ny: All Aboard! - 12/15/07 09:25 PM
I just remembered another reason why living in Dutchess County, NY is so awesome... the trains! Whether you commute to NY City or just want to get there occasionally for the day (like I did last week on Metro North), the train makes the journey there stress-free! Next week I will be taking the train to Syracuse to get my parents for the holidays (they're in their 80's and don't drive the distance, so I take the train and drive them here in their car which is much more comfortable for them to get in and out of than my SUV). Anyway, we have

ny: Here Comes The Snow - Selling Your Home In The Winter Months - 12/12/07 08:36 PM
The weather system that froze Midwest states is expected to arrive in the Northeast after the Thursday morning commute, according to NBC WeatherPlus meteorologist Bill Karins. "Everyone will get to work just fine, but getting home should be ugly," he said. "A heavy burst of snow and sleet will fall from New York City to southern New England, especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Snow totals from the first storm could be 4-6 inches in Boston, New York City and other Northeast areas. By Saturday night, heavy snow and blizzard conditions are likely from central Pennsylvania, central New York and

ny: Christmas In New York - 12/10/07 06:42 PM
This weekend we decided to hop on a train from Poughkeepsie and visit the Big Apple for the day. As always, NY City was spectacular at Christmas time and we especially appreciated the unseasonably warm day. I enjoyed the window displays at Macy's on 34th Street, and Saks in Mid-Town. Little Italy was especially festive and also very deliciouso! At the end of the day, we took in a peaceful and quiet moment inside St. Patrick's cathedral - what a beautiful manger scene. But I have to say, the tree in Rockefeller Center this year is by far the best one I have seen! ....Proximity to NY City

ny: Curry - Tastes better than it smells! - 12/05/07 03:12 PM
It's a definite turn off! Cooking odors that linger, pet odors, a house that smells like the "chain smoker" who lives there - these are few of my unfavorite things. It's also the hardest thing to address with a seller. This is the first thing I notice when I step into a house. At the risk of offending my clients, I recommend charcoal odor absorbers - available in most hardware stores. These work to actually remove, absorb, expel and neutralize odors. They last for several weeks. I also recommend the Arm & Hammer Pet Odor Powder. I had a listing that was being marketed during a humid spell. The basement was damp and to add to

ny: News Media - Here They Go Again - 12/02/07 10:04 PM
Inducing panic again! This time it's not about the stormy real estate market, but a "winter storm" warning that involves only a few inches. How can this be considered responsible news reporting? Last night I watched with amazement as the weatherman was urging viewers in the NY City area to brace themselves for our first winter "storm". As he went on and on, he seemed so excited to be reporting on what was going to be a breaking story in just a few hours, 1-3 inches of snow.!!! Gee, I would consider that our first "snowfall" but it can hardly constitute a "storm". In Upstate NY today, the snowfall (or, dusting of
