I've seen a lot of good reviews from the Bone Island Grill on Crooked Creek's Marina. However, until recently I had not taken the opportunity to try it out. Several weeks ago, my wife and I decided to try it out on Wednesday, which is Gatewood Schools night. Now after several more visits I can report that everything I've tried was absolutely fantastic. I can't recommend a favorite because every meal has been superb. I highly recommend it to any of you who are looking for a fine meal at an excellent price. The service and atmosphere are great as well.
Why not check it out during their Valentine's Day special (actually on the 13th). Billed as Bone Island Grill at Crooked Creek Marina's Valentine's Dinner & Dance, enjoy live music, dinner and dancing from 8 p.m. to midnight featuring Eddie Byrd & Good Vibrations. Enjoy a Special Dinner Package for two after 8 p.m. including an appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 desserts and two adult beverages. You may call (706) 485-9693 for more information.
Like many of my clients and customers, I recently took advantage of the great opportunity to buy. My wife and I moved before Thanksgiving. My wife has long been infatuated with the front-load washers and dryers that have become so popular. After researching the appliance market, we purchased a set for our new home. In reading about the various products, the issue of washer vibration was mentioned, especially by consumers. However, I convinced myself that if I appropriately leveled the machine we would have no problem. Boy was I wrong.
Upon connecting the washer and putting it through its paces, I soon saw that regardless of leveling, there was terrific vibration and associated noise when heavy loads were in the machine (towels, etc.). I conducted more research and attempted many suggestedsolutions to eliminate the issue. The best solution was the purchase of thick rubber boots that fit beneath the four leveling feet of the machine. These worked reasonably well, but there was still enough vibration to cause the machine to "walk" during spin cycles. What to do? Twenty dollar boots hadn't solved our dilemma.
I finally found a solution in an obscure blog comment in a thread that was much further down the line than I normally read. The solution: A horse stable rubber mat! Say what? That's right, a rubber stable mat. This mat that is sold at feed and seed, equestrian, or tractor supply stores costs around $40. The mat I purchased was a 4x6 foot size, and about 3/4 inches thick. I was able to cut the mat to the exact dimensions of the space for our washer and dryer (further ensuring lack of movement) with a simple utility knife. The mat is very heavy, weighing around 35 pounds (another plus for stability). One side of the mat is ribbed, while the other has a raised star-like design. In tests before putting the mat into action, I determined that the ribbed side provided the most contact across the flooring, and thereby reduced chance of movement.
Here are some pictures of my mat. Since its installation, noise and vibration have been eliminated. I eliminated the rubber boots and set the washer directly on the mat. I can't take credit for this solution, but guess I will read further down comment threads from now on. The guy who offered his tip had it right. Hope this helps you as well!

During the past weekend, I noticed several groups of folks picking up trash along Old Phoenix Road. As lovely as the scenary is throughout Lake Country, trash on the sides of our roads can certainly negate the beauty. Undoubtedly, these good people were part of the new Adopt-A-Roadway program recently approved by the Putnam County Board of Commissioners. If you would like to adopt an area for yourself, you can find more information at the county website (www.putnamcountyga.us). The link to the application form is provided below:
Driving past my old home this weekend I passed my good friend's business just south of Greensboro. Dr. Rob Durham operates his Veterinary Clinic just south of Greensboro off of the Old Eatonton Highway. Recently, he completed some renovations and landscaping to include new fencing and two sharp looking signs at the entrance to the clinic. These new signs tell of a unique family history.
"Doc" Durham started his practice in 1938 after graduating from the Vet school at the University of Georgia. His legacy is commemorated on the sign shown to the left.
Dr. Bobby Durham graduated from the UGA Vet School in the 1960's and joined his dad in practice. Dr. Rob Durham followed in his dad and grandfather, completing his veterinary studies at UGA in the 1980's. Rob has since taken over most of the practice, taking on two more doctors to assist with the increased area business.
Whether you have small or large animal needs, you can certainly depend on the doctors at Durham Veterinary Clinic. Call the number on the sign below whenever you require veterinary services.

None of the participants is an elected official and therefore has no power to affect policy beyond what anyone in the audience is capable of doing themselves.
