helping Distressed PEOPLE! - 04/08/11 06:48 PM
I Specialize in Helping Distressed PEOPLE!  When the Certified Distressed Property Expert Designation came into being a few years ago for Realtors, I had some issues with it.  First... properties aren't typically distressed... people are.  Second, I never like to refer to myself as an 'Expert' on anything.  It's a pretty tall title and one that comes with great responsibility.
I Specialize in Helping Distressed PEOPLE!  Most seller's, who are in financial trouble, didn't get there because their property became a problem.  Most seller's, who are in financial trouble, got there because of lost jobs, failed businesses, over-spending, and the like.  Existential circumstances were the cause, and 'distress' became … (7 comments)

Adzookie.com Is Offering To Pay Your Mortgage! - 04/07/11 11:13 PM
Adzookie.com Is Offering To Pay Your Mortgage!  Mobile advertising company, Adzookie.com, is offering to paint your home with some flashy colors in exchange for some greenbacks to pay your mortgage.  Sounds like a catchy 21st Century ad campaign...
Truth is, Adzookie.com is serious!  They'll splash some interesting colors on your home and will pay your mortgage payment for every month you allow the advertisement to remain.  According to the Wall Street Journal, many folks are jumping at the chance to participate.  The company had over 3000 applicants in one day!
There are a few rules to qualify:  You must own the home, you must commit to a minimum 3 month contract and you can extend the … (10 comments)

Are You Simply Irreplaceable? - 04/05/11 01:22 PM
Are You Simply Irreplaceable?  It's a question that begs an answer in any profession today.  If you were to lose your job, there would more than likely be a ton of people standing in line around the block waiting to apply for your position... 13.5 million unemployed people to be exact.
Which is why you need to be simply irreplaceable.  Are you going above and beyond in serving your clients?  Are you taking initiative and being intuitive when it comes to providing solutions?  Are you willing to go the distance and work extra hours (sometimes for the same or less pay) in order to serve … (5 comments)

Oh My Aching... - 04/04/11 12:45 PM
Oh My Aching... fill in the blank.  For me, it's my aching neck.  Yesterday was a lovely sunshine-filled day and I couldn't let it slip away without pulling some weeds in my yard.  It felt good to get a little exercise while taking in some rays under gorgeous blue skies.
Winter seems to be lingering in Southern Oregon, even though Spring officially claimed it's name on March 20.  The only true sign of Spring are the gorgeous daffodils that surround my real estate office.  The rest of the real estate market is still waking up from a long winter's nap.
For some folks, it's their pocket books that … (4 comments)

What's Love Got To Do With It... - 04/01/11 01:48 PM
What's Love Got To Do With It...  not a whole lot in my book, but you be the judge.
Fortunately for me, my agents provide me with a lot of material to blog about.  One agent in particular is my best subject.  For the sake of protecting that Agent's identity, I shall refer to that agent as ET in the masculine.  ET is well aware that I'm writing about him, so no worries.
ET is a knowledgeable and likeable agent.  ET shows up to work early everyday and is the last one to leave.  ET always answers his cell phone and when unavailable, returns … (10 comments)
