Do remember drive-in movies? Drive-ins have just about become extinct. Did you know that in the United states there are only a few hundred drive-ins left? Well, two of them are right here in Dutchess County. Load up the station wagon, SUV or mini-van with lawn chairs, pile in the kids lawn and call it a night out! This weekend I even made it through a double feature at the Hyde Park drive-in- yeah, 2 for one! The movie critic in me tells says I should warn you against seeing Get Smart but I'm giving 4 stars to Sex In The City. Both theaters feature a full-service snack bar and radio sound. There's no better place like the Hudson Valley when it comes to fresh produce. The Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce campaign to "Think Local First" has inspired me to do just that! Why not visit the local farmers markets this summer? You'll find that in addition to home grown fruits and vegtables there is a wide variety of other itmes offered too - including fresh breads, baked goods, wines, cheeses, meats, flowers, fresh herbs, salsas, local honey. You'll even find crafts for sale. Here is a list of the local farmers markets in Dutchess County - and remember - "Think Local First".

hyde park: My Favorite Place Of Worship

While we were parishioners of a neighboring parish, I happened upon this beautifully restored chapel. while in the process of planning our only daughter's wedding. Not any church would do. Some were too cold and sterile, others were worn and dated. Sad to say, some priests did not have much time or personality to make me feel welcome. But, I managed to find the perfect place of worship which finally met my criteria. In a sense, shopping for the perfect setting for a wedding is much like looking for the perfect piece of real estate!

Inducing panic again! This time it's not about the stormy real estate market, but a "winter storm" warning that involves only a few inches. How can this be considered responsible news reporting? Last night I watched with amazement as the weatherman was urging viewers in the NY City area to brace themselves for our first winter "storm". As he went on and on, he seemed so excited to be reporting on what was going to be a breaking story in just a few hours, 1-3 inches of snow.!!!
