Wow! what a Kick off, the first day of the annual AIRDRIE Home and Garden Fair held at the Twin Arenas in Airdrie Alberta was a Rip Roaring success.  Everything was kicked off by a Stampede style Chuck Wagon Breakfast in the company of Royalty.  The Calgary Stampede Queen and 2 Princesses,were present at the Breakfast, along with City, Provincial and Federal government dignitaries.

Residents gave Airdrie a 97 per cent rating for quality of life and the overall Citizen Satisfaction Index came out at 3.81, which is second highest in the survey's history to last year's 3.86 rating.   Also, 97 per cent of respondents considered Airdrie a safe place to live, which was the highest score in the municipal comparison group.  The results were put together from 400 telephone interviews between Jan. 5-9, 2009 by Bannister Research and Consulting Inc.

The value of construction in the City of Airdrie, Alberta dropped significantly in 2008, but the city still experienced the best year in its history in the commercial and industrial sectors.
The value of construction in Airdrie was $184 million in 2008, which is a sharp drop from $454 million in 2007 and $270.6 million in 2006. However, the value of construction last year was comparable to the $185 million in 2005.
“We had another very strong year in commercial and industrial construction,” said Airdrie building inspections team leader Darryl Poburan.
