Best of Judy's Journal - The Contest Continues! Join me on a virtual journey of Plymouth Massachusetts, and the surrounding community, including The Pinehills. Throughout the year, I will be writing area specific posts in a series called "Best of Judy's Journal." I will tag these posts "Judy's Journal" and place a link to previous posts within the series at the bottom of the current post.
These posts will be local, local, local! Consisting of fun or special photographs, upcoming events, recaps of past events (so you don't miss out on the fun next time), highlights of area businesses (so you know where to shop, eat, play) etc.
Warning: If you don't already live in the area, you will want to by the end of the year!
What is this about a contest, you ask? It's quite simple really. In order to coax (okay, it's a bribe) you into reading my blog, The Green Company is willing to offer a little incentive. All you have to do is subscribe to my blog, and at the end of the year, we will ask you to vote on your favorite post from the Best of Judy's Journal series. Anyone that votes, will be entered into a drawing for a special prize.
If you want to participate in the contest, follow these really simple steps:
1. Subscribe to my blog - click here: Judy's Journal (or the pinecone below)
2. Vote on your favorite post at the end of the year and you will be entered into the drawing
In order to qualify, you must be 18 years or older, can not be a family member, or employee of The Green Company, The Pinehills, or any other builder within The Pinehills.
I told you it was simple. Please join me on a virtual journey of Plymouth Massachusetts, and the surrounding area, including The Pinehills. Hope to see you soon!

“Call on Judy at The Green Company”
For the past year, I have been writing posts primarily about The Pinehills (the community), The Green Company (my employer), and the product we sell (Fresco homes). Lately, I have not been as consistent with posting as I would like to be, due in part to the gradual loss of my writing style. I lost my voice!
As an independent agent, it was easier to write for myself and my business. I picked my niche and targeted a specific community. I wrote market reports, general information about the surrounding community, featured local businesses, etc.
When I became an employee vs. an independent Realtor®, writing became a little more complicated for me. It shouldn't have, but it did. The Green Company has been very supportive with my blog. However, now that I am working within The Pinehills I had to be cautious not to write in a manner that might give the impression that I was writing FOR The Pinehills, rather than about The Pinehills. I do not write for The Pinehills.
I had to think too hard about the titles, and the message I was conveying. Writing was becoming laborious, and it was coming across in my post. Boring!
Judy needs wants to get her voice back! I have decided that I am going to stop trying to SELL you something, and start trying to TELL you something. All right, maybe that's a bit extreme. You can't take the "sales" out of a salesgirl! I will still mix it up with content about The Green Company Fresco homes, the neighborhoods in which we are currently building, and of course about The Pinehills and the surrounding community.
Welcome to Judy's Journal. This is my blog, written by me with a new theme and the same great attitude!
I will continue with the contest "Pinehills, In or Around for 365 Days" with a slightly different format and a new title - "The best of Judy's Journal". So stay tuned.

A Ribbon for You
There are numerous reasons why I choose to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Like you, I know someone that has it, had it, or has lost their battle with this dreadful disease.
I am walking for YOU, for everyone.I want you to know how much this means to me. I plan on wearing a ribbon in honor of anyone that has it, had it, or has lost their battle with breast cancer. I already have several ribbons that will be attached to my shirt, and I would be honored to wear one for you, or for someone you love. Please send me your name(s). Here is my email address - callonjudy@comcast.net. If you would like to make a donation, here is the link to my page - Judy Jennings - Avon Walk Donation. Donations are appreciated, but not necessary.
Did you know that every three minutes someone is diagnosed with breast cancer? Every year there are approximately 175,315 +/- people receiving the horrifying news that they have breast cancer. There are three million women in the United States living with breast cancer - and many of them don't even know it! Pretty staggering statistics, I know! This disease does not discriminate against gender, religious belief, financial status, age, etc. It knows no bounds! This will be my third year participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I will walk with my friend Pat (survivor), her daughter Lindsay, and son Daniel, my sister Karen, and our friend Barbara.

I believe that one day we will find a cure for breast cancer, but only if we keep trying. Please suggest, reblog, and/or share. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you!

I have known that we are getting close to being sold out of new construction in Winslowe's View for a while now, but today I realized just how close we are to completion of this neighborhood.
There are only eight Fresco homes available for sale on Whitcomb Garden. We will build two more on Margeson Row, and at some point we will sell our two current Fresco models, plus the Talcott "Q" model we use for offices. When these 13 homes are gone, we will be sold out in Winslowe's View!
If you want new construction in Winslowe's View - HURRY! Otherwise, we are still offering Fresco homes in Rebecca's Landing and The Greens.

Many of us learned about Plymouth Rock as school children, and most likely have even visited the monument that surrounds this symbol of American history.
Did you know there is another historic rock in Plymouth Massachusetts? It's called Sacrifice Rock and it is located on Old Sandwich Road in The Pinehills.
Native Americans would place branches, stones, or other items on or around the rock as a spiritual gesture in hopes of receiving blessings for safe travels.
Even today, you can still find "offerings" that people have placed on or around this special rock. When I visited recently to take this photograph, I noticed beads, coins, rocks, pinecones, part of a shell, feathers, and a little red pouch. Who knows what I will find next time.

This photograph of Old Sandwich Road was taken last year during one of our numerous snow events. If you have never traveled down this road, it's like stepping back in time.
Old Sandwich Road is known around here as the oldest road in America. It was originally a trail used by Native American Indians. It is an unpaved, scenic road that runs through a portion of Pinehills.
Travel down this road and you will come upon another historic landmark. Stay tuned!

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, I thought it might be interesting to share a little African American history as it relates to Plymouth. Did you know that Massachusetts Bay Colony was the first British colony to legalize slavery in 1641? It wasn't until 1783 that slavery became illegal. Many slaves fought in the American Revolutionary War (for both sides) with hopes of earning their freedom. Not all were so lucky. However four notable Plymouth African Americans were given their freedom and a gift of land from the government in exchange for their service. Quamony Quash, Cato Howe, Plato Turner and Prince Goodwin established an area in Plymouth known as Parting Ways - New Guinea Settlement. Here is the stone that marks their burial site.
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you love seafood, then you need to check out Joe's Lobster Mart in Sandwich, MA. I discovered this place when I was living on Cape Cod and have found it to be the best place to purchase fresh lobster. In addition to lobster, they also have a great selection of fresh fish, shellfish, and prepared chowders and bisques. Located on the Cape Cod Canal. From Pinehills, it is approximately a 20-25 minute ride. Trust me, it's worth the trip.

It was a year ago today that my office was closed due to heavy snow fall. I spent the day house bound due to an 8 to 12 inch snow fall.

A few weeks later we were clobbered with another significant snow event. Which inspired this post - Begging for Mercy. Check out the photos in the post, they are really pretty.
If you ask me, we have been fortunate with only 1 to 2 inches of snow so far this winter. Our weather has been unseasonably warm, with many days reaching fifty to sixty degrees. Today was all rain, no snow. Thank goodness, we would have been buried.
Snow belongs in the mountains where the ski enthusiasts appreciate it. I sure hope this post doesn't jinx us!
