Almost Silent Saturday - Mother Nature's Home Selling Tips - 04/28/12 09:03 AM

Earth Day Dallas 2012 was chock full of great stuff!  The annual, outdoor festival had informative exhibits, great food and drink made with sustainably grown ingredients using eco-friendly sources, and overall -- numerous activities to help raise and increase environmental awareness. Oh ... and one more thing.  I also found out that being conscientious and kind to our environment can provide additional benefits when you're selling a home too!

Hi! I Grew Up In This House ... Do You Mind If I Come In? - 04/26/12 06:07 PM
Have you ever gone back to see the house you grew up in?  A couple of times, while visiting some friends near my old neighborhood, I’ve taken a little detour and driven down my old street – the street where my childhood home is located.  The first time I did this, I just kept on driving – catching a fleeting glimpse as I observed the many renovations happening on the block.  The second time, I actually stopped my car in front of the house for a few, brief moments.  Although I didn't stay long, I was so tempted to knock on … (67 comments)

Hey, I'm In The Next Stall -- I Can Hear Everything You're Saying! - 04/24/12 10:31 AM
It’s never really a good idea to talk about the intimate details of business or people in public.  This is a lesson I learned when I was a very young girl.  One of my best friend's father was a tremendous role model, and I’ve never forgotten all the great advice he gave me while growing up.  Sometimes, when he would take us out for dinner, my girlfriend and I would naturally start to gab about anything and everything.  That's when he would remind us to NEVER talk about people in public.  He would often say, “you never know who is sitting … (60 comments)

Memorable Monday: Bob Stewart & Cousin Eddie ... This One's For You! - 04/23/12 11:36 AM
While enjoying Earth Day 2012 festivities in Dallas this past weekend, I saw and photographed several images that, in one way or another, reminded me of ActiveRain.  And, after reading Bob Stewart's post last week, I immediately thought about Bob and his cousin Eddie when I stumbled upon these two guys -- deeply engaged in a 'giant' game of chess.
Now, that's what I call a Chess Set!

Will The Real "Carie Shapiro" Please Stand Up - 04/17/12 08:38 AM
Not long ago, I attempted to pick up some clothes I had dropped off at a new dry cleaners.  After presenting my ticket stub to the clerk behind the counter, the owner reappeared several minutes later – sans my clothes.  With a puzzled look on his face, the owner said, “You were here yesterday!  We gave you your clothes yesterday!”  Feeling like I was in the middle of a Twilight Zone episode, it took 15 stressful minutes to determine that my clothes were handed over to another customer.  Wait … what!?!  Yes, the dry cleaners gave all of my clothes to … (42 comments)

How I Avoid Becoming ActiveRain Blog Fodder - 04/13/12 08:59 AM
We’ve all seen the various, unfortunate posts about less-than-stellar behavior, unprofessionalism, and missteps taken by some of our fellow real estate agents.  These posts are never pleasant to read – and they certainly don’t paint the rest of us in a very positive light.  We all strive to be successful, ethical, and well-respected real estate professionals.  And, whether you're a brand new agent or a seasoned veteran, we're all "works in progress" -- always.  Professional growth and development are not options -- they're necessities.  Continuing education classes and industry-specific seminars and workshops are all fantastic ways to teach us new techniques, … (19 comments)

Thank You For UNSubscribing To My Blog - 04/10/12 08:07 AM
When I first joined ActiveRain about five months ago, I had no clue what “subscribing to someone’s blog” actually meant.  Basically, I would read a blog, perhaps leave a comment, click “Subscribe” if I really liked it, and then off I’d go.  Since that time, however, I’ve discovered many wonderful members whose blogs I enjoy on a regular basis.  As a result, I’ve been building up daily reading and commenting -- while slowly increasing subscribership. "Thank You For Subscribing To My Blog" says the subject line of the email I typically receive after subscribing to someone’s blog.  By the way, I've … (19 comments)

Pardon Me, But Has Anybody Ever Told You That You Look Exactly Like .... - 04/06/12 07:04 AM

Today, for the third time in a month, I was told that I look just like Patricia Clarkson.  Actually, I've heard this comparison several times over the past year or so.  I guess I kinda/sorta look like her … what do you think?

During the 1980's & 1990's, people used to tell me that I looked just like Teri Garr all the time.  I don't get that comparison so much anymore, though.
Has anybody ever told you that you resemble somebody famous?  If so, who have you been told that you look like?  Share your story ... … (14 comments)

Getting In Shape May Have Saved Me From Getting Swept Up In A Tornado - 04/03/12 07:01 PM
It was beautiful and sunny earlier today as I drove to my noontime Jazzercise® class.  With about 15 minutes remaining in the class, the weather turned severe with heavy rain, thunder, and tornado sightings.  Sirens were sounded to notify everyone about potential tornado activity.  Our instructor asked everyone in class if we should continue.  We collectively decided to finish the class -- agreeing it would be safer inside than outside.  (And, since my instructor is 3 months pregnant, I even offered to throw myself on top of her if the windows blew out!)
Luckily, the tornadoes didn’t touch down in our … (16 comments)

Need More Proof That Blogging Works? Just Stop Blogging! - 04/01/12 06:15 PM
For a couple of weeks last month, my participation on ActiveRain was curtailed by several commitments.  Thank goodness for Smartphones, though.  At least, I managed to log in every day.  I just couldn't bear the thought of losing 100 points x 14 days = 1400 points (but who’s counting!)  Otherwise, I did not write, post, or comment on any blogs at all. About halfway through my sabbatical, I received a message from someone who is NOT an ActiveRain member, but who follows my ActiveRain blog.  The message said:  “No blogs in a week … Are you doing okay?”  A big smile … (51 comments)
