The Kirby FIRE/EMS Station #5 NOW OPEN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES!
This is great news as it could result in lower insurance premiums for nearby property homeowners! The City of Pearland Fire Department recently initiated operation of Fire & EMS Station 5, located at 3100 Kirby Dr. This is the City's second shared Fire/EMS facility housing fire apparatus and EMS Mobile Intensive Care units. It is one of three fire stations with 24-hour combination paid and volunteer firefighter staffing.

I recently received an email on a great way to protect yourself at night and I thought I'd pass on the tip!
This tip actually came from a neighborhood watch coordinator: Always keep your car keys by your bedside at night. 
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

As mentioned in a previous blog, the deadline to file a homestead exemption in Brazoria County is April 30, 2011. I would also like to warn all recent home buyers of home exemption scams out there.
There are many businesses that send official-looking letters that suggest that a fee - typically $50 or more- that must be paid for a homeowner to get the exemption. They may also state that their company handles homestead exemption filings for the state of Texas. These claims can be deceptive. According to the weatherman, it looks like Pearland is in for several nights of freezing temperatures this week.  Here are a few things to keep in mind to protect your home:
Before the cold hits:
Insulate your exposed pipes. These can be found in crawl spaces and attics. Exposed pipes are more susceptible to freezing! Seal any leaks that allow cold air inside near where pipes are located. 2010 was a banner year for the real estate market in Pearland, TX!
Despite the national recession last year, Pearland continued grow.  Between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010, there were 1,345 homes sold in Pearland.  That's an average of 112 homes selling each month!  It is interesting to note that these home sales seem to be spread out across the city.
