airdrie: Airdrie InterCity Express on Hold - 09/23/10 03:11 AM
The city of Airdrie is rolling out it's enhanced bus service October 1, 2010, those enhancements will include new buses and peak morning and afternoon schedules.  Unfortunately the Airdrie InterCity express (ICE) is temporarily on hold after a flaw in the new articulated buses was discovered.

These new buses with diesel engines use a Urea additive to mix with the diesel fuel to reduce exhaust emissions.  It has been determined that  the caps on the Urea tanks are leaking vapors into the buses where they are crystalizing.  While the caps are really a small art of the busses systems the … (0 comments)

airdrie: Airdrie Land Annexation Information Night - 09/16/10 05:24 PM
Locals, surrounding  Airdrie and area filed into the Town and Country Centre
last week to hear about the City of Airdrie's annexation plans.  This meeting was designed to keep Airdrie residents and those in the MD of Rocky View that may be affected by expansion plans apprised of the annexation.
Taxation changes seemed to be top of mind by those attending, however, it appears that acreage owners need not  fear as there shouldn't be any change in the taxes unless the land usage changes.
This annexation is necessary for the growth of Airdrie, to support ad grow it's now  39,000 residents and plan … (0 comments)

airdrie: Airdrie YTD Sales Statistics - 09/11/10 09:13 AM
This has been an interesting year so far with plenty of opportunities for Seller and Buyer alike.    We have been fortunate in Alberta to have weathered the Housing Statrts storm and come out not only above most of the rest of Canada for Housiong Starts but even beat last years starts.
Resale homes have felt the cruch a bit from 2006 when homes were selling for well above list price in very short time frames. However, with approximately 5.5 months worth of inventory on the Airdrie market we are still in relatively good shape.  The careful buyer can find some real … (2 comments)

In a recent article in The Globe and Mail it was reported that; "Canadians looking for homes are used to visiting the industry-funded Realtor.ca to browse listings. But the brokerages feel the site lacks the advanced information features about specific neighbourhoods that are needed to deal with a slew of anticipated rivals, all of whom are investing heavily in technology to lure home buyers – and advertisers – away from the MLS."

Quoting  Cathy Lewis of Jencor Mortgage - Calgary

I have been getting lots of calls regarding a Mandatory 10% down payment that our Minister of Finance, James M. Flaherty spoke of in the fall.  It has not yet filtered down to the lenders or Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) in any way., but if he chooses restrict mortgage financing to 90% the banks and CMHC will certainly have to follow.  I talked to our representative at CMHC this morning and he says CMHC does not seem to be encouraging this in any way but they are certainly increasing the criteria … (3 comments)
