You don’t need much help to grow lush green grass here in the Middle Rio Grande Valley. We have the sun 300+ days per year, the sandy loam topsoil, and the water. Water is the most important ingredient here in the high desert where rainfall is scarce, on average only 8 inches per year. The water for our farms comes from the Rio Grande, which is fed by last winter’s mountain snow flowing downriver. Dammed and partially diverted at a number of points north and south of Albuquerque, it flows into the ditches and floods our fields. All you need to do

green: Go Green, Get Greenbacks Back! - 07/03/08 01:53 PM
Here in Albuquerque, utility companies are encouraging consumers to go green in the most powerful way: by talking directly to our wallets! Here are some examples: PNM (Public Service Company of New Mexico) wants to help keep those old refrigerators out of the landfills, while simultaneously encouraging the use of more energy-efficient models. Many construction materials exchanges and thrift shops welcome salvaged materials that are in good condition, and schools and clubs can often use such materials for theater sets, shop classes, and projects. Items you may be able to donate include: wood flooringcabinetrybath fixtures such as sinks, tubs, and toiletslighting fixturesdoorsbrick and stonelumberResources for donating used materials include Habitat for Humanity, whose ReStore projects specializes in just this

green: Adobe: "Green," Eco-Friendly Construction That's Cheap as Dirt! - 05/14/07 08:40 PM
Tomorrow's eco-friendly miracle construction material may also be yesterday's, and it can be as cheap as dirt because it's made of dirt! In a word, it's ADOBE!This miracle, green, construction material is as ideal for the earth homes of tomorrow as it has been for hundreds of years at Taos Pueblo in northern New Mexico...in fact, it's durability can be demonstrated by one look at the Great Wall of China, as Jackie Craven points out in her guide to Earth Houses! Here in New Mexico, adobe homes have been common for hundreds of years. Adobe is not just an architectural style, it's
