rural: Bosque Farms Basics - 07/26/10 02:04 PM
Bosque Farms is in the middle of the high desert of New Mexico. The long trump suit in our playing hand is the Rio Grande River, which forms our western border. Without irrigation water from the river and occasional help from above, our verdant lawns, gardens, pastures and fields of grass and alfalfa hay would dry up. Water is of paramount importance to our farming community. Bosque Farms' motto is “Preserving Rural America,” and at our house we’ve done our best since 1991.  We are Brian and Laura Warden of choicesrealestate.com in Albuquerque.

rural: St. Louis for lovers of all things rural - 07/18/07 02:07 PM
I'm a country boy at heart, and as such, I love all things rural. So what would there be to interest me in St. Louis, Missouri?
The answer is, a lot!
St. Louis boasts an incredible number of resources for anyone wanting to get out and enjoy the outdoors, and has some of the most wonderful scenic areas and wildlife you'll find anywhere. While there are far too many options to mention in a short post, here are just a few:
The Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is a 4318-acre urban conservation area that includes a view of the confluence of the Missouri, Missippi rivers, … (0 comments)

rural: Keeping Bosque Farms Rural and Horse-Friendly - 05/08/07 11:54 AM
Bosque Farms has always been an agricultural and very horse-friendly community...but this once sleepy, rural little town has recently begun transforming into a primarily residential area that is mixed with agriculture, and this has been a concern for many long-time residents
You've probably seen this happen elsewhere; it's typical for folks to flee the crowded urban scene to pursue their vision of a bucolic lifestyle. But their vision often doesn't include roosters crowing at dawn, farmers baling hay in the wee small hours, or, especially, the smell of manure! So they go to work exercising the force of their incoming numbers to try … (6 comments)

rural: Feelin' Edgy? Escape to Edgewood! - 05/04/07 04:51 PM
Edgewood is a fantastic little town just 20 minutes east of the major metropolitan area of Albuquerque, yet light-years away from city headaches and congestion.
In recent years, Edgewood has grown rapidly, as easy commuting along I-40, the cooler weather on the east side of the mountains, and the availability of acreage for horse-keeping, gardening, or just plain privacy have prompted many former Albuquerque residents to move to the "green side."  Yet the thriving little community maintains a dedication to old-fashioned values and a rural and small town lifestyle! The community's website proclaims a dedication to four basic values:
Individual private property rights … (0 comments)

rural: What makes Bosque Farms a great place to live? - 03/24/07 04:12 PM
My wife, Laura, and I have lived in Bosque Farms, for many years, and have found it a great place to raise a family.
Where else in the Albuquerque area do local residents preserve an old-fahioned, annual Community Fair, complete with family-friendly activities like a greased-pole contest, rodeo, and talent show? This generations-old community tradition offers plenty of opportunities for local kids to show their rabbits, sheep, poultry, and other farm animals; to exhibit and win blue ribbons for their art work, baking, garden produce, or canned goods; to dig for coins in the money pit or enjoy Sno-cones or hot dogs while … (0 comments)
