north carolina: E? I? N? P? T? - Which one are you? - 07/22/09 07:32 PM
OK - I admit it.  I am a Stumbler.  I love to Stumble.  You know ... the Stumble Upon add-on that is available in the Firefox browser.  It's a wealth of information and ideas.  If you don't have it ... you should get it.  You will be amazed.
In this evening's stumbling I came across a test.  Well, not really a test ... more of an independent evaluation.  Your answers and observations will help you discover the true you.  But you have to be honest in your answers in order for it to be effective.
I took the test.  All the … (10 comments)

north carolina: PUT ME IN, COACH! :::: Positive Ability or Posability? Watch, listen and remember ... - 07/18/09 08:01 AM
A friend sent me this video in email this morning.  I'm not sure what she's trying to say ...  hahahaha
I remember, as a kid, when I would whine or complain about being bored my Dad would always say, "Put me in, Coach!"  And I always wondered what the heck he meant.  When I got to be about 15 he told me ... "When you can't think of anything to do on your own, it's time to ask the coach to put you in the game."
Well, I'm in.  All the way.  100%!
This video is about an amazing woman of … (11 comments)

north carolina: PowWow ::: North Carolina State University - 04/03/09 04:06 PM
I received an email from a friend advising me of a wonderful event that is happening this weekend - tomorrow actually - at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Jamie Oxendine of the Black Swamp Intertribal Foundation has been asked to be the Master of Ceremonies for the event.  Jamie is of Lumbee ancestry and very knowledgeable in Native American history.
There's a PowWow taking place!
It's at the Carmichael Gymnasium at North Carolina State University and is hosted by the Office of Native American Student Affairs.
If you have never attended one of these gatherings I strongly … (6 comments)

north carolina: A sign of the times - Or a testament to history? - 01/20/09 10:45 PM
Today I had to run to the market for a few things.  A normally uneventful exercise, to be sure.
As I was standing in the checkout line I was eaves-dropping (yes - I admit it!) on an elderly gentleman (I'm estimating somewhere around 90) was talking loudly to the cashier.  They were, as you would expect, discussing the inauguration.
The cashier made some remark about this being a history making day, and the elderly man replied:
"Yep.  And I sure hope that little colored boy can do what he said he is going to do.  I never thought I would live … (11 comments)

north carolina: It's Snowin' in the Pines in North Carolina - and the Junipers too! - 01/20/09 09:54 AM
Well, we are having some snow.  By comparison to other places I've lived this is not a major snowfall, but for this area it is, apparently, significant.
While sittiing at my desk I can look out over the deck and watch the birds that are targeting a suet block.  One of the advanages of a home office in the country.
As I looked up to gather my thoughts I caught sight of "my friend" the cardinal.  Being as North Carolina is the "Cardinal State" it only seemed appropriate to capture his bright colors against the green of the juniper and the … (13 comments)

north carolina: Rain and Random Thoughts ... What's it all about ... - 11/30/08 09:07 AM
Looking out at the rain … wondering … It’s muddy, the sky is gray, the ground is soggy, we can’t BBQ, not pouring – but steady rain.
Not pouring ---- but steady rain.
Is this my cue?
Is this that subliminal message that He holds for me? Is it? I wonder.
Let’s see now … am I supposed to learn …
The rain is meant to make me grow  The gray skies are to keep me humble  No BBQ = can’t have everything all the time  No matter what the weather, life goes on  Steady rain = my cue to maintain … (13 comments)

north carolina: GEMS OF ALAMANCE COUNTY: Part 2 - Cedarock Park and Historical Farm - 11/13/08 11:31 AM
My poor little brain is on overload!  This area is so rich in places of interest and historical events that it makes it hard to focus on just one place or thing!  Yikes!
While driving one of the backroads coming home from Burlington I saw a sign that read "Cedarock Park."  OK - so I had to go see what Cedarock Park was.
And I'm SO glad I did!
This park is lovingly known as the "crown jewel of the Alamance Parks and Recreation Department."  After walking the grounds a bit I can see why.  It's absolutely gorgeous.
The park is … (4 comments)
