Designs for the Dutchess Rail Trail are under way. The trail is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2008. The Maybrook Line was double tracked, so there is plenty of width for an equestrian soft trail, and bicyclist/pedestrian paved trail. The 11-mile passage will connect the Town of Poughkeepsie to Hopewell Junction, following the same path through LaGrange and Wappingers. Once complete, the trail may see as much traffic as was intended when the land was purchased in the 1980s with the original intent to create a county road.
