brokerage: Who's First? Real Living - 03/25/08 12:17 PM
Who's First.... Real Living Is Real Living is a progressive company and a brokerage striving to be FIRST. I've had the fortune of witnessing this effort first hand and thought this would be a great opportunity to air my viewpoint and stake our claim as "the first" in these categories. I'll go through these. 1997 - Real Living, then HER Realtors, created the first help desk for agents and consumers to utilize for home related services and discounts. It was known as HOME (Home Ownership Made Easy) and eventually evolved into the first utility connection company to be known as JumpHome.com. Unfortunately,

brokerage: The Power of Now - 12/30/07 07:23 PM
How we view time can influence how time impacts our lives and our business. For some time is a straight line, one foot infront of the other, one hour after another, and so on....For others time is a cumulative process, a gathering of experience, process, and years, which then generates who we are and how we are in the world. Then there is a way of stepping outside of time, releasing from the confines of the linear line and the weight of gathering....This way is achieved through the practice of living in the Now. A great resource for this process is the

brokerage: A New World takes hold - Zolve it! - 12/21/07 08:13 PM
Come Visit this community for Real Estate Agents et al.......It's a grass roots and growing global in a hurry referral based networking group and some interesting people are sharing there.....come take a look! My sense is that this community has a real emphisis on REFERRALS and building an active network which promotes that part of our business. It may vary from ActiveRain which has different roots..but let's see where it goes. I don't see it as competition but more like another avenue, another cookie on the tray. for NOW - Brad in Connecticut

brokerage: Where the Opportunities Roam....... - 12/17/07 06:08 PM
Sometimes we forget that everyday is rife with opportiunities. Remember, luck favors the prepared (and awake). In this market I tell my agents, and walk this talk myself, to look beyond the MLS for their next sale and for their next buyer. I'm not saying don't look at the MLS, that's where most of the properties have traditionally shown themselves and we can look into many cues that the MLS can give to find that good deal for our buyers and investors. But the real deals are made by "fishing upstream". What does this mean? Go where everyone else isn't and find

brokerage: The Hard Facts - a real life foreclosure series - Part II - 12/14/07 05:15 PM
The Hard Facts - Part II - Making a plan for the future, when everything is falling apart, isn't an easy task. It takes a ton of skill to guide anyone through those waters, but doing it with someone who is about to lose their home takes it to a different level altogether. It had taken several days to gather all of the required documents for submitting an offer to the lender, an offer that was fair for the house but not enough to cover the debt and costs of a sale. The process went like this: I told Bob and Faith that

brokerage: The Hard Facts - a real life foreclosure series - 12/10/07 05:40 PM
The Hard Facts, Part I: The family had about 8 of those blow up Christmas ornaments in their yard when I got their, all bobbing in the breeze, and lending a surreal air to the coming experience. I was there to tell them that they had little choice but to start looking for another place to live. Their debt was more than the house was worth and, after exploring all of the other options, it looked like we would have to try and negotiate with the lender to discount the property so we could get it sold. We looked over the debt

brokerage: To Market to Market to Target a Market - 12/07/07 07:03 PM
Real Estate sales are tough sometimes and this market certainly has it's share of difficulties, here in Connecticut we've been experiencing the crunch. In my area, along the central Connecticut Shoreline, we've seen a dramatic decrease in the number of active agents, down as much as 30% from over a year ago. Although this may be a painful and potentially difficult transition for the exiting, it creates an opportunity for those of us staying in the business. But this is NOT the time for the agent to sit and wait for business (it never is anyway!), it is a GREAT time for the agent

brokerage: Seek First to Understand - 12/06/07 02:49 PM
Seek First to Understand In real estate it is imperative to understand our clients' needs, wants, and desires. We do this in a number of areas - data collection, consultation, and the physical experience of spending time with our client. Often there is a stumbling block along the way and sometimes it is right off the bat that we aren't connecting with our client, something is missing. Experience will show that the disconnect is usually a result of not fully understanding our client. When we practice understanding and deepening our understanding, it is important to pay attention to more than just the surface

brokerage: Attenion on Intention - 12/05/07 05:33 PM
There is so much to do and how easy it is for us, as RE professionals, to be dragged into the habit of doing the most urgent thing...perhaps not even our urgent thing but the urgent thing of a home seller or buyer, or an investor, or a colleague. But it grabs us and before you know it..bang! where did the day go? Or the week? Or Month......... So I've been applying some of Deepak's 7 Spiritual Laws of Success to my daily thinking. The one that I've been applying to this particular issue is that of "Attention to Intention". This requires a bit of preparation

brokerage: What a Wonderful World..... - 12/04/07 07:06 PM
So I have to ask....what's your worry? Right now we spend so much time trapped in the urgent nature of life..and things have sped up considerably. I consider one of the real challenges in this life to be the Art of Slowing Down. Try it sometime...when you feel yourself getting caught up in the "doin it doin it doin it" that Gerber talks about, try a simple process I call "remembering how to breathe".....(hint: it's a 2 step process). A longterm exercise but worth it (at least let's hope so!). Another practice, and this relates directly to real estate, is Covey's primary

brokerage: Working with Win-Win in mind.... - 12/04/07 08:38 AM
Real Estate is a funny beast....it brings out the best and the worst in people. We love our clients and hate them, they love us and hate us. Someone said to me recently, someone close to me but who is in another company "You are my competition"...a simple phrase but one I hear all too often in real estate because it takes us, as agents, out of our primary responsibility - Care, Loyalty, Obedience, Accounting, Disclosure....and puts us into the role of conquering hero....we beat the other agent, we beat up the seller, we snow the buyer, and at the end of the
