Happiness comes in a Pink Box! - 03/31/12 10:53 AM
Happiness comes in a Pink Box!  Recently, Alan May wrote a cutesy putesy blog about the latest craze... a Cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills, CA.  Being the cupcake connoisseur that I am, I had to go there and experience a little divinity for myself.  It was everything I imagined and more!
A line of curious cupcake fans  formed outside the Sprinkles Cupcakes store on Santa Monica Blvd. as cupcake connoisseurs waited with baited breath to test out the new cupcake ATM.  I couldn't help but video my experience (as promised... Alan... now if I could only get it downloaded from my phone!) so you could get a first-hand glimpse of the … (30 comments)

I LOVE Happy Short Sale Endings! - 03/29/12 05:22 PM
I LOVE Happy Short Sale Endings!  This Oregon Short Sale was a bit of doozy.  Mostly because it was a very rural property consisting of 2 homes and a shop on 50+ acres in Glendale, Oregon.  Because the land was more valuable than the structures, it was nearly impossible to obtain buyer financing, with the exception of a hard money loan.  Trying to find an all cash buyer for this Oregon property was like trying to find a needle in haystack.  We knew we needed a miracle.
A Miracle Indeed.  After several months of marketing this Oregon property, along came an all cash buyer, and she was totally patient too!  As most … (22 comments)

Yes They're Fake... My Real Ones Tried to Kill Me! - 03/26/12 04:25 PM
These past couple of months have been tough, really tough.  My tenacious spirit has been stretched beyond my limits.  I've been knocked down, defeated, and I've even felt depressed at times, which is just not me.  And while I wouldn't invite such troubles into my life, they've managed to slip through an open door without my consent.  My human frailty has risen to the top like cream and it's spilling over into every area of my life.
Last week, I was on needles and pins.  After my biopsy, it was time to drive back from CA to Oregon for a quiet reprieve.  I've always found comfort in familiarity.  My surroundings bring me a sense of peace, and my cushy … (119 comments)

Needles & Pins - 03/22/12 05:27 PM
Sometimes, circumstances throw me into song. This week, it was an oldie but a goodie... Needles & Pins.  Everything seemed to be going as planned.  I approached a room with white walls, it was sterile and cold.  The bed was situated in the middle of the room and the mood felt dreary and uninviting.
My eyes focused on a tray layered with six syringes.  I knew they were for me.  I layed down, closed my eyes and began singing the tune in my head, Needles & Pins.  I imagined myself laying on a beach being warmed by sunny skies with palm trees gently blowing in the wind.  It was peaceful.  At least until I felt the cold gel on my … (34 comments)

The Wizard Behind the Curtain - 03/14/12 05:41 PM
The Wizard Behind the Curtain.  Our worlds collided in the Rain a little over 2 years ago.  We exchanged niceties, mixed with humor and wit, and an occasional jib for jab in the Active Rain combox of life.  And before long, our virtual exchanges blossomed into a friendship between colleagues in the real world.  He's become a friend indeed... to a friend in need.  Allow me to introduce you to a fabulous human being...
Brian L. Sirota, Esq.  He's not one to take center stage or tout his accolades, although he has plenty.  At the risk of taking 50 lashes with a wet noodle, I'd like to share some of Brian's lovely attributes with you, and … (48 comments)

Streakin' Thru The Blogosphere - 03/08/12 12:34 PM
Streakin' Thru The Blogosphere.  When I was three years old, my inquisitive nature led me on a joy-ride through the streets of the San Fernando Valley on my red tricycle.  When the police found me, I was butt naked.  I've always wondered how they managed to find where I lived and return me home safely.
In my later years, I quietly observed the world from the sidelines.  I had a curiosity for people, places and things.  I watched as others shook the apple tree, while I stood by and enjoyed the fallen fruit from my obscure corner of the world.  Life seemed easy, breezy, peasy when I put on my rose colored glasses.  As the years went by, my dreams … (28 comments)

OMG... The Joke's on Me - 03/03/12 11:52 AM
OMG... The Joke's on Me.  I had a little OMG moment last night when I received an anonymous not-so-nice email from a Realtor in my neck of the woods.  Currently, I'm the President of my local MLS Association, and we recently notified our members of an upcoming fee increase.  As a result, I've been receiving some unpleasant emails from Realtors who are understandably a little peeved.  Here's the latest:
'So you think you can get away with raising our dues, huh?  Who put you in charge anyway?  I'm pretty sure that most of you guys are all from California and think us real Oregonians can't figure out what is going … (37 comments)

Slaying Dragons with a Smile! - 03/01/12 06:32 PM
Slaying Dragons with a Smile!  Recently, a fellow cohort, Susan Tokarz-Krauss, asked the question... 'What have you been up to Mel?'  My reply... 'I've been guarding the drawbridge, declaring war, slaying dragons and giving notice to the next of kin while burying the dead.  Would you care to join me?'

Melinda Peterson - President of GPMLS & Susan Tokarz-Krauss - President of GPAR
It's not an easy task to manage a successful real estate brokerage while presiding as President of the Grants Pass Multiple Listing Service.  Add a serious health condition to that equation, along with a few wicked dragons, and you have a mock cocktail that potentially spells disaster.  But... not for this … (28 comments)
