environment: A Close Encounter of the Green Kind - 09/20/10 07:38 PM
I'm lucky enough to live out in the country on 29.9 acres, with the part surrounding our house being in a very wild state. When I parked my car today, this guy was looking at me from the wall. I set him on some leaf litter and took this picture.
 

Jabba The Hutt? No, as you can likely tell from the pine needles, he was only about an inch and a half long - a common tree frog. It was nice to catch a picture of him, though, before he adjusted his camoflage to become part of the scenery.

environment: Cow Power!!! Electricity for 400 homes. - 09/11/09 08:25 PM
We have all heard of horsepower, but the farmer who rents the agricultural land on my property has gone one step further - cow power!(Photo credit: Richard Turtle)
He has installed a couple of methane digesters that take the waste from the cattle (cow poo) and turn it into methane which is used to run electricity generators.
Are you ready for this? - On this farm alone they will be able to generate enough power to meet the needs of about 400 homes!

environment: Doing Our Part with NAGAB - 01/28/09 07:27 PM
I think we are at a crossroads with respect to how we deal with environmental issues. The focus of our conversations now seems to be less about whether or not we need to do something, and more on how quickly we can make things happen and whether or not our actions can have an adequate effect before predictions such as those made in Gwynne Dyer's book, "Climate Wars" become unavoidable realities.
I imagine that my recommendation to become involved in NAGAB - the National Asssociation of Green Agents and Brokers -
