When You Hire Chris Ann Cleland to Sell Your Northern Virginia Home...
When a Northern Virginia home owner hires me to sell their property, there are many things going on, some behind the scenes, that they may not realize are happening to get their property sold.  We go over this stuff in the listing presentation, but once we've been through the paperwork to make the listing relationship official, all that marketing and planning we talked about seems to float right out their minds.  So here's what I do, broken into the life cycles of your listing.

chris ann cleland: Great Things Happen in Skook - 03/22/12 09:02 AM
Great Things Happen in Skook
My Dad and his family come from Pottsville, PA.  And since Mom had no siblings and her parents died before I even entered kindergarten, our family trips were always to Pottsville to see grandma, uncles, aunts and cousins.  And one of the first blogs I subscribed to here on Active Rain was Erica Ramus.  She's a Broker/Owner in Pottsville, PA.  Reading her blog makes me feel like I am always in touch with the family I have in Pottsville.
Well, when the opportunity presented itself to take a day trip to Pottsville with my cousin Patti, … (18 comments)

Chris Ann Cleland, Individual Top Producer for Long & Foster Gainesville for 2011
Why bury the lead?  That's what I learned in my journalism studies while attending George Mason University.  Today was Long & Foster REALTORS® Gainesville's annual awards breakfast.  Most people come for the breakfast prepared by the omelet chef.  Competitive folks like me want to find out who did what in production and celebrate the success stories.
Last year I sold over $8 Million in real estate.  A lot of which were Short Sales.  I knew I had achieved Chairman's Club status which is the club for those achieving … (20 comments)

chris ann cleland: My Favorite Part of Christmas - 12/05/08 01:11 PM
My husband and I don't have any kids.  So a few Christmases ago, I decided to take part in the Angel Tree that our local association, the Prince William Association of Realtors, does every Christmas.  On the tree are the first names, ages and gender of less fortunate children in the community whose parents can't afford Christmas gifts.  We were allowed to purchase only gift for each.
The first year my husband and I did this, we picked a boy and a girl, each six years old.  We had a blast buying them each a toy.  We'd never done that before.
This year, I … (10 comments)

chris ann cleland: Braemar Townhouse Report: September - October 2008 - 11/04/08 02:35 AM
Two more months of resales in Braemar's townhouse inventory has given us the opportunity to examine average sales price for the months of September and October.  Townhouse sales in this Braemar Tonwhouse Report, as always, are divided into two categories:  No Garage and Garage.  Which category your townhouse falls into should be obvious.
Townhouses without garages have lost less value over the past year (31%).   The average sale price this report is down.  It's $207,250, down from $237,400 in July and August.  Seller subsidy (closing assistance from seller to buyer) has gone down from $8,450 to $3.000.  Unfortunately, the number of days it is … (7 comments)

chris ann cleland: Sunday's $100 Hamburger - 11/03/08 07:49 AM
Anyone who knows, loves or is a general aviation enthusiast has heard the expression of the $100 Hamburger.  You see, general aviation pilots are hobbyists.  They fly because they love it, not because it is their job.  And as a result, they look for excuses to go somewhere new, or just fly in general.  A hamburger at, or near a regional airport's restaurant may be reason enough to go for a flight.  Sure the hamburger costs five bucks, but when you factor in the fuel it took to get there, it ends up being a $100 hamburger.
My husband and I … (8 comments)

chris ann cleland: Fear Doesn't Go Away Because You Conquer it Once - 11/03/08 02:49 AM
My husband James bought a single engine plane (a Piper Archer) in December 2002.  We were dating at the time, and I was terrified of flying.  Sure I'd been on some jets to go on vacations, or business trips, but never without booze or Xanax.  It took me until December 2003 to get into that plane with James.  And even then I had taken a trusty Xanax and we only flew around the pattern of Manassas Airport, where he keeps the plane.
There were times when the plane put James and I at odds with one another.  He loved flying, and … (12 comments)

Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treaters and Parents
There is safety in numbers.  I often see parents traveling in groups with their children.  That way you can have multiple adult eyes on little ones. If you are a young adult, rule #1 still applies.  Travel with a few friends. Take a flashlight for poorly lit areas. Visit homes of people you know.  Stay in familiar territory. Let someone know where you are going, and what time you think you will be returning.  This goes for adults and young adults.

chris ann cleland: Monday Morning's Furry Alarm Clock - 10/13/08 03:46 AM
I hate alarm clocks.  They startle me.  And most of the time, they don't work.  I hit the snooze and am off...back to my dreams.
Recently, my wake up call comes from my bedtime buddy, Phoebe (left).  She sleeps right beside me all night long and in the morning gets right up in my face to start giving my hair a bath.  There is no snooze button on this cutie pie.
In the past, it's one of our other furry four legged family members.  Inevitably, they get tired of waiting for Mom and Dad to wake up and take matters into their … (16 comments)
