Back to work after Thanksgiving - 11/30/09 08:21 AM
i hope everyone had the kind of Thanksgiving that you hoped it would be.
Mine was the typical one where we went to a family members house along with about 20 other family.
On some local news, Delaware is trying to find a way to use the Delaware City refinery now that it is closing down.
My thinking is that Delaware and the federal government will end up spending tons of money to clean up all the toxic ground and air that they will surely find there, they should keep the refinery open with some type of government/private venture at least … (0 comments)

Eletric rates decline - 11/25/09 10:31 AM
It was announce today that electric rates for both Delaware Electric Cooperative and the city of Milford Delaware were reducing there electric rates.  Sometimes there are good things that come out our recession.  When I am able to get the rate reductions I wll pass that on.

Also Freddie Mac reports that average rates for 30-year fixed mortgages have matched a record low of 4.78 percent this week.  At the local Del One I was quoted a rate of 4.25 % for a 15 year fixed rate.  Wow

LEED Home at the Glade - 11/23/09 09:23 AM
I recently wrote about an open house that was to featured in Rehoboth.
As a follow up to that the home was built by Lewes based ECO Construction-Green Luxury that include landscaping, surfaces that prevent runoff, recylcled mareials and soy based insulation.  This is a LEED certified home.
At the Real Estate convention earlier this year, there was a class on green homes and this house was featured in the conversation.
On another followup, I sent some pictures of the Norester we had.  Here is another picture that I forgot about then.

Grren homes and other Delaware news - 11/20/09 08:44 AM
The State of Delaware is being asked to invest $350,000 from a start up company that will have operations in Wilmington.  Delawind is the company and Former LT Governot John Carney is the executive vice President.  The company would build the steel towers for ofshore wind turbines.  They are seeking the funds through Delaware's emerging technologies and pre-venture fund.  They are promising 560 new jobs.
From my perspective this a a fantastic idea for Delaware.  The wind farm that is in the process of being developed combined with the jobs and manufacturing of some of the components right here in Delaware.  … (0 comments)

National Real Estate news and Delaware news - 11/18/09 05:48 PM
According to the commerce department, construction of new homes and apartments fell over 10%.
Building permits fell 3%.
To me this was a given considering many people realized at that point that it was to late to take advantage of the $8000 tax credit not knowing if it would be extended.  We will see next month if the figures bounce back since the credit has been extended.
Developers that put Harrahs Chester casino together are buying property on Wilmington waterfront land with the contingency that Delaware State law will allow more casinos.
On another note, relating to  solar energy.  The university … (0 comments)

Here are some pictures that I took from what the storm did at Rehoboth Beach.
These were taken on the Northern end of the boardwalk 2 blocks from main street.  The Boardwalk was closed those 2 blocks.

The storm and other news - 11/16/09 11:10 AM
The storm that we had this past week and weekend was by far pretty bad.  There was much erosion at Rehoboth Beach and damage to the boardwalk.  My perspective is that the dunes that were created for potential storms did their job pretty good.  I must say that I was not a big advocate od the dunes that were built because they took away much of the view a visitor could have of the beach.  I am now a supporter of the dunes after seeing what damage they probably prevented.

On another note, from the stimulus money the Wilmington Housing … (2 comments)

Tax Credits for buying a home, Blue water bought by NRG - 11/09/09 02:13 PM
As most of you probably know by now, the first time home buyers tax credt was extended unitl June 1010.
On another note of Delaware importance:
Today, Bluewater wind was aquired by NRG energy.
This acquisition combines Bluewater’s strong projectpipeline of offshore wind parks in the northeast—one of NRG’s core regions—with NRG’s ownsuccessful development, engineering, procurement and construction teams. The transaction wasfunded with cash on hand, for an undisclosed sum.
For those Delaware citizens such I myself, this gives optimisum that Delaware will remain on track to have more non carbon related energy as a part of our futre electric supply.

Delaware News - 11/05/09 08:48 AM
My gut feeling is that it is not just Delaware, but it was reported today that less than 1/4 of students with access to the flu shots recieved them so far.  Many factors  could be the cuase including parents trying alternative ways to get their children's flu vaccine or it could be some parents are concerned about the mercury in shots and what it might do to the body.  Autism is skyrocketing and some say that mercury from shots is a possible cause.

On another topic, Delmarva power gave Bluewater an extension when they missed a deadline for a letter … (0 comments)

Tax Credits in Delaware for Geo Thermal heating - 11/04/09 10:36 AM
Below is a table for the available tac credtis for installing Geo Thermal heating.  I was told that Delaware also has credits offered through the utility companies for the same.
The Federal is 30% plus a State incentive, how can you beat that if you were planning on installing anyway.
This table was taken from 1st state hvac that told me I could use their web site as a reference.  As you can see it was taken from the State of Delaware information.

National Real Estate news - 11/02/09 09:31 AM
According to NAR, pending home sales increased in September for a 8th straight month in September.

The September Pending Home Sales Index from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) spiked 6.1% to 110.1, consolidating a 6.4% gain in August. It was the index's highest level since December 2006, when it stood at 112.8.
Most of the improvement has been traced to the $8000.00 tax break about to expire this month.
