This is a traditional style Sailors Valentine that I made for my husband office. I may enter it in the Sanibel Island , Florida Shell Show this March. I entered for a few years and have not been able to go for several years now.

Sailors made or bought this type of Art Work while on sailing trips long ago. The modern art pieces are amazing.

Pumkins, Pumkins and More Pumkins!

I was delighted to come across this yard full of pumpkins in Orem, Utah.

I took some photos and then of course I had to buy a few. Some of them had warts on the outside which added some extra personality.

The children were drawn immediatley to the unusual warted variety.

All that orange was irresistable.

The 36 Hour Day If you are caring for aging parents (particularly with demensia) than this book will give you some greatly neede insight. Not only into their feelings but your own. I can see it will be a reference book as time goes by. Also reassures you on some of the choices you are making. Sometimes as I am reading it answers just the question that I have that day.

Be sure to get the 4th Edition for the most recent reference information.

Perseid Is Here Again!

I enjoy watching the Perseid Meteor shower every August in the Vernal, Utah Sky. This year the best time is between 2-3 am August 12 MST. Just lay outside and watching the sky as the lights pass by above.

Sometime we go up on the mountain to watch away from the city lights. A much brighter show. It is seen for a few nights before and after the prime time so take a look.

My Son's birthday is August 12! and I like to think it is a show in honor of him.

Fishing for Fun @ the 2009 Uintah County Fair

It is time again for the annual Uintah County fair in Vernal Utah. This year the fair will provide lots of fun starting Saturday August 8, and ending Saturday August 15, 2009. The theme is "Fishing for Fun" and if you are close to Vernal that week, stopping by and checking out what the fair has to offer would be a sure bet for a good time!

Some of the activities the fair is boasting this year are a magic show, food eating contest, city of fun carnival, baby contest, demolition derby, lego building and cracker stacking contest, farm exhibits, candy drop, and much more!

Come try your hand at eating a ten pound hamburger, catching some goodies, pulling the tug-o-war, or just enjoy the great atmosphere and a show. Not matter what, you will be sure to "catch" a good time, and some fun memories, at this years Uintah County Fair.

Double Rainbow! The Best....

Recently heading toward Vernal I could not pass up snapping a few shots of this incredible double and full rainbow! It was the most brilliant rainbow I have ever seen in my entire life. The dark sky was an excellent backdrop....Other drivers were by the road with their cameras taking memories of the rainbow.

I always believed growing up in Billings, Montana was a wonderful thing. We owned our first home when I was starting grade school.

We had great fun at that House. The cement pads were handy for roller skating and skate boarding. I remember being able to roller skate in the basement before it was finished. We had the old fashioned key type of roller skates that you had to make fit over your shoes.

My Dad always said we were to put our roller skates away or he would take them away. I forgot one time and my skates disappearded. I did not dare mention that fact as I knew I had goofed. I went several weeks before finding them under a turned over and upside down bushel basket off to the side of the back door step. I did learn a lesson because it was hard to go without the skates and not say a word. I sure was glad to be back with my wheels,lesson learned.!

Petrified Wood Utah

We keep searching for Petrified Wood in Utah and are finding many various colors and kinds. We have even found some Palm Wood.

This batch is headed for the tumbler. We have also been grinding and polishing some of them. They make beautiful cabs for pendants etc after using a slab saw, trim saw and grinding and polishing.

I have a few pieces to found in florida and have been looking the internet for info. I have read the book Pure SeaGlass. That is a great resource.

Tne New Credit Score FICO 08

There will be a new revised FICO formula, where your credit card balances will matter more and little missteps will be less important. The information on the new FICO scoring can be found in an MSN Money article by Liz Pullam Weston

TransUnion will be offering the new score to lenders in late January, Equifax in the spring, according to Craig Watts, a Fair Isaac spokesman and experian has not stated when it will offer the score.

Fair Isaac says the new score will better a better predictor of defaults than the classic FICO.

The dropping of a credit line amount may send your scores downward even if there is no balance.

If you have only a few open, active accounts, more credit card issuers are closing unused, unprofitable accounts, which raises the chance of a lower score.

