When Your Client's House Burns Down, Do They Know All That They Lost? - 10/31/06 04:52 PM
It happened early this morning. They slept through the smoke detector alarms, but luckily the family dog woke them up. Everyone got out okay. But their home is is now a black hole. It's frightening but with a 'no loss of life outcome,' everything else is secondary.
I'm blogging because my client's found themselves with an insurance person for hours today, trying to recreate every little thing in their home. Thankfully they have insurance, but what they did not have, was an itemization of what they owned. Many of us in the Rain Puddle have blogged about First Time Home Buyers … (61 comments)

Why People Move To Cleveland and Stay - 10/24/06 10:18 PM
Cleveland: Still 'Most Liveable'When I was a Cleveland School District kid, we had periodic field trips to Severance Hall for Young People's Concerts. (Pictured at left are student's who are following that same tradition today).  It expanded my world. I got lost in the music. The Cleveland Orchestra is still a world class orchestra. My friends and I try to attend concerts whenever we can. Have you been there since the rennovation of a few years back? IT IS MAGICAL. And the acoustics? Sit in the last row at the top and hear a pin drop on stage. What a gem … (6 comments)

Housing Trends of the Future.... and Will Buyers Like It? Will We Like It? - 10/18/06 08:57 PM
That's my Manager Mark, with one of my colleagues Chris. We opened our City Office last January and the space is a cool, long, narrow urban design, replete with the original tin ceiling. It's a creative atmosphere within which to work. Mark is as geeky about searching out books on homes and home design as I am. He also loves Dwell Magazine and forces us to read it...not that we mind!  My interest was piqued when a friend of mine called me to say Karrie Jacobs, the magazine's Founding Editor, had written a book she knew I would love. I immediately … (27 comments)

Don't Believe The Hype: Buy a Home Now - 10/10/06 11:14 AM
That is what I want to shout from the rafters with a bull horn. I'm sure we all do. As a Realtor, it is my job to be able to separate out the myth from the truth. I want a marketing piece that speaks to this issue. To do that, I'm looking at three things:    1. Mortgage Rates Today vs. Mortgage Rates a Year Ago    2. Home Sale Prices Today vs. Home Sale Prices a Year Ago.   3. How Many Buyers Are There and Who Are They?
I focused on 3BR 1Bath Homes in Lakewood (an inner ring suburb of Cleveland) and … (8 comments)

Blogging Is Hip and High Tech But This Blows My Mind - 10/07/06 10:43 AM
I'm sure most of you have seen the photos. There is no more evidence needed that the world of science and technology has zoomed forward at lightening speed. This photo of the Mars crater taken by the trusty Rover probe blew me away. It also got me to thinking about how important it is to stay on top of technology in my field, the way NASA is leading the pack via Mars. All I have to do is read Angus' Blog to know that technology on our level is jumping leaps and bounds. I had to pick a technology vehicle to … (3 comments)

"Call It the Office of Management and 'Blog-It'" - 10/04/06 03:04 PM
Who woulda thunk it, or maybe it was inevitable! The Washington Post is my homepage and today there is a story uncovering the Government's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) using bloggers to try to get some 'pork' out of government (good luck on that one!)  The beauty of the process is explained at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/03/AR2006100301313.html This is pretty heady  stuff!  Imagine our government keeping us busy into the night, checking for waste and pork in contract proposals?  That is the kind of thing OMB is envisioning, with all proposals of $25k or more being on line in one location, for us to … (2 comments)
