Making a Dent - 04/29/12 12:02 PM
Making a dent.  This morning, as I was sitting in my car in the drive-through line at the Dutch Bros Coffee House in Grants Pass, a random thought occurred to me... I wanted to pay for the coffee for the people in the car behind me.  I told the Barista what I wanted to do and he smiled and said okay.
When I arrived home, I opened my email and there was a quote from Seth Godin saying; 'Are you making a dent in the Universe?'  I chuckled.  Perhaps I made a very small insignificant dent in someone's world this morning by buying them coffee, but … (24 comments)

Celebrate Earth Day at Dutch Bros! - 04/22/12 01:55 PM
Celebrate Earth Day at Dutch Bros!  There's a party going on at the Dutch Bros Coffee stands around the Pacific Northwest today.  In celebration of Earth Day, Dutch Bros will discount your coffee drink by $1.00 if you bring your own mug!
I had a conversation with the Baristas behind the counter this morning, and I asked them what Earth Day meant to them.  'Recycling and being kind to the planet,' was their response.  I smiled, and thought, these kids really have it all together.
While I've been a minimalist for most of my life, living in the country, growing my own fruits … (14 comments)

You're a Murderer! - 04/20/12 07:51 PM
You're a Murderer!  I will never forget those words for as long as I live.  I was in a Southern California hospital when I heard a male voice screaming at the top of his lungs... You're a Murderer.  The voice was angry and desperate and seemed oddly familiar to me... it was my brother.
The Fall of 1995 had been a trying time for us.  My brother and I had been camped out in the Intensive Care Unit for over a month.  Our Mother was admitted to the hospital with Pancreatitis just  30 days earlier.  Sadly, as a result of hospital negligence, our Mother ended up in the ICU on a respirator, … (33 comments)

Ruthie in the Sky with Diamonds! - 04/17/12 05:49 PM
Ruthie in the Sky with Diamonds!  Our paths crossed in the virtual world a few years ago.  I was searching keywords for Grants Pass Oregon when I stumbled upon a most interesting blog.  After reading a few lines, I knew I had to do something.
Ruthie is a 55 yr old professional hitchhiker.  She's traveled around North America for over 18 years hitching rides from strangers.  She's an educated soul and she writes with heartfelt imagination, drawing you into her world of fascinating faces and places.  I was touched by her honest mutterings.
Ruthie's travels led her through Grants Pass, but not without incident.  She was turned away by a local … (29 comments)

I'm Gonna Throw Out My Raincoat... - 04/16/12 07:30 PM
I'm Gonna Throw Out My Raincoat.  I hope it's all right.  I'm gonna find me a rainbow and hang it up in the sky.

It's raining in the Pacific Northwest.  I guess I can't complain... it's so green and beautiful here ;)  When the sun goes missing for weeks at a time, we find ourselves delighting in simple pleasures, like this song.  I'm gonna find me a rainbow and hang it up in the sky, until the blues pass me by!

The Happy Naked Blogger! - 04/13/12 05:36 PM
The Happy Naked Blogger.  It doesn't take much to make this Naked Blogger happy... I'm a simple gal who delights in simple things.  Today, one of those simple things arrived in the mail.
I'm all smiles on this rainy Friday the 13th and here's why... I received a yellow 'Happy Face' T-Shirt from the ActiveRain Staff.  It was accompanied by a short but sweet message that read:
'Whenever you're feeling blue, throw this on and smile.  Love, ActiveRain'
Hey... I think the ActiveRain Staff has  been reading my blog :)))  Most of you know that these past few months have been pretty tough for me physically.  I've been on needles and pins … (40 comments)

Some Bunny Loves You! - 04/08/12 01:38 PM
Some Bunny Loves You!  Easter brings a special meaning for many.  For some, it's about chocolate bunnies.  For others, it's about hiding and finding pretty colored eggs.  And for many, it's about dressing up in spring dresses donned with adorable hats/bonnets and matching shoes while family and friends gather for fellowship and worship.
For this Chicky, Easter is about love... the most indescribable love imaginable, a love that transcends people, places and things.  A loves that is unearned, undeserved and totally unconditional.  It's a love so deep, so accepting, and so unwavering that it's humanly impossible to fully understand or explain.
Every Easter, I'm reminded of that love when I think about a cobblestone road I walked in … (14 comments)

Trashing Trust - 04/05/12 05:04 PM
Trashing Trust.  People often say... 'Trust me.'  Yet, it seems to be those very individuals who do things that violate our trust.  After repeat offenses, it's easy to become jaded and skeptical of those individuals.  So, how do we forgive those who have trashed our trust?
I've spent a lifetime forgiving those who have violated my trust.  From the babysitter who sexually abused me when I six, to the step-father who beat me for sport, to a brother who needed anger management counseling, to a landlord who screwed me on a commercial lease, and more recently, to a few colleagues who thought nothing of taking my intellectual property and using it without my permission... and … (26 comments)

Monday Morning Moves with Mel - 04/02/12 12:05 PM
Monday Morning Moves with Mel.  This morning, I felt inspired to shake a little booty before work.  I jumped out of bed, put on some work-out gear, along with my iPod and did a little Zumba for 20 minutes.  Sometimes, I surprise myself... that I can still shake a leg at fifty ;)
I've always loved to dance.  When I was 8 years old, my mother signed me up for a water ballet class at a public pool.  I had no idea there was such a thing as dancing to music in water.  The moves were synchronized with rhythm and waves, and I loved it.
Next came... tap, jazz and ballet lessons.  … (19 comments)
