cleveland neighborhoods: History Meets the 21st Century in Downtown Cleveland's Historic Gateway Community - 07/31/08 09:23 PM
Cleveland is divided up into approximately 36 neighborhoods and I think most are aligned with their own community development corporation (CDC). Last time I explored Detroit Shoreway; now we head Downtown to Historic Gateway. This is one of my favorite areas. The variety of things to do will blow your mind!!! And like the National statistics, more people are moving into downtown areas to take advantage of car-free, transit oriented development (TOD) living, and all the amenities surrounding the housing. Did you know that one of the first ever shopping malls is in this neighborhood? The Arcade is a magnificent beauty

cleveland neighborhoods: A Walk Down Memory Lane .....My Childhood Domain is More Than Just a Bunch of Foreclosure Statistics - 10/03/07 07:37 PM
Today I stopped at E. 71st and Harvard to buy gas. I could not pass it up, Gas USA was selling it for $2.54/gallon (and who would have ever thought that would be a bargain). While there, I snapped a photo of the diner at the corner. My Aunt Ann used to hold court there, serving the hungry factory workers on the way to begin their days (and occasionally a niece on her way to junior high). It's now called the Harvard Inn. I have no clue what it was called in the old days lol. A lady named Hattie beckoned me over to her car

cleveland neighborhoods: Cleveland Housing News: The Statler Arms: An Elegant Apartment Building With a Rich History - 07/08/07 01:07 PM
I have a terrific client -the one I mentioned here, we met in person yesterday instead of just being email pen pals and began our search for his apartment. This led to an interesting hour at the Statler Arms Apartments. I got there early and proceeded to walk the building. It was converted from an office building to apartments and in 2002 the first residents moved in. Because it used to be a hotel (more on that later in this post), this residence has unique features. The first floor/lobby still looks and functions in a way a hotel might operate: a

cleveland neighborhoods: Tax Incentives: When Does Their Use Fall Into the Laws of Diminishing Returns - 02/03/07 05:21 PM
From what I have read, most of the 50 States offer some form of tax incentive to build. Some do it to encourage farmers to get into the 'clean energy' business with solar power. Some do it to encourage building in areas the city would like to see revitalized. Some do it to keep up the properties on their main streets. Cleveland got into the tax abatement issue in 1991 when The City authorized a Tax Abatement Program. That authority is coming up for discussion because in June of 2007 that autority runs out....City Council has been holding hearings to see

cleveland neighborhoods: An Aggressive Plan for Cleveland Announced Today By Mayor Jackson - 01/22/07 11:58 PM
Hot off the press, Mayor Frank Jackson announced today the City's new Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) that encompasses a mission and a strategy for the next five years. There is an emphasis on economic development, especially along Cleveland's Lakefront A few weeks ago, the City, in conjunction with the Cudell Development Corp., imploded an old factory and this new CIP Plan talks about bringing business to that space as well. There is an emphasis on high tech development, infrastructure and neighborhoods. What I liked most is that for the first time, all of this information, as it progresses through to completion,

cleveland neighborhoods: What Came First, The Chicken or the Egg? - 01/04/07 06:13 PM
Hey All You Don Quixote Home Builders....Were you the chickens or the eggs? Did neighborhoods start to get revitalized before you built new construction homes or condos? Or did you go into the neighborhoods and lead the way? To a large extent, a lot of Home Builders seem like they enjoy a good challenge, playing the odds. What made home builders decide to go into urban areas and take a chance and revitalize a neighborhood? Americans have always been drawn to pick up and move farther out, claim a stake and put up a white picket fence, So it seems less risky to

cleveland neighborhoods: Ralphie's Christmas Story House is In Cleveland, Come See It! - 12/22/06 06:00 PM
Everyone is in a festive mood, what with Hanukkah upon us and Christmas approaching. What better time than now to do a fun post about Cleveland's Hollywood connection. Did you know that a lot of movies were filmed here? That we have a vibrant independent film community? And that (drum roll) the Christmas Story House is now a museum in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood? Let's start with The Christmas Story movie. The Christmas Story movie came out in 1983 - I saw it in the theatre. Who knew it was going to become the cult classic it is, now featured every year

cleveland neighborhoods: 55% Can't Be Wrong: Bellaire Puritas is A Great Place to Live - 11/24/06 05:29 PM
Cleveland's West Side is home to the Longmead Puritas Neighborhood, also known as Bellaire Puritas. It makes up almost a quarter of Cleveland's economic base. It has an exciting future ahead of it for several reasons: it's close proximity to NASA and Hopkins International Airport; it's already existing rail and commuter rail lines; and it's fabulous newly constructed and 'to be constructed' public schools. And the neighborhood's vibrant shopping areas enhance it's live ability even more. First a bit of history: The area started out as a 'railroad town' so to speak, but became a hub of industry. Most of the areas

cleveland neighborhoods: Don't Believe The Hype: Buy a Home Now - 10/10/06 11:14 AM
That is what I want to shout from the rafters with a bull horn. I'm sure we all do. As a Realtor, it is my job to be able to separate out the myth from the truth. I want a marketing piece that speaks to this issue. To do that, I'm looking at three things: 1. Mortgage Rates Today vs. Mortgage Rates a Year Ago 2. Home Sale Prices Today vs. Home Sale Prices a Year Ago. 3. How Many Buyers Are There and Who Are They? I focused on 3BR 1Bath Homes in Lakewood (an inner ring suburb of Cleveland) and
