chris alston: A Day at the California Air Show, in Salinas, CA (C-17 Globemaster) - 09/25/11 03:23 PM
The California Airshow in Salinas, CA was this weekend.  Many people that think of airshows, just think of the planes and jets flying in the air... And YES, there are many planes that get to fly, and yeah they are pretty awesome...
But...

You also get to tour and climb in some of the planes that are on display!  My son was able to sit in the pilots seat of a C-17 Globemaster!  This awesome US Air Force Cargo Plane is one of 120 or so that the US uses as it main heavy lift platform.  The airmen that were doing … (8 comments)

chris alston: Praying Mantis - Photoblog Saturday - 09/24/11 04:36 PM
My son and I were strolling along the docks at Lake Don Pedro.  Located near La Grange, California.  It was surging to 100 degrees and we HAD to get some ice, and ice cream!  We stopped to help some boaters guide their boat into a slip, and right there, on the railing was a praying mantis!

Out here in California, we don't see them very often, and it had been a few years since my last sighting...  Funny, sounds like I am talking about a UFO or something!

We even left and had our ice cream, and went back … (14 comments)

chris alston: Me and Stefan Swanepoel - Mega Agent Camp - Photoblog - 09/21/11 12:30 PM
HA!
It seems that all of the real estate events I go to, I run into Stefan Swanepoel!  And at this years Keller Williams Mega Agent Camp was no different!
Stefan was a keynote speaker during the event that is going on all week.  Walking the halls, enjoying insightful and deep conversations and debates about current events that we are tackling in the Real Estate Biz.  And of course, his presentation was packed!

If you have read the book, "Surviving Your Serengeti" then you know how amazing he can be with his knowledge on a diverse set of subjects.

chris alston: A Day at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Photoblog, Santa Cruz, CA - 09/17/11 04:46 PM
A Day at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
Before I went to the Santa Cruz County Fair the other day, my son Ryan and I stopped over at the beach for a picnic out in front of the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA.
The great thing about this beach (our second trip there in the last three days) was the parking is free!  Either you go to a state beach and pay to park and enter...  Or park on the shoulder and climb down the cliffs to the beach OR you can park at the amusement parks lots for free!

chris alston: Fun with my son, at the Santa Cruz County Fair, CA - 09/16/11 03:23 PM
You can't force a real smile on your children...  You know if you try, they just give you a smile that just doesn't look like a smile.  We went to the Santa Cruz County Fair yesterday, and when he got our tickets in his hand...  He gave me this smile, and it wasn't the last that evening!

You know, if you want to know if your 4 year old is having a good time...  You never get that "I'm tired of walking" or "Can I ride on your shoulders" or wanting you to hold then...  And believe me, I NEVER … (26 comments)

chris alston: Motivational Monday - Ralph Waldo Emerson - Life is a voyage... - 09/05/11 04:19 PM
Motivational Monday
We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate.  The wold is all gates, all opportunities.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
It does seem that we all are inventors of our own dreams...  Of our own path of discovery.  Each new thing that we find aids in the direction that our lives lead.  Based on a dream that was planted there by someone as we were in our younger years.
Maybe that is why some of us like to camp and others don't...

chris alston: Speechless Sunday - Me and my son, in the truck! - 09/04/11 05:26 AM
There are those times that you kids really want to be like you...  And times that their imagination takes them places just by sitting in the place that you sit when doing that thing they are dreaming about...

My son sat on my lap...  Did the engine noises...  Did the turning of the steering wheel...  Did the looking out across the landscape at our house...  Imagining that he was 4 wheeling, kicking up dust, and getting a little mud on the tires!
I keep telling him, that my truck will be his someday...  Do you think he will want it, … (24 comments)

chris alston: 2011-2012 Cupertino High School News (Driving, Drop Off, Parking answers) - 08/31/11 03:18 PM
As you know, there has been (and still is) lots of construction in and around Cupertino High School.  To help alleviate the traffic issues, CHS has a few pointers.
If Driving:
Try to carpool, to lower the amount of cars on Finch Ave Try riding your bike, to also lower the cars on Finch Ave during construction. Try taking the bus, mass transit works! If you are dropping of students, try to use Miller, Tantau and Stevens Creek. And please obey the traffic rules, and watch for cyclists. If you are driving, and parking at school you will need a 2011-2012 … (7 comments)

chris alston: He said to me, “I didn’t know you were still in Real Estate”… When he sold with another agent… - 08/28/11 05:06 PM
He said to me, “I didn’t know you were still in Real Estate”…  When he sold with another agent…
Oh boy oh boy…  Have you ever heard this line?  One of your past clients, or friends, or SOI saying that they didn’t use you, because they thought you were no longer in the business.
At first you think they are lying, and making up some line to feed you…  Like with a guy says that his wife did something without him knowing trying to pass along the blame to someone else when in reality it was his choice not to use … (138 comments)

chris alston: Photoblog Sunday - My Son with the Father of the Forest! (Big Basin, CA) - 08/28/11 02:13 PM
Camping and hiking at Big Basin Redwood State Park, in California.  One of the few Old Growth forest that still exist out here in California...  Most of the forests were cut during the boom times in California's history.

One of the hikes we took, guided us through some of the beasts that exist here.  This tree that my son is standing next to was called "The Father of the Forest"...  It stands over 250 tall, and is still not the tallest, as the Mother of the Forest stands over 329 feet tall!
We climbed, hiked, explored, and took pictures on … (16 comments)

chris alston: Hiking in "Almaden Quicksilver County Park". New Almaden, San Jose, CA. - 08/25/11 12:05 PM
Hiking in "Almaden Quicksilver County Park".  It is located in New Almaden, which is in the Southern part of San Jose, CA.

This park is owned and maintained by the County of Santa Clara.  It was purchased in the mid 70's and turned into a rich historical park full of trails and discovery.

The parking lot is spacious, and free.  As you approach the trial head, you are greeted with a great board showing you the trails, and many handouts explaining the paths you can take.

Most of the beginning of the hike is in the shadows of … (17 comments)

Motivational Monday - Don't loose your dreams...  No one can take them from you!
"The diamond may adorn royalty, regardless of personal worth...
But jewels of thought render even poverty illustrious and sublime."
-Gems for the fireside
I have no idea what "Gems for the fireside" are or is or whatever, but I really liked this when I ran into this as I was doing some work tonight.  And it made me think about a few things.
You know, no one can take away our dreams, our thougths or aspirations...  No matter how tuff life gets, or how many people try … (21 comments)