Some beneficial area are that unpaid debts of $100 or less will be ignored, less punishment for setbacks such as a charge-off or repossession, if the other active accounts are in good standing and authorized credit lines will not be dropped.

This article had facts that were worth remembering. As realtors we need to keep up on the information that affects our clients and ourselves.

Getting Fit For The New Year

I have written about the New Recreation Center in Vernal, Utah and I am becoming a more frequent visitor. Water Aerobic in the evening are a great addition to my heathier lifestyle resolution.

Market In Vernal, Utah Up, Up and Still Up!

The Vernal Utah Market has gone up and up and is staying up. The following chart shows the numbers from the MLS for the months up to October of each year shown.

There are many first time home buyers and the lower priced homes are selling quickly. The increase in foreclosures is benefiting the buyers that are willing to do a little work and increase the value.

New Energy Development Includes Utah

On October 22, 2008 a plan was announced to include over 190 million acres of Federal land in 12 Western States including Utah available for development of geothermal energy resources, This initiative could increase electric generation capacity from geothermal resources more than ten times.

90 percent fo our nations geothermal resources are found on Federal lands and the clean energy is needed for our homes and businesses.

The total eventual supply will be enough to power more than 12 million homes.

Geothermal leasing revenues and royalties are allocated with 50 percent going to the State, 25 percent to the county and 25 percent to the Geothermal Royalty Fund of the Bureau of Land Management for further geothermal planning.

Some lands are closed to geothermal leasing and will remain so. One example is Yellowstone National Park

The final version of a plan will be in the Federal Register on Friday, October 24, 2008 and available at

There are 29 geothermal power plants currently operating on Bureau of Land Management lands in California, Nevada and Utah. The generating capacity is enough to supply the needs for 1.2 million homes.

There are some great ideas here that would in some way help us. I am always amazed at the things that the cell phones can do. I am continually learning.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave
emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency
tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST
Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find
Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an
Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112
can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy
someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys
In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on
their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot
>From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock
button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will
unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no
object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has
the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

THIRD
Hidden Battery Power Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the
keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument
will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you
charge your cell phone next time.

FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following
Digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the
screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it
somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider
and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset
so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally
useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know

that whoever stole it can't u se/sell it either. If everybody does this, there

would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Are you running yet? We are in the large crowd and there are those in the crowd among us (it only takes one) that have yelled FIRE!

I believe the media has been yelling fire long before there was smoke and now they have something to really talk about. If we had just turned around and said "What Are You Talking About?!!!" Instead of many of us running...we would not be burning up now.

Stop !!and evaluate if YOU are really on FIRE! or just take a deep breathe on we will all be fine.!

Red Creek Garnet

Last weekends adventure was looking for Garnets up near the Red Creek by Browns Park, Utah. We traveled a couple hours to get there.

As soon as we started to head out from the car to start searching one of the guys in our group looked down and there at the beginning was a beauty of a Garnet. It was the find of the day! We found some wonderful smaller Garnets and took some home to uncover that are still in their matrix or surrounding material.

We hope to get up there again this season before the cold weather makes it too difficult.

Fall In The Uintah Mountains

We took a short afternoon trip North of Vernal, Utah last week to enjoy the fall colors and were not disappointed. I love the light thru the leaves and especially the orange and red hues.

The contrast against the dark evergreen trees brought out the colors.

This area is on one of the Scenic Byway Routes.

I hope you are enjoying the beauty of the change of seasons where your are. Take a drive and get away from the hassles.

Still Growing and Selling

Vernal, Utah is growing and experiencing a good market. Buyers are coming in and calling to find homes.

We have the energy business here and all the reports I read speak of nothing but progress and expansion plans.

We have new construction for business' and the new college campus taking shape. Everything is busy and I am optimistic.

If we can keep the loans coming for our good buyers and enough affordable houses for them to choose from we will be doing great.

Colton Draw Guard Station

We made a visit to the Colton Draw Guard Station in the Ashley National Forest where the house is rented out to vacationers. It has not been used as a Guard Station for a long time. It is north of Vernal on our beautiful mountains.

It is a nice house with running hot water, toilet, stove and beds. We had a wonderful time. It was a fun adventure and I am we will do it again.sure
