Donations Sought For Hebron Food Pantry - 07/29/08 02:36 PM
The demand for food and other supplies from Hebron's food pantry has nearly doubled in recent weeks, as many more local families are turning to the food pantry, which is run by Hebron Interfaith Human Services (HIHS) to help them meet their needs. The donation of the following items are urgently needed: tuna, jelly, peanut butter, cereal, canned meats, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, snack foods, all cleaning products, toilet paper and all personal care products. Donations can be delivered to HIHS, which is located at 20 Pendleton Dr, Hebron, CT, from 9am -3:30pm. Monday through Thursday.

Hebron resident Elyse Plude is looking for people from all the Rivereast towns to participate in the American Diabetes Association's Step Out and Walk to Fight Diabetes. The walk will take place Sat Oct 4 at Lake Compounds in Bristol, CT. Boy Scout Troop 57 will conduct a bottle drive Sat July 19 from 9am-noon, in the parking lot of American Distilling & Manufacturing Company, Inc., 31 East High St, East Hampton, CT (Rt 66), next door to Island Coffee Traders (the former Donut Depot). Douglas Library, located at 22 Main St, Hebron, will host a special summer program featuring Horizon Wings on Wed July 16 at 2pm in the library's community room. Horizon Wings is a small nonprofit center for the rehabilitation of raptors that is located in Ashford, CT. Cindy Baloga, owner of Creative Dance Center, has announced a dance recital fundraiser. The Town of Portland is continuing a $12 per fiscal year Transfer Station Permit Fee. The sticker is good through June 30, 2009. On Thursday July 17 at the Portland Senior Center ArtVan van will go to the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven to see Van Gogh's works The Cypress and Starry Night, visiting from New York Museums. The senior center has timed admission tickets to view the works as a group. The van will leave the senior center at 10:30am and drop the group at the gallery for the visit. The Hebron Treasure Hunt/Car Rallye will take place Sat June 28, at RHAM High School, 85 all St, Hebron. This will be a tour of various historic sights of the town. On Tues July 8 from 9am-12:30pm, the East Hampton Senior Center will host a mobile mammography clinic. This service makes it convenient for women to have a screening mammogram, which is used to identify breast cancer. This program reaches ot to women who would otherwise not have access to mammography services including women without insurance coverage. CPR & First Aid Training sessions are coming up at AHM Youth and Family Services. CPR training will be held On Tues July 15 and First Aid training on Thurs July 17, both starting at 6pm at the AHM Community Building, 25 Pendelton Ave, Hebron. It is necessary to have a current CPR certification in order to attend the First Aid Class. The cost is $70 for both evenings, or $40 for one evening.
