green living: ...and How Big is Your Footprint? - 03/20/08 06:44 AM
Home Stager ARE green and here are some reasons why...and other tips
First: 3 ways we eliminate waste and protect our environment:
Reduce it first - A key part of waste reduction is "conservation". #1 use real glass, not Styrofoam or paper cups. 2nd; buy products that don't have a lot of layers of packaging. 3rd; before you buy something, ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" That's right; we say "If you don't need it, don't buy it!"Reuse is second - Home stagers are good at this: convert what you have for a new use like covering old books and using them … (8 comments)

green living: Where Will Your Favorite Tree or Flower End Up? - 03/11/08 04:11 AM
Today is the day I weed out what I want to write about and what I will just toss. I have always had piles of torn pages from decorator and food magazines but now, because of my awareness gained through Active Rain and the Eco group, I have a GREEN pile and it is the tallest of them all.
At the top of this pile of greenness is an article from one of my AARP magazines and have been hanging onto it for a few weeks now. The photo depicts a tree standing on the side of the road with it's suitcase … (5 comments)

green living: Remember When Gas Was 49 Cents? - 03/09/08 10:23 AM
Back to the future? Well it is coming around again! This is something to REALLY look forward to. Driving your car on 49 cents a gallon again? Yes!
The reason I bring this up is because I Google Alert 'new inventions' and I ran across a very interesting blog with 100 new clean energy inventions that, unless you are interested in the same subject, would never find out about these inventions until they become available.
What really caught my eye is #7 on the list; a new ceramic battery that has enough energy to take your car 500 miles at about $.49 cents … (25 comments)

green living: You are not green until you SLEEP ON BAMBOO? - 01/25/08 10:59 AM
That's right! You are NOT GREEN until you order your very own bamboo sheets! I am not kidding. I might be the last one to know about these but I understand they feel way beyond the silkiest thread count.
I am so excited about taking my green living to a new level that I am announcing the product in my February newsletter. Target carries them if you can believe that...but my favorite online store is Viva Terra...not that I have anything against Target, Viva Terry is one of my affiliates so I will support them.
(Now if you are going to order … (19 comments)

green living: I'm Feeling Green Again... - 07/04/07 09:03 AM
Every time I learn something new I have to run to my computer and post about it in AR, like it is my diary...if I don't write about it, my news will be lost forever. Now that I have streamlined my recycling at home and every shred of recyclable material makes it into the right barrel, its time to expand my horizons.
Now I am going to tackle how I take care of weeds once and for all, there is a by-product of milled corn called Cockadoodle Doo's Organic Weed Control. It is a pre-emergent suppressor that will prevent new weeds from … (3 comments)

green living: Eco-friendly Acts of Kindess Required! - 05/06/07 08:09 AM
According to Ecclesiastes, there is nothing new under the sun. I don't think plastic was invented then, or the convenience of sodas and milk cartons. Costco sells food in two's and three's held together by plastic bands.
Saving money and having the convenience of easy to use food and beverages should not cost the planets animals and birds their life or freedom!

Anytime you purchase an item wrapped in plastic or held together by plastic rings, please take the time to cut them up into little shreds.

Please!

green living: Natural Cleaning Products Revisited - 04/30/07 08:12 AM
These solutions get my GREEN CHECK MARK OF APPROVAL for cleaning.

Having white carpet in the country has been a challenge but nothing like having a puppy on white carpet in the country! I know where he is by my nose and this is not sitting well with me so I am making up some fresh solutions for the task. I thought you might want to refresh your spray bottles as well so here are some recipes...(no need to comment, I know you will be looking for that darned spray bottle!)
Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and … (21 comments)

green living: Changing Colors with Post-it Notes - 04/22/07 03:42 AM
I am glued to the TV this weekend watching "Planet Earth" and other shows celebrating Green Day. Our beloved planed is in trouble because of us and we are the only ones who can do anything about it. I have Tivo'd everything I could find. The red light was on last night when I went to bed and on this morning when I woke up. We have come a long way since the first economy car was introduced way back when.
I am also overwhelmed at how stuck I am to old patterns. I cannot believe that I went to the … (31 comments)

green living: 7 More Things You Can Do... in Honor of Earth Day on the 22nd! - 04/19/07 05:38 AM
I am aghast at the complainers I run into...it reminds me of the school yard in 5th grade. There are groups formed at that stage of life that some just don't grow out of.
There are those that stand on the sidelines and giggle, making fun of and judging others to make themselves feel bigger and better. Then there are the ones that wont do anything until everyone is doing itHow about the group that points the finger and says "Why should I have to do it, they're not!"But for the rest of us who care and that includes you skeptics, here … (12 comments)

green living: Make your Sphere of Influence accountable! - 04/18/07 05:07 AM
Lisa Kauffman Tharp was the first person to inspire me to look at new materials when I specify products and take more responsibility with toxic materials. She is doing her job being green with her sphere of influence by bringing what she knows to Active Rain and sharing it with paint, flooring, and much more.
As an interior designer/home stager, I think I have a chance to do a bit more for the environment than the average person when I specify product, or do I?
What about the grocery store clerk? Can a green store clerk bring awareness to the management to … (23 comments)

green living: Al Gore Needs Your Signature ASAP...Please Read! - 03/19/07 11:28 AM
Hi everyone. I received this letter from Al Gore just now and he needs more signatures before his Wednesday meeting in front of congress. I am copying his letter and pasting it here so if you have not had a chance to participate please do so now and send a copy to all that you know. Thanks - we all appreciate it!

green living: Crazy Weather - 01/12/07 12:31 AM
Have you noticed how the weather is changing? Yesterday I had the air conditioner on in my car at noon and this morning we could find snow in the valley! Global warming is so evident. I am very concerned that people in general forget to do what they can to slow the global warming down because our lives are so busy.
I, for one, forget as well until something happens like this extreme climate change within a 24 hour period. If you have not seen an Inconvenient Truth yet, I urge you to see it. If you have and you have made … (3 comments)

green living: Home Staging Tip #4: An Inconvenient Truth - 01/11/07 08:55 AM
If you haven't seen Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth", you must go out and rent it today. It will change the way you live and those you come in contact with. Real Estate Agents, Home Stagers, and Decorators, are inside peoples home's more than any other industry. We can all help save the planet by doing just a few small changes in our every day lives and in our work.
Trash areas: The majority of homeowners have trash issues. They are areas that get the least attention and cause the most harm to our planet. Home Stager's can advise on recycling … (30 comments)
