Freddie Mac reported that mortgage rates edged up 10 basis points last week. The 30 year rate jumped from 3.88 to 3.98, the first such increase following a few weeks of record lows. It's hard to sy at this point if this is a trend or an anomoly but it's worth watching. I think we all realize that they had to hit bottom at some point in time. The question now is will they continue their upward climb. If you are considering buying a home, this is something to keep an eye on!

Great news for buyers of homes for sale in Maricopa Arizona and elsewhere! In spite of all the media hype and doomsayers predicting higher mortgage rates on the way, the 30-year fixed mortgage averaged 3.91 percent (0.8 point) for the week ending January 5, 2012. That’s down from 3.95 percent the previous week and matches the record low set just two weeks earlier. Obviously rates cannot drop much further and yes, eventually they will go up. mortgage rates: Mortage Rates Hit a New Low

According to the GSE’s nationwide market study, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.94 percent (0.8 point) for the week ending December 15th, matching its all-time record low previously set on October 6, 2011. The 30-year rate slipped 5 basis points from last week’s average of 3.99 percent. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate was at 4.83 percent. The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage came in a 3.21 percent (0.8 point) this week. That marks a new record low, besting the previous low of 3.26 percent recorded on October 6, 2011.
