The top ten states searched for real estate in August were New York, California, Florida, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, Alabama, Iowa, Arkansas, and Indiana. CA and FL both have had re-surging markets lately. New York and Texas markets are the "last" to see a slow down. Massachusetts has a new movie studio and movie industry developing. Illinois has the Obama factor. Alabama has the go zone and the jobs going into the coast and Mobile. Iowa is as far from the global warming floods as you can get. Arkansas has Walmart. The Top Ten States list is an indication of future real estate interest. Because most people are now using the Internet for 2 to 3 months before they talk to any agent or broker, this list is a good indicator of places that future real estate activity will occur. When you know where people are spending their time studying property and market information, you can plan your lending packages, your inspection marketing, your buyer marketing pushes, etc. Supporting data from the government's"Housing Price Indicator" shows that the bottom may have been reached last November (2008). Here is the monthly report for where surfers were looking for real estate on REindex.com, The Site Engine® in November. There are two reports about where people are looking for real estate that are interesting. I was glad to see Alabama on one of the reports having gone there myself to search for deals. The first of the reports is the top ten states for search activity ranked strictly by the number of pages viewed on REindex. Iowa real estate sales were ranked 23rd out of all 50 US states in home price appreciation in 2007. There were no Iowa cities in the top 20 appreciating cities or in the 20 cities that lost the most value. Some other cities cities like Ames, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines were on the list of 291 cities doing well. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) produced an 88 page reports that says Iowa real estate sales were number 23 in the list of states that had "...positive four-quarter appreciation" in 2007...".
