presidential election: Election 2008: Helping a First Time Voter
- 11/04/08 01:23 AM
My neighbor Rhina Vargas voted in her very first Presidential Election today. And of all the people she could have asked for help, she asked me. Wow! Rhina has been living in the United States for about twenty years. She is a native of El Salvador and became a US citizen this past July. I was so excited for her that day. But the excitement of being able to exercise the fundamental right of voting for the first time may have had her even more excited than that day she became a citizen. We got to the polls at about 8:30 (16 comments)

presidential election: The Election through the Eyes of a Swing State Voter
- 10/15/08 03:52 AM
As long as I can remember, my home state of Virginia has been red. This year it threatens to go blue. It's an exciting time to live here! My phone rings constantly with political polls and surveys. I stop everything to participate in each and every one of the phone calls. Must be the media geek in me. I love to know what these polls I see on the news every night are actually asking people. I have noticed some trends with regard to the Democratic and Republican approaches. The Republican phone calls asking for my vote are always coming from (12 comments)
