Mike's Alaskan trip part 7 - 06/25/09 04:30 PM
I wanted to continue my Alaska posts and have been doing them in order of our trip but chose to share this picture with you now.
This is a picture of of me in front of the Alaskan oil pipeline just north of Fairbanks. There is also a sign there in front of the pipeline.
This pipeline runs from the oil fields on the northern coast of alaska(Prudhoe Bay) down to the southern coast to Valdez,Alaska.
I believe America gets 25% of its oil from this pipeline. I am going to add the links here to all the other posts I did … (2 comments)

Just returned from mission/youth/vacation bible school trip to Alabama - 06/24/09 11:10 AM
My wife, two daughters and myself just went to Fort Payne, Alabama with our church youth group. We carried all the props, materials, etc. and hosted a vacation bible school at a church that just built a new auditorium.
The regular attendance is only about 100 so when 35 of us showed up we almost filled the auditorum. The response from the community was great with lots of new kids coming to learn about Jesus. Our kids went door knocking and many they met came and brought their kids or allowed us to pick them up in the church bus.

Interview with Dyersburg,Tn banker about economy! - 06/19/09 12:42 PM
Yesterday I had the opportunity to interview David Hayes who is the president of Security Bank in Dyersburg,Tennessee.
I sent David a list of questions some time ago and had the opportunity yesterday to sit down with him for lunch and a discussion about our local and national economy.
In my opinion, David is one of the brightest minds in West Tennessee and a great member of our community!
If you want to read the entire interview, please click into my Dyersburg Real Estate blog. David was pretty insightful with his take on the economy and what it will take to … (6 comments)

Are you too busy to participate on Activerain? - 06/19/09 10:53 AM
Up until my recent vacation to Alaska 3 weeks ago, I spent a lot of time on Activerain.
After returning from a 2 weeks vacation, I cannot get caught up. Our market here in Dyersburg is picking up a little but most of my time is spent now with rentals. Many who are moving into the area for jobs either cannot sell their house, have lost their house or have bad credit.
I suspect the current rental demand will continue for some time to come and hopefully we will see some life in the resale market soon.
I still have a … (12 comments)

Mike's Alaskan trip part 6 - 06/08/09 10:56 AM
Our final destination for our ship was Whittier,Alaska. Down below you will see a map of Alaska, a picture of our ship(Island Princess), some pictures taken from the train including several of Mt.McKinley.One of the pictures of Mt McKinley was taken from Talkeetna,Alaska(30 miles from the mountain).

I also took a picture of sign welcoming us to Wasilla(home of Sarah Palin). I can see why see does not want to move to the governor's mansion in Juneau. This appears to be a quaint little town.
We spent a lot of time each day on the train. Our first day … (5 comments)

Mike's Alaskan trip part 5 - 06/04/09 04:06 PM

After leaving Skagway we sailed to Glacier Bay National Park. All of this cruising so far was in the inside passage.Just above is a map of the inside passage.
Let me say of all the cruise destinations, Glacier Bay followed by College Fjord were my favorites. Down below you will find pictures and video I shot. In glacier Bay. The glacier that was closest to the ship is Margerie Glacier. I shot lots of video and pictures(pictures two and six) of this glacier because it was the one that was "calving" into the bay waters. I actually saw this happen … (2 comments)

Mike's Alaskan trip part 4 - 06/04/09 11:36 AM
After sailing from Juneau(capital of Alaska) we headed to Skagway,Alaska.
This is where we rode the White Pass and Yukon Railroad. This was built in 1898 during the Klondike gold rush. The tracks are more narrow than normal and some of the drop-offs very scary beside the train. We enjoyed the train very much and the history that went with it. the train departed Skagway and made its way to the Canadian border.
Here is a link to their site describing our adventure. I took several pictures while riding the train and those are down below. the actual town of Skagway … (4 comments)

Mike's Alaskan trip part 3 - 06/02/09 05:02 PM
After leaving Ketichikan we sailed to Juneau, Alaska. This is the capital of Alaska. We really enjoyed Juneau but did not get to see Sarah Palin. She was in town the day before. She has a governor's mansion in Juneau but she really does not stay there very much. This upsets many there in Alaska. I did travel through Sarah's town of Wasilla while on the train going north.
Juneau is also the home of the bridge to nowhere. Actually, Juneau is serviced by a very nice airport which is located on an island across the waterway from the city of … (3 comments)

Mike's Alaskan trip part 2 - 06/02/09 12:11 PM
Our first stop from Vancouver,B.C was Ketichikan,Alaska. Below you will see some pictures as we approached Alaska. I also shot a couple of flip videos while approaching Ketichikan and departing there as well. I will post them on this post as soon as I get them published.
I did not take many pictures or any video while in Ketichikan as it was constantly raining. We spent most of our time shopping but did take one excursion to the rain forest. that trip was a disappointment as we did not see any critters running around and did visit a saw mill that … (1 comments)
